the miele is murdering my back. I have some fiddling to do, but I have a suspicion that long cannondale stem is the culprit. anyone have a short threadless stem, 5-10 degree drop? have random bits and bobs to trade, including a longer cannondale stem. and since im broke, any unused cross levers from fixed conversions can come too. I had so many bar positions on the fixed, i have to put brakes all over this **** like christmas ornaments to come near that freedom.

i think i may have an 80 and a 100. i'll take a look today.

oh god. i just realised.

ahha i didn't even think of that!

i also LOL'd at a guy who blared past me on a bike so badly maintained i could hear it from meters away and then used a SQUEAKY TOY to signal to a little kid ahead of him... only to pull off seconds later into a parking lot to put his bike in his car. :notamused:

the speed skaters aren't so bad because they generally travel in a straight, predictable line. it's the twits on a date and all showing off for each other spinning around without notice that i hate. it is a multi-use path after all.

freecycle 07-30-08 08:44 AM

^^ I just love the gooney costumes, they make you soooooooo fast on rollerblades, you can like, zooom.

Families of eighteen, skaters on a date, and pairs of canadiantirebikes that take up the entire MUP, and when you excuse yourself they get scared and clamp up and it takes forever to get by them. These are the people I buzz by millimeters every chance I get. Cuz I have anger issues sometimes.

+thanks for looking jeremywhitehorn

lol.. can't help but find that funny, knowing the madness on the MUPs :)

Sweet frame/wheelset Pyze, ETA on build?

Rob/Dan - I'm up for the donut, tell me when - am I allowed to ride my fixed? ;) j/k I need to get out on the roadie.

If a road caliper isn't releasing/opening back up properly - should I just take it apart and clean/rebuild or could it be something else? Could improper cable tension/length be a cause? My back brake is hosed on my roadbike in this way - still works, just doesn't release properly off the rim on one side after application and I want to get 'er fixed.

i wanted to draft off the bladers while riding my bike one time, yell something like "so when do we start going fast?" or "if you think those big wheels make you go fast, check out these puppies *then leave them for dead*"

or "where do you put your wallet? because those are skin tight and i cant.. oh thats just nasty"

Not the cable, Id say disassemble, clean and grease all pivot points. Then when you reinstall ensure the pads are even and tighten the brake on the frame very well. If you mess this part up youll have brake rub on one side. Should be fine, ive found and rebuilt the scummies crusties calipers ever. Those things are pretty much iinvincible. OO and while you do this, and the cables off, pull off most of the casing and lightly grease it, and make sure its not sticking anywhere. that or buy new cables, but i believe in fixing, not replacing :D

i hope that helps/makes sense.

and i want in on that loop! wheee!

edit: lol stuart

was looking for an opening to pass, I have tunnel vision at violently high speeds

speaking of spandex, do cycling shorts really keep your nether regions friction free on long rides? im thinking of swapping out my random boxer/brief selections for a set of those things.

im also considering wearing them under actual shorts, is this advisable? I dont want every woman who sees me in spandex swooning all over the MUP, its unsportsmanlike. ;)

Yes, they do help immensely on longer rides. A bit of chamois cream helps too. As for wearing them under shorts? Absolutely. I have a set of Sugoi shorts that are essentially bike shorts sewn into some normal outer shorts. I often wear bike shorts with a separate pair of Arc'Teryx climbing shorts over them to be able to carry some cash and do errands while looking somewhat normal.

cavit8 07-30-08 09:44 AM

If you keep downwind of them, they should be safe from swooning.

I have some chamois liners I got from MEC. They make a *huge difference* compared to regular briefs. My spandex has more padding though, making it comfy for longer rides. You can get them pretty cheap at the bike show, if you're okay to hold off for a bit. And get bib tights if you can. I got some at the spring bike show and will never go back to bibless.

EDIT: kthx im slow.

im willing to hold out a bit, but im thinking long tour before summer is out, so I may jump the gun and pick something up to tide me over.

hey man do what you can. alls fair in love, war, and MUP flashing

cavit8 07-30-08 10:02 AM

Lower price bracket is Sugoi, Pearl Izumi, then Castelli a few others with Assos being the creme de la creme. MEC has Castelli bib shorts for $80. A pair of regular shorts or even just a liner may be best if you've got limited cash and just want to try it out. If I'm doing stuff, like Krusty, I prefer liner under some cargo shorts.

I just got these from PBK...
...I paid 9 dollars to the tax and customs man...for the bib shorts and a hat...

still a good deal it looks like, how do you know what size to get?? it eludes me.

okay so my final question in the cycling shorts discussion, any particularly good place to buy? I like shops better than web ordering for most things.

Regular 26mm diameter - Nitto bullhorns

Thanks for the tip on the caliper, even though it's low-end old Crapmano (Exage Sport?), they still work nicely - I'll rip it apart and clean up. I'll likely replace the cable just 'cos. It saw a full winter and non-stop abuse for a bunch (7500+km) so I should do some maintenance I guess.

Reports of bicycle thefts have "dropped dramatically" since the arrests, police said. Only one theft report has come in so far, compared with 54 in June.

From the same article: "Pawn laws aren't strict enough to push buttons," Evans said.

The system is borked! Methinks that if the cops hadn't found all the drugs, Igor would have gotten a slap on the wrist.

alright, im heading out to play soon. anyone wanna come mess around on mountainbikes? ride wherever, bounce around on some stuff? you are welcome to join.

Anyone ride MTB at Haliburton Forest? Any reports? I am going to be up in that area this weekend.

Could your imagine as a small kid, who didn't know what Igor K looked like, hearing all this news about this guy and all his stashes. This is all I would think of.... Dr. Frankenstein killed that name... for North America at least.http://www.tipiloschi.net/nino/ninol...eldmanIgor.jpg

don is swampy, and pretty much unrideable as of an hour ago.

total fun this afternoon, although now my callouses have callouses.
managed to
a) get up on the rear wheel several times, no hops yet though.
b) ride over a park bench (among other similarly tall objects), to the surprise of a passerby
c) not break anything or cut myself badly.

success!
