Slow & steady wins the race.

Woohoo ...tail wind in the snow...I was wiping my glasses like every 15 seconds this morning.

MattRennick 01-22-08 03:47 PM

I just took my winter tires off last week too! DOH!

Not a big fan of that new lugged Kona actually. It's still got a wacky paintjob and too many words. I'm not as against words on bikes as Rob but I do think a little goes a long way. This is more what I had in mind:

That's flat out wrong actually. The R & D department works full time on everything from rims being used to testing tolerances on competitor's frames. They were testing one of the new Trek Madones yesterday and today. The layup of each tube on each bike design is considered. Say what you want about the factories where they are made in China and the quality of the actual Carbon Fibre being used, but from a design standpoint it is not by accident. The new RS (the R3/SL hybrid with longer headtube and longer chainstays) production was pushed back from the original release date due to them wanting to tighten up some aerodynamic concerns. They are picky as hell about stuff. I trust their engineering. I just don't care enough to spend that much money.

That's news to me. I know Phil rides. I always assumed that Tom/Gerrard (he seems to go by both) does but have not heard anything either way.

What is 2113649 Ontario Inc? Seems that they're the folks doing the engineering and design at Cervelo these days. Is that in the liberty village office?

I think so yeah. Technically the engineering, assembly and customer service/sales departments are separate companies. R & D is done mostly in house, except for wind tunnel stuff and a few other things I would assume. I can literally walk a few feet over to the R & D department and watch them doing their thing.

Cyclo-core/Cyclo-zen is totally curb-stomping my ass. Time to go melt into a pool of useless on the couch!

Flimflam 01-22-08 09:04 PM

I just went for a spin on my street messing about on my FG (old Bianchi frame for now) skidding and such in the snow, amazing amount of fun though with platforms on, not something I'd ride for any sort of distance ;)

jeremywhitehorn 01-22-08 10:30 PM

i saw someone trackstanding at bathurst and front on my way home from work around 11:00 this evening. clad mostly in black, balaclava, helmet cover, black windbreaker etc. i wonder if it was any of you dudes. couldn't recognize you under the ninja getup.

jeremywhitehorn 01-22-08 10:31 PM

oh yeah, this is pretty funny stuff courtesy of the people at surly.

Hi guys im new here. I was hoping to get some info on where I could get a good deal on fixie bike.

I heard about this guy POLLY or paulie? has some kind of shop with stuff like that and that he's going out of bussiness, closing down etc.. So there should be lots of deals. (Yes!! quote napoleon dynamite)

Any body know when the sale is?? or how to contact him?

I want a fixie so bad I can taste it, yum!!

Gee I wonder if that guy likes crackers?

That Guerciotti is beautiful. I agree the Kona's paint is a little garrish, as is its use of chrome on the lugs; however, the craftsmanship is really, really nice. I saw one in person at Sweet Pete's, and the only thing which obviously blows on that bike is the crank. Too bad its $2500 bucks. For that kind of cash, you're better off trolling CL and eBay for some early 90s steel roadies and then throwing a modern group on them.

exhibitx 01-23-08 06:17 AM

the entire street in front of work is ice, i made it all the way down and then when i went to turn into our drive way my bike came out from under me

worst street, i don't think they ever plow it, they just let the trucks melt it and then it turns to ice and all the companies use the one sidewalk to dump their snow

Check Craigslist, it seems the fad of the fixie is over and people are unloading them.

somnambulant 01-23-08 08:23 AM

To dink in red Cavelier this morning: driving so close that it appears as though your car is inside the width of my handlebars and inches from my spinning pedals is NOT going to make me move over into the ice ruts so you can squeeze past the street car. Deal with it.

ps. does anyone have a link to a good 'how to make an ice-racing tire' page?

Polly has been going out of business every couple months it seems, so I don't know if it's real... I think he wants to relocate his shop because it's a terrible mess, but he keeps buying stuff, which adds to the mess.
You won't get awesome deals, he understandably wants to make some profit. You're better off buying a complete half-decent bike from CL and getting a rear wheel. Get a few tools and learn to "fix" the bike ;)

The website is http://www.velocolour.com/

Does anyone have any links or pictures of a modern era Somec Aluminum Track frame?

DrBenway 01-23-08 08:56 AM

hey nerds... i have to share.

The other day I had to go out to Panasonic to take a look at some gear for a project I'm working on. The pics were taken on an iPhone so the camera quality is what it is. But take a look at the picture quality on the screen. I can honestly say that is a true representation. Insane. And the show stopper was when the rep took three fully extended, full force punches to the middle of the screen. Our hearts stopped.

And to keep things topical, if you had one you could watch M.A.S.H. on it and feel like it's you making a lot of bad decisions. ;)
