I've been downloading skate vids. Anyone want to have a little screening? The "Lakai - Fully Flared" video that I posted the intro to (slo-mo + explosions) a few weeks back seems pretty amazing so far (watched the first 30' or so). I also downloaded a couple classics: "Girl - Yeah Right", "The DC Video" and I'm in the process of getting all 3 Mullen vs. Song videos. :)

Does anyone have any truing stand recommendations? I'm basically looking for the most affordable yet still halfway decent truing stand.

Well, I think Andrew was basically asking what purpose the tires would serve. I.e. standard studded tires for general use or tires solely dedicated to ice-racing. The latter would allow you to go a lot more hardcore with things as they wouldn't ever be used on anything but ice. A regular studded tire for general use would have to be set up to withstand riding on dry asphalt, etc.

Studs are generally meant for extra traction on trails and such. Ice racers are hardcore tires of death with like 800-1200 screws in them. Not for the faint of heart, My buddy cuts himself to ribbons every year.

A consumer studded tire would be virtually useless in an ice race..

Why is a track bike so much easier to use on rollers than a road bike? I ride the track bike for ages without any problems but I popped my Marinoni on there and I am all over the place and nearly kill myself two times. Weird.

How does the front tire position change in regards to the roller between the two bikes?
Can the roller be adjusted so that the road bike wheel/roller interaction is the same as the track bike's?

If the road bike is freewheel -- being "fixed" (i.e. on the track bike) may help with balance via even cadence / smoother spin. If it's a fixed gear road bike conversion -- maybe it has to do with geometry / wheelbase and where the front roller is positioned?

Hrm, good points guys. I think that the wheel base on the Marinoni is slightly longer than the GTB, so I have to adjust the front roller position slightly. I feel so dumb ;)

I do think that I have a lot more control riding the track bike, as I am sure all of us feel, I just wanted to see how much different it would be on the rollers to ride a road bike.

Keith posted a great graphic here somewhere as to proper wheel positioning on the front roller, If you've hit that sweet spot with your Tracker, then I can imagine the longer wheelbase would make it feel like you were being pulled around. As well if you turned the bars it would totally feel like you were going to go for a tumble.

The control seems better on the tighter bike at reasonable speeds, though I bet you wouldn't want to descend a mountain on a track geometry, it would feel full on squirrelly.

I think the idea is to have the front roller positioned directly under the hub.

The latter setup makes it MUCH easier to control the bike.
