best buy has the same for a little cheaper, i think a 4 pack of aaa is around $18-20

if yonge/dundas is included in "downtown hardcore" it has both stores

Ah thanks, i've just been informed that MEC carries some dura ace nimh's. I'll be heading over there soon.

somnambulant 01-12-08 05:25 PM

dura ace batteries, eh? "how to spot a bike nerd"

Danhalen 01-12-08 05:49 PM

Great day for riding out there today.

TRaffic Jammer 01-12-08 05:52 PM

just got in from a leetle blast through the core to ossington up to bloor and across to yogne for a yellow line rip and back home on queen... nice evening out there

exhibitx 01-12-08 07:10 PM

awesome typo

i don't think those dura-ace batteries are njs, forget about it

exhibitx 01-12-08 07:17 PM

wes: thanks for the tip on the sugio skullcap, i picked one up and rode with it a bit today, worked great, better than a regular winter cap because the ears dip down and fits under my helmet perfect

Helmets are quite subjective. First advice...stay away from "universal fit'....a proper individual sized helmet will be more comfortable and wont flop around on yer head. I like Giro and Bell helmets, lots of different styles and plenty of non-hideous ones under $100.

Get something that fits. I've found that helmets like giro atmos/specialized decibel fit really well compared to some of the lower end models but they aren't cheap. Hopefully your head fits into cheaper helmets than mine. :/

somnambulant 01-13-08 03:34 PM

yeah, to echo the previous comments: try on a bunch of different brands.. they all fit a little differently.

Hey wes, that helmet looked good on you today! What model Giro is it?

P.S. The Pneumo or Monza are much nicer helmets than the Eclipse...

jeremywhitehorn 01-13-08 04:16 PM

i've always bought one of the higher end bell helmets. but the fit can be finicky like it is with shoes, just try them on to see what suits you best. i find bell helmets are a little more round shaped than the giros, which tend to be more oval. now is a good time to buy a helmet as they all seem to be on sale. sweet pete's, bikes on wheels, curbside etc. have a good selection of helmets, and they all seem to be around half price at the moment.

I_bRAD 01-13-08 05:09 PM

Giro fits me much better than bell does. I had a pneumo, but the strap died and now I'm wearing an (very) old hammerhead until I can get an Ionos.

I do like the visor on the rainy days though

kylehutton 01-13-08 06:04 PM

i assumed that. never hurts to ask opinions.

were any of you the dude drafting me eastbound on college around 3:30 today?

it was quite windy and some dude tucked in behind me and kept going from side to side so i couldnt see him when i shoulder checked.

wouldnt have minded usually but it was windy enough that i could actually feel the drag when he jumped in the airstream.

If another person is drafting behind, you actually gain aero advantage - not the other way around.

Two Bianchi framesets for sale on CL. The Campione D'Italia looks rather nice, but too wee for me.

But even better, four Marinonis although the price may be a little much.

Either way, drafting without permission is poor form IMO.

if either of us were riding in the drops like a paceline there would have been an aero advantage, but i was riding the corners of my bullhorns, and he was on risers. The strong headwind and the upright position of him behind me created more of a drag when he was riding so close. If that makes any sense?

Even the pink one? ;)

kergin 01-13-08 08:30 PM

How close we talkin' here? I'll draft strangers if they're going fast enough, because I like the pace, but I'm a piece of crap, so...

That's all you. I don't care if someone drafts me, just don't cause an accident. I see a total of 0 cycling commuters on my usual route to work anyways.
