Right now you are on a 63.0 inch gear. That is pretty light for the street. You have a choice. You can pick up a 19t cog, and use it with the 53t ring, which would give you 75.3 inches. An almost perfect street ratio imo. With the 42 ring you could go with a 15t cog and that would give you 75.6...also a really nice gear. Since you have both rings already I would go with the 53x19 set-up. More teeth equals longer lasting. When that finally wears out you can go with the other set-up and it will be roughly the same gear. Good luck and happy skidding.

Stinkin crappy server. I tried the long version....the server ate it. The readers digest version. 53x19=75.3 inches. Good street gear. 42x15=75.6 inches. Also good. 42x18=63.0 inches. Very light for the street. Some like em bigger. I typically start folks out as close to 75 as is practical. Try the 53x18. If it is too big go 1 tooth larger on the cog. K.

TRaffic Jammer 04-05-06 01:38 PM

just sent to Jacob Two Two:

Somehow .... I hope and pray that you are joking somewhat. I can understand about your frustration from the point of a driver BUT. The bikers in any given city are a product of their environment and as such they adapt to their surroundings (we get our cues from the cars). Any crackdown should I think be a complete nazi crackdown on anything that touches the road. Ever follow a single car into downtown and for the fun of it count the number of bad lane changes, the yellow runs, rolling turns on reds, etc etc etc? I have and I was upto about 1500$ in fines and 10 demerits in a 6 km trip. Bikers are an indicator of how the cars rule the road. If the cagers are terrified and maddened by the fact we show zero regard for them, they only need to look at how they drive themselves and how they treat each other and us....

As for freeloading....every tax payer pays for the roads AND supporting the auto industry here in Canada. I don't know the exact figure, but massive amounts of money have been handed to the manufacturers. All coming from a variety of taxes. It's a wee bit arrogant to assume driver pays the full tab for the roads because it simply isn't so. As a cyclist I pay the same taxes you do with the exception of fuel taxes and I need to generally fight for enough room to ride. The strange thing is that bikes have never EVER caused a road to wear out.

I would fight the kids being dropped off ticket. As for the rest of your 2-3K of tickets a year, I would recommend using a parking lot, as it sounds like it will end up being cheaper.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I wish I could make it out for this one....have fun guys.

TRaffic Jammer 04-05-06 02:44 PM

EyeFloater....two things....one: your hip feeling better? Two: does it look like someone has allready started building bumps there? A friend at work say pick up soccer and the occasional cricket go on there.

Sounds like a venue just A' Watin'
Though, I was kinda hoping the whole thing was derelict so we could build lanes on the interior of the track and make jumps and stuff for different skill levels, BUT if soccer and cricket do get played by other citizens I guess we should share.

edit No way to CV I've got my daughters Eco-quest presentation at her school to see. :) Gorsh I love them kids.

operator 04-05-06 08:52 PM

Well finally the server seems to be fixed. -- Spoke too soon.

sweep242 04-05-06 09:17 PM

Dose bike forums not know i need a fix like now, very small addiction nothing to worrie about. Maybe just a little tape over the refresh key.

Cheers

wasted weasel 04-05-06 09:54 PM

so 9:30 and where?.... I have the uncanny ability to mess up directions, I know where honest eds is... I'll just circle it. if you see a guy with blue lights on his helmet yell "tom"...

Ill Mitch 04-05-06 10:07 PM

I Have to work tomorrow night so I don't think I'll be able to make it to CV.

I'll be there if I can somehow get off early, but don't wait for me...

operator 04-05-06 10:14 PM

I'll come mess around ... will I get heckled if I come on a bike with gears.

Edit: where is honest eds.

1. Yep, I almost like my gangsta limp though. People get out of your way you you come at them w/ a scowl and a ****ed up leg. ;)

2. There's definitely bumps in the works. To give you a sense of scale, in the profile photo of the track that bench is about a foot high.

The best way to get to that place is DEFINITELY not the way I used (ie. down an on ramp, wrong-way on an off ramp, sketch styles on the shoulder of Bayview Ave.). If you head around the school at the S/W corner of the Bloor bridge, there's a massive staircase leading down right to the track.

veteran_youth 04-05-06 11:20 PM

Operator: you will get heckled for not knowing where Honest Ed's is.

"Zounds! Tis beyond comprehension that thou hast not an inkling of direction in thy skull, to be ignorant of the shining fortress of bargains unmatched, gaudiness unabashed and floors most uneven. I shall say a thousand prayers for thee tonight that the lord might grant thee some semblance of a brain by morning. Perhaps then thou might forgeth a path to the legendary Critical Vacuum. But until that time comes, jeers, Operator, JEERS! I do fear that suburban living has made thee soft."

So basically Honest Ed's is at the corner of Bathurst and Bloor. The parking lot is to the south of it.

I will likely be on a geared bike too, since my ENO is EFFED. So I had to get my heckling in while I could.

That was cool.

when i ride by there on the way to work every morning there is always a line of people waiting for the door crasher specials. how cheap can spaghetti be?

TRaffic Jammer 04-06-06 08:42 AM

You would be amazed my friend. For people on a budget that place is ....... I can't even find the word.
Even if just to look around you gotta check it out, there is reason it's world famous.

I will NOT be attending this evening, I gots family stuff. Have a great ride guys and girls.

Floater do you have that arm swing that says "Yo, I'm da OG Pimp!, don't mess."

oh, i've been several times. one of these days i swear i'm going to come home with one of those 10ft high statues from the old spaghetti factory that are for sale in the basement.

Shiznaz 04-06-06 08:55 AM

I live so close to honest eds and I hate it. Its the most soul-crushing eplilepsy-causing pennywise's playhouse and no matter what simple thing it is you are looking for it takes 30 minutes to find and you get lost in the clothing section by mistake.

cavit8 04-06-06 08:56 AM

I must pass on the vacuum as I am sick like dog :-p
