Rode in from the east end today, never have I felt that uncomfortably cold - though once warmed up, only my toes/finger tips suffered - going down Kingston Rd. made my head /damn/ cold for a spell, I felt pretty ill at Coxwell/Dundas in fact, but that soon went away. Followed a messenger along Richmond for a couple blocks - big props to the guys out in this crap today - this mornings ride definitely struck me as out of my comfort zone.

I'll have to try and get a morning / evening routine going for stretching - some days, even only doing 40k I feel it in my legs, and I never got consistent with a routine. Thanks for all the tips guys.

I've never really been a competitive person, but I do want to run in some races this year. I plan on joining the Randonneur Ontario group for a few rides, for strengthening up and building stamina. Planning to race in Global Gutz and the CMWC events just to test my mettle. I'm under no illusions that I'm not so quick in the grand scheme of things, but as they say, riding against stronger/faster riders only makes you stronger/faster.

I want to get out and ride with you guys more. Hopefully the weather does turn around back upto 0C, if so, then I'll post up for a ride this weekend - I was thinking a loop around town and out to Port Credit and back just for some distance/change of scenery.

Boston - More than a feeling is an *awesome* track... I have a "Rock Anthems" CD with it on, and among others, so is Alice Coopers' Poison - more recent, but still a great song IMO :D I may or may not have been listening to some T'Pau yesterday too *cough* :p Oh yeah, and that version of Total Eclipse in Old School is awesome, I also really enjoy Will Ferrells' Dust in the Wind cover at Blues funeral. I'm a sucker for 70s rock.

For the record technically you are supposed to be/have been a messenger to race CMWC. Not that anyone will stop you.

He does carry an extremely valuable package in all conditions on a daily basis: his daughter :)

Anyone know anyone who rides bikes in Boston? I'm going to a conference in April. Still need to get to talking to your bro, Foo.

Does anyone (cam, wes) have a foot operated minitape transcription machine I could borrow? Apparently they are worth more than their weight in gold.

I'd say that is a pretty good deal. What does Racer Sportif sell them for in their store?

Yeah I checked into that, if need be I'll work a day at some place like Zap or something - but they (messmedia?) said I'd be cool (and it says on their site all are welcome). I'm not likely going to be anything near competitive, though I'm used to hauling weight/loads I'm just going to have fun and get myself immersed into all things bike.

That is a pretty good deal $340 + Shipping is way better than $699 + Dickheads

Not so much daily, but yeah - I haul her around when I have her over for visitation :) Living in the opposite side of the city to her Mum definitely forces 'training' rides that way though :D
I took her to pre-school this morning (in the east end), held her in one arm and rode my conversion, so she's ridden fixed technically now :p Not so safe, but sidewalk riding her was faster than her walking speed, and it was quite chilly.
I need a tag-a-long thing soon, as the trailer is fast becoming too small for her, but that opens up a lot of scary traffic/her grasping cycling problems in my mind.

Nah, even at the end price it was a good deal, but I wasn't sure and didn't want to end up buying something I'd later regret. I'm quite prone to buyer's remorse.

You don't love your daughter?

Must be the case or do you just prefer to disregard her personal welfare?

I'm sure she had on a helmet while you rode with her in your arms.

Flimflam 02-28-08 12:24 PM

Held feet first with skull dragging across the pavement, figured that was more efficient.

Oh, and cheers for that, - you should go buy yourself a choccy bar - I'm not personally into feeding trolls.

Just calling it the way it is.

When I see motorists driving without a car seat I call them out on it.

I love my kids enough that they were never in a car without the proper child seat or on a bike without a helmet.

Accidents happen, and as a parent it is my responsibilty to prevent unnecessary injuries.

Riding, especially fixed, with a child in your arms is deserving of a Darwin award.

The legal way yes. Not how you do it.

TRaffic Jammer 02-28-08 12:58 PM

You'd be amazed at what a tag-a-long can do for a little-ings balance pre-two wheeler. My nephew used to get ridden around on one for ages going back and forth to school and such. Once time for his own bike came, seriously, I held the bike, pushed and he was off. His balance had been perfectly trained by the Tag-a-long.

FF.. how old is your daughter? Will she fit a bike seat for the time being?

Nosir. The missus did all her interviews using my old minidisc recorder.

Gold * 2.

Also: I saw this funny mug at ideal a year or two ago and totally forgot what it said. I kept looking at the mug-shelf when I'd go there, but I never saw it again. Today it returned! Apparently someone took it home and then returned it..
