has anyone seen the new bike lockups at nathan phillips square?

racks that hold the bike vertically and lock both wheels and the frame.

weird, left knee hurts when i ride my misfit... anyone got any clues? i ride the same shoes on my fixed gear and there fine (so i guess not the cleats), and the seat height seems fine. Q factor maybe? someone said the q factor sometimes can affect your kknees

or am i missing something?

tends to be the top of the knee that hurts, like right above the knee caps.

awesome news aboot team snow man, congratz... tell me when the next race is and i'll play benchwarmer :D

Yes, my dad had something like that. It got me really good once and sent a nice fat drop of solder onto my socked foot. Didn't get the sock off in time - ow.

1. CSS 3 can't come to firefox fast enough. Not having wordwrap is bad enough, but when devs have been asking for it for 5 years, its time to get off 'yer ass.
2. I've created roadie scum.

Might want to try lowering your seat a bit. Could be leg length discrepancy.

P.S That new flashpoint t.v series... they were filming a scene right in our back alley. Pretty funny to be fixing bikes and hearing.... "action" in the background then the same scene repeated for over half an hour until they got it jussssssst right.

Lawl!

It depends on what you are planning on using it for. For the sake of flexibility, I would recommend getting one with temperature control. That way when working with small components you can get the temperature set lower so you don't burn electronic components. Then you can crank it up if need be as well. I don't think you have to spend a crazy amount of money to get this, probably less than $100. At that price point you will get a good quality tip as well. I have a fairly cheap soldering iron and it works for the things I typically use it for which is wiring guitars and speakers. However, in the future I plan on building a complete amplifier and at that point I think it would be worth it for me to upgrade to a temperature controlled iron. My two cents...

you're a good quality tip.

my record is on a KFC commercial when they made the actor do 53 takes of taking a bite out of a chicken burger and then saying "man, that is hot!" they wanted a different variation. 53 times!

Actually pain above the knee cap usually means you need to raise your seat. Try doing it a LITTLE bit, I mean like 2mm or so. Little changes can make a big difference. You can always move it again after you've tried the new position for a bit. If you make a huge change or too many changes at once it can be hard to get back to where you were if it makes it worse. If your seat is too high, usually you will feel pain/tightness in the back of your knee or even in your hamstring(s). Also, I know if my seat is too high, I feel like I cannot make a nice pedaling circle, it feels like my left knee is tracking wrong (or both knees if it is really too high).

Saddle setback is not to be ignored either. You said your other bike feels good? I would say measure the seat height as accurately as you can and measure the setback as well. Do this by hanging a plumbline from the nose of the saddle and measure the distance from the bottom of the plumbline to the center of the bb. A bit tedious, but then you can match the saddle position on your two bikes. Again it is a place to start if one feels better than the other.

If your cranks are different lengths, then the seat height probably will end up being different. Longer cranks means lower seat etc. If it doesn't feel "good" then it probably needs to be changed, again maybe only a little bit. Getting a really nice comfy powerful position definitely takes time and fiddling. It is a static thing too, there is not perfect set position that works forever. The key is knowing when to adjust, based on how it feels.

You know it.

Has anyone else seen the "bike smilies" and the fancy animated ones? These are new to me. And kind of funny:

A friend of mine was in that work safe commercial where the chef slips and drops the bioling water on herself. She said the stunt double had to go through an insane amount of retakes until she said she couldn't as she was really going to get hurt. Crazy.

A bunch of new stuff is coming in 3.1 ... http://www.css3.info/

Just this morning I'm taking an "independent study" (ie. didn't feel like going to Etobicoke) day and working on my portfolio site which will include some CSS3 fanciness.

Hey Dan, you guys having a BBQ or anything to celebrate Sastre? I heard on the radio today "Spanish rider wins Tour on a Canadian bike". I immediately started thinking of Sastre on a CCM.

jet sanchEz 07-28-08 10:47 AM

That Miele is so clean and fresh, nice.

I was wondering about that too, I think this is this the first time the TdF has been won on a Cervelo, right?

indeed. Lately it's usually won on a Trek (Armstrong and Contador)

strangely enough i also worked on that commercial. your friend is right, for a stunt we did a lot of takes. the director wanted to get a close up shot of the back of the girls head hitting the corner of the counter and she just couldn't get close enough (i don't blame her). the day after that we shot a guy getting blown up by an acetylene gas tank(notice dude in flames):

Wait, what do you do for a job? That seems like a good photo but I didn't know anyone worked as a stills photographer on shoots for commercials ...

I am no longer a Cervelo employee, as my seasonal contract expired a week and a half ago. I would imagine anything happening on this end may wait, as many of the full time employees are still on holiday after the company trip to France. I'm a big fan of Sastre and the Schlecks so this year was awesome. What a close race for so much of it.

Did anyone else see Jens Voigt's saddle break off of his seatpost on the last stage? That certainly made Cervelo look bad! I wonder if it was the saddle or the seatpost that failed? Over-tightened clamp maybe... I hope it wasn't the seatpost because his post was the proprietary Soloist Carbon seatpost that I will soon be riding myself!
