I think it's hilarious that he also admits to paying $2000-3000 in tickets every year. WTF?!

It's like he thinks he's doing his civic duty by racking up all those fines. Man.. I nearly lost my mind when I got *one* $35 ticket last year. Of course, that was also because I had just parked accross from Suspect Video on Markham, ran in, pick up a video off the shelf and paid for it (no line). I was in there for about 3 minutes, tops. :P

Somehow .... I hope and pray that Jacob Two Two is joking somewhat. I can understand about his frustration from the point of a cager BUT. As we've done this round and round, the bikers in any given city are a product of their environment and as such they adapt to their surroundings (we get our cues from the cars). Any crackdown should I think be a complete nazi crackdown on anything that touches the road. Ever follow a single car into downtown and for the fun of it count the number of bad lane changes, the yellow runs, rolling turns on reds, etc etc etc? I have and I was upto about 1500$ in fines and 10 demerits in a 6 km trip. Bikers are an indicator of how the cars rule the road. If the cagers are terrified and maddened by the fact we show zero regard for them, they only need to look at how they drive themselves and how they treat each other and us.....I wonder if Two Two has an email address.

I looked at the list of columnists @ the Post. Is it me or are they all white? Seems an odd cross section of our population. Just sayin'.

I love it when guys like this get going. So now cyclists are stealing roads from the poor, overworked motorists? That's rich. Gas tax alone does not pay for the massive infrastructure that cars require. Not even close. Anyone who pays tax, period, is paying for this huge, and IMO wasteful road network.

my suggestion would be to stop getting tickets. people, all he was doing was dropping his kids off at school, for the love of god someone think of the children! the children! my wife works as a teacher and tells me that traffic caused from parents dropping their kids off is a huge problem that causes major delays. how far does richler live from his kids' school i wonder. i know some of the richlers live in cabbagetown (long story) to unless the kids are being sent to UCC or something, here's an idea: walk your kids to school, genius!
i hate parking tickets too and i actually feel that the city it overly harsh on street parking but $3000? that guy must have money to flush down the toilet...

Its supply and demand... there is very little on-street parking left in toronto, so they can charge alot, and then also fine alot to keep the turnover quick. Its way way worse in Paris, where there are twice as many cars in half as many spaces; and you're paying in euros too. Its just another luxury tax on automobiles and is one of the few alternative ways cities have to raise money short of begging the provinces, setting up toll highways (not a bad idea but political suicide) or totally rearranging the property tax system. Cars are damaging to the enivironment, people and the physical fabric of the city and should be rightly gouged for it if they don't park where they are told.

i would agree that in a city that is more crowded that toronto and one that has a user-friendly mass transit system cars should be taxed/ticketed more frequently. i wish the TTC were a more usable system but obvioulsy more people wish to drive because of it. my problem is with the parking cops who seem overly strict, who seem to ticket cars even when parked legally (i have recieved several tickets this way), simply to make money. it's very inconsistent. perhaps the city should impose a yearly driving tax instead of hitting some folkd with tickets when they feel like it.

hmm.. with a 53 chainring, try a 20 or 21 cog. EAI makes up to 22.
and I'm guessing you'd need your cog in 3/32 to match your road chainring... unless you have a track ring.

As an everday user of the YRT/TTC, their problem is the operation is too efficient. There's no money left for anything. Service improvements <- laugh. Not to mention the majority of ticket collectors are jerks, especially on the TTC.
