amazing, popo kicking ass (and not mine)
TJ, if you haven't been to milan.... *starts humming "you aint seen nothing yet* have fun out there, and remember, to cross streets you make eye contact with the drivers, and walk, they will slow just enough for you :P |
I remember always being a little 'scared' of Igor's shop, everytime I'd ride by the place gave me the creps. I was driving back home from the Cadillac Lounge one night around 3 and saw a truck with at least 100 bikes in the back right outside the store. I wasn't sure if they were coming or going, but I figured it wasn't a normal business deal at that time of the night

I saw Igor leave a junk dealer up in the north end of the city with a truck full of bikes, so maybe not all of his inventory is stolen. If you know how to fix up a bike, some of those old clunky Canadian Tire bikes that are given to scrap-metal yards can be pretty profitable and they are not stolen.

Regarding the Tour, holy-effing-**** (+HAHA!)
Regarding Igor, it's about damn time. |

Perhaps you should speak to the officers working the case. It could very well be that Igor has connections and dealings in other cities that may be overlooked without a bit of help. I suspect the theft rate in the city may drop substantially in the coming weeks, at least until the slack is picked up by associates not currently under police scrutiny.
it's cool that they are targeting people who resell those stolen bikes, but i'm sure they'll always be able to find a buyer |
The fact that the fuzz were at *that* particular street corner bodes well for Igor getting more than a wrist slap. However, I expect that's what he'll get, unfortunately.
|
the news about igor made my day. im hoping he gets hit a little harder than the slap on the wrist. i imagine that building possesses quite a few treasures that have been reported stolen.
|
|
he needs a slap on the wrist with a meat cleaver :D
i love the misfit. And the guy who kept riding and ignored me and my buddy, when we asked for a pump (which was on your BAG) i hope you hit a low branch at full speed. if i see you again, i'll give you my pump, in your spokes. My riding partner had to walk out because we had a broken pump, and a bunch of people just rode by(only one guy had a pump though). nothing like the love from fellow riders. |

I wonder if Igor has been arrested before? If the allegations in the article can be proven in the courts, he will be going away for awhile I would think.
The most surprising thing to me about that article is that he only paid 85K for that building. It shows how much Queen West has changed. |
sounds like an awesome roommate, until 1/3rd of the way down the page

I rode by Igor's and there was a bike cop out front so I stopped to ask him what was to be done if I suspected my stolen bike was in there. He said that the best course of action is to wait and, if I hadn't already done so, report the bike stolen. He wasn't sure if the contents would be seized but he was inclined to think that they would be. That could be pie in the sky but, if you have a serial number, you might get your bike back.

Anyone know a good place to get a 19 or 20 freewheel? I am running fixed now but i have a flip/flop hub and i might as well use it.

What's unfortunate is the team is out, so the Cobra is out. He was riding well for a 24 year old.

Together again at last!
Can't wait to go for a ride when I sober up tomorrow. I'll have to recheck every bolt and the chain tension first. http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d5...6/DSC00028.jpg |
Needs a front rack.
PS. OMFG!!! |
Speaking of OMFG, am I the only one who's seen a shot of Dan(halen)'s new bike?! Ya right!

Actually he will be on something similar by the weekend!
Anyone riding tonight? |
In my mind, "Ya right!" was a subtle and deft nod to this: http://youtube.com/watch?v=WyH0qTF9CjY ... which I will now blatently post so that everyone gets a chance to enjoy the clip.

You're out of order!

Well, thought I'd ask you guys - what with your Cervelos and Wiliers - about a bike for this winter. I'll be using it to take the same commute up to Humber that shapelike currently does, right up until December. I'm currently doing that same commute on my Capo and CAAD9, but neither will cut it come foul weather this winter. I've been thinking about a cross bike, but I'm not sure if there's a better choice out there. Here's a short list of what I've researched:
-Jamis Aurora Elite - good frame, decent 'train, crap wheels, & takes fenders -Jamis Nova Pro - frame is 7005 with carbon stays. 'train isn't as good as the Aurora. Takes fenders -Devinci Tosca SL2 - nice, but waaay over-priced -Kona JTS - all'round nice bike. good price. Unsure if it will take fenders -Steelwool Sweet City SS - nice bike, good price, but unsure of max tire clearance w/fenders -Cannondale 'cross - another c'dale? -Specialized Tricross SS - mad-max option. Like the SS/FG option in the winter. Unsure of decent shops which sell Specialized (Cycle Solutions?). I'm probably overlooking a ton of brands, but the basic criteria seem to be: 130mm spacing Fender capability w/clearance for cross-style tires Under $1500 |

I imagine they'll be going through his inventory rather thoroughly for some time to come, in order to hit him with as many charges as possible.
I had been having trouble with my Park lockring tool wanting to cam out of engagement and do damage to the hard to get, proprietary Mavic lockring. I ordered a set of Hozan lockring pliers on Monday and picked them up this morning. Man, do they work well! Highly recommended, but pricey ($60). Painless. |

Yeah if you think that's awesome, wait till you see the stein lockring wrench. It's baically a vice grip but with the jaws modified to be 2 pins that fit lockrings.
Painless. BTW, the original paint scheme on my Wilier was a very busy Cofidis team pattern. Current metallic paint and buried decals was done by Noah at Velocolour. Superb. |
OK, it's official. After a short toot around the block with the Record crank on this bike, I have an FSA Carbon Pro 165mm track crank and BB (adjustable chainline) to give away (as in FREE and delivered in the city). They are used, but in good shape, with 49 and 46 tooth rings. Instead of first to speak for them, I will draw randomly, but fairly from all interested parties on Sunday at noon to give those who may be away a chance to log on and speak up.
|
Um. I'll take them. But I'm out of town for a while. I nominate Operator or Canice to get them for me if I win.
YES! |

He had his beer and classical music playing at the time wearing his "I'm Tired" t-shirt. We sat in Lawn chairs by the side of the street. His idea is that he is a 3rd party holder. Like a bank or a pawn shop. A person comes to him ... say a fiend with a freshly stolen bicycle. Igor will give the fiend enough money to put him on his way for his fix. If you happen to know that is your bicycle (within a couple days), Igor will sell you the bike for the same amount he purchased it for plus maybe some storage fees, overhead and interest. But his business plan is exactly the same as a bank or a pawn shop. The only difference are his clientele. A slight shadier then the most. He also is suppose to (he showed me his log book) keep record of all the bikes the come in and go out of his place for the police. Of course I think sometimes he might forget to write in a few. Anyway. Igor, came from some eastern European country a long time ago, his fundamental values are different than those in Canada. I'm not saying he's right in doing what he does. He just has a good way of justifying it. |
He told me he was a cop in Prague before the collapse of the Iron Curtain. He is a pretty tough character so perhaps there is a part of this that is true.
