I don't know IG, but IMO the toughest climb in there is PA so I was surprised to hear you call it flat!
Gotta get back in there soon...

+1 on Wabash for the sprints. Quiet street. Separated lanes for the return trip and a generally bike-friendly neighbourhood.

i like doing the high park loop when i don't have much time. there are a couple nice switchbacks off north of the queensway that make it a nice workout too. i'll map out my route for you if you want - it's about 15km a loop...

3 posts in a row! wabash street would be shorter than you guys were used to at the Ex but it could work. the only problem i could see is if you have the finish line on the east end there is a blind corner there (albeit it becomes a one way street southbound) and if the finish line is on the west end it's near a three way stop. i'm sure it could be worked around though. plus there's a really cool abandoned warehouse on right next to it that we should explore and take pictures of when we're in there. i've always wanted to do that...

Anyone remember an anime featuring a pirate ship in space?

I believe that one is called 'Albator'. That's the name of the Space Pirate Captain guy I'm figuring. I only ever saw that one in French on CBLFT out of T.O. It mentioned something about 'Le corsair d'espace...' in the theme song.

There. Now you can stop wondering. ;)

Anyone want a 56 miele frame dual colour? Dan said it is free to anyone... the only condition is that is may fall apart, you have to sign off on it.

32f Hopefully you saw Toby and Pinball at the same time. cuteness to the max!

My 5'10" friend has assigned me to keep an eye out for something decent for him, how likely is the bike to fall apart? He has a pretty good dental plan ;)

I think that warehouse now has big gates up around it as it is going to be developed soon. The little one to the west of that big one is now part of the park, I believe it has washrooms and change-rooms in it for the kids' teams. When I was a kid, that entire park was one massive massive TTC garage for their buses and electric buses. If anyone has ever driven along Sorauren, you know how tight a street it is. Imagine when TTC buses would fly up it....it was nuts.

Pyze, 15T 3/32" D-A ordered and on the way (check in on Friday).

<shot in the dark>
I need a 13" mountain bike frame or complete bike. It would be for Meghan at Cycle Therapy. So far this season she's been pulling a John Tomac on her Surly LHT but that's not exactly ideal for her. A 15" frame would be too big (she's 5'2") and she's pretty much set on riding steel. If anyone out there has something, or has a line on something, please get in touch. Right now she's pretty much given up riding offroad but would love to get back out there.

PS. I also got some Surly Dingle Cogs in (17/19 and 17/21). Somebody do it. Come on, it'll be awesome.

What's chainline like on those things? If I have a straight setup using the inner ring of my crank right now, would dinglification be as straightforward as adding the cog and outer chainring?

I'd like to see this loop if you have a chance.

Also: brakeless with no clips / straps and no clipless setup as far as I can tell. I'm seeing more and more of this in the city - I think it's time to launch a fixed gear public education campaign.

+1 that stuff I've seen a bunch of times on Queen W, too - frightening in all honesty.

If you're serious about this I'd help out. As much as I like the look of no brakes, unless you've got a bike for polo or are always in a park I think that brakes needs to be on a bike even if it's just for emergencies.

Yup. I just put on a front brake in April because of these guys----they freak me out and I've nearly been run over as a pedestrian on two occasions by guys running fixed but having no idea how to ride.

There are also tons of SS bikes with only a front brake, which is suicidal to me.

I don't want to sound like an old man but these guys are really giving cyclists a bad name (or worse, depending on your point of view).

Thanks for the cog update.

Dirt drops for Tomacing it:thumb:. Thats if she has barcons and cantis already. End of my help here.

edit: I think Cyclepath has some small frames fairly cheap, when I go for my walk with Carson I'll take a peek.

yeah, don't like that at all. i think an education campaign would be effective if you could convince these guys just how cool it is to ride with a front brake or you feet secured. i think the front brake-only-freewheel irks me more (even if it's less dangerous) because it's trying to look like a fixed gear.

brainstorm: get one of the boutiques on queen w to start selling clips/straps with skate shoes/sneakers as a "fixed gear package". a bit hipsterific I know, but it may solve a problem...

jeremywhitehorn 05-29-08 09:16 AM

how much are the dingles, mike?

kylehutton 05-29-08 09:17 AM

so this brooks flyer champion that i got yesterday.... so comfy!
its amazing how much road noise (especially riding an aluminum frame) that the springs absorb

downside is its noticeably heavier.

jeremywhitehorn 05-29-08 09:18 AM

i broke a pint glass into a thousand shards and dropped it (and it's beer contents) all over my keyboard yesterday now some of the keys stick and it smells like a brewery in here...

hey - i just bought one last week too. i like how the springs are stiff enough to just absorb some bumps as you say but not won't bounce when you don't want it to. where did you pick it up?

it was on craigslist used, just cheap enough to be an easy impulse buy.

totally inspired by the photos of yours.

going to try to build a bike around this saddle, and the 22"x15"x9" wald basket i have.

Been there, suggested that - they're too wide for her, unfortunately. Thanks for asking around.

I love italian bikes

forget the expensive bianchis or any of the other expensive bikes. I just loved the beaters that are kicking around, 3 gear (what i want) the brakes pull on the rim, so no cables, just bars and hinges... they are soo amazing. I dont know why, but i love the old beat up oldskool bikes here. But mainly i love the bar/brake combos.

SO today i get a call from my agent in Toronto (you have no idea how weird it is to say "my agent") saying happy birthday, and then he says "i love your blog"... now my blog will end up on there website lol (must keep it PG)

Im trying to get my bike sent over to me here in milan. but i need a couple things, i was wondering if i could get someone at a bike shop help me out... im looking for a bike box (the cardboard one), some pedals with cages+straps (i dont know **** about them) and a 45 tooth chain ring (130 bcd, and not too expensive)... My parents want me to find a store that has all this **** in stock so they can go and buy+pick it up in one go. any help would be amazing. I'll bring you an Italian beer if you can help me out.

I can do all that, but the 130bcd ring I have is a 46t. If that works, we are at 106 harbord.
