Cool, good information as usual guys, thanks. I think I will build this hub up with an OpenPro rim and that should work nicely for our mean streets. I just need to track down a nice CX frame, something steel and unique. I saw a nice Ciocc was posted in the CX photo thread....so nice.

Clowntown, I walked by the pawn shop at Queen and Dufferin and he had no stolen Fuji track bikes. Keep looking....

WTF?

He contributed a crapload to the mechanics forum with all sorts of arcane knowledge.

jeremywhitehorn 02-04-08 11:44 PM

that sucks about sheldon. i just found out about it and was going to post but you guys beat me to it. a true wealth of knowledge if there ever was one.

oh and jet, bianchi makes a nice steel cross frame for not too much money. "volpe" i think it's called...

FYI Just heard on the radio King is closed between Spadina and Bathurst from downed hydro wires for anyone commuting in (assuming they're late like me ;))

Looks wet out, glad it's not cold though.

My buddy and I were wondering if TO / BFTO / BFSSFGTO / anyone / Bueller are going to organise a memorial ride (maybe in conjunction with the rest of the world?) for Sheldon... I know both of us personally feel he's helped us a LOT despite never even directly communicating with the man - it'd be nice to show that, and get some coverage/photos for his family to remember? *shrug* He's worth the thought.

Flimflam 02-05-08 08:53 AM

Hey clowntown - this yours you think?

I'm down with a memorial ride.

I found all the '07 geared Bianchi cx frames pretty hideous. The '08 ones are a big improvement though. However the '08 Volpe is still a nasty color AND comes with a triple crankset.. lame! :P

You might be able to find something at the Spring bike show in a month too.

The Kona stuff is pretty well spec'ed for the price if you're looking for something new and complete. Otherwise there are a decent number of fairly affordable framesets out there by companies like Planet-X/On-One, and Redline.

Whoa, that sounds super super suspicious----have to leave town, looking for a quick sale, no pics? I would be 98% sure that this is his. Emailling for pics right now....

I think the Volpe is something that would work for me as it has eyelets for fenders but I am not crazy about that gangreen colour (I think that is what Bianchi calls it) and something more unique would be cool. Thanks for the idea though, they seem to go for a pretty good price on eBay...

somnambulant 02-05-08 09:08 AM

jet: btw, this is what I'm riding: http://www.zedsport.com/pages/road/uncle_john.htm. You mentioned eyelets, which it has, so I thought it was worth mentioning.

clowntown 02-05-08 10:37 AM

hey thanks everyone for looking out, I emailed the dude and hopefully he gets back to me today.

TRaffic Jammer 02-05-08 10:38 AM

hmm U-lock ride to the Junction?

I like the cut of your jib, Andy.

TRaffic Jammer 02-05-08 12:02 PM

Bike thievery , for the most part, is like doin' B&E's in parkdale, just bad form. Nothing says give it back like 15 folks on the sidewalk with U-locks. Heck I'd even defend JIT5's right to go get a stolen ride back.

cavit8 02-05-08 12:11 PM

Except that's probably JIT trolling anyway, like he (may have done) did when Toby's bike got ripped. It's too perfect a post. Just enough to make sure it sounds like the photo and the gratuitious leaving town comment. Still worth following up though.

TRaffic Jammer 02-05-08 12:22 PM

Is JIT really that evil? That would be a new high in lows. That Cam, so level headed.

clowntown 02-05-08 01:29 PM

if someone is pulling my leg with that craigslist post, i will be pissed.......that's just wrong, wrong, wrong.

jet sanchEz 02-05-08 01:33 PM

Welp, I think it is a joke (har har) post as I emailed the guy with my contact info 25 minutes after it was posted and I haven't heard anything from him all day. And like cavit8 said, it is just too perfect. The forum is public, it could have been anyone who posted it. Bummer.

somnambulant 02-05-08 01:36 PM

I wouldn't give up so soon.. dude might be at work or something. We can't *all* goof off on the interwebs all day! :D

Yeah, if it *is* clowntowns' bike, the dude might be out 'working' getting other bikes :( Damn asshats.

Re: Sheldon - anyone thinking a memorial ride outside of the CM crowd would be fitting? I like the spokecard idea being floated in the main forum.

Spoke cards would kick ass, and I think the CM crowd is appropriate, given that most people there are avid enough to have benefited from Brown's advice.

I_bRAD 02-05-08 02:27 PM

Here's a longshot: Anyone in town have nipple washers? (yes, I know, I'm a nipple washer)

I'm talking nipple to wheel washers, not spoke to hub.

exhibitx 02-05-08 02:47 PM

mind = blown

jeremywhitehorn 02-05-08 05:09 PM

in know this is a slightly inappropriate thought but: what's going to happen to sheldon's bikes? my first inclination would be to put them in some sort of folk-museum. there is some real beauty in the function of his devices.
