do any of you guys have a six-speed road wheel in your parts bin? i want to build up the massive 67cm bridgestone i have into a rivendell-geek road bike.

AFAIK, you don't need them, but it's an old single wall rim with extra large spoke holes (the old spokes were 2.3mm dia!) I think I can re-use the old spokes, and I'd like to re-use the washers too except of course I knocked the container off the workbench and now I can only find 35 :mad:

Personally though, I'd rather use new 2.0 spokes and find some washers that fit the nipples for them.

Hey Jeremy I ran into one of your Toronto Fixed Group buddies last night. His name is David and he was riding a black True North frame with vertical dropouts and a concentric bottom bracket, setup as a fixed gear with Campagnolo Pista cranks. He said to say hi and that if I described his bike you'd know who he was. Seemed like a nice guy. We talked about how fun it is to ride in the snow and how funny it is when people think you're crazy for doing so.

I think so, although you may want to call ahead and ask for Martin in the back before making the trip (especially since it's going to storm tomorrow).

yeah i got an email from him about it. his bikes are truly amazing. he's an ex-randonneur. you should see his custom marinoni, but i will say the true north is a nice piece of work and it amazes me he rides in the slush and salt and ****, but i guess if you spend that much money on a bike you just ride it.
yeah, i feel his pain about sneaking bike stuff in the house; it's the same way my wife sneaks new outfits in the house i guess. every man needs his obsessions.

I dont know...I have always ridden with slix since i got this bike and have actually noticed its better then knobbies, except on ice in which case nuttin is better...

Cyclocross bikes were made for this type of slop. I had a great commute! Hooray for 700x35 knobbies!

Fixed feels so much better in this weather. Guessing its just the constant feedback you get from the road on fixed. Cross tires would've been nice, but slicks got me to work just fine.

It looks like most of the ice patches are being caused by jerks that shovel onto the road. Jerks. Can't wait until I have the mountain bike here: this crap will be a cake-walk with 26" fatties and disc brakes.

Side streets are a freaky carnival ride of differing textures and tractions. Main streets are merely a slushy mess. I'm more concerned for this evening as the temperature drops during the course of the day. Think it's icy now, wait til it's -5 tonight.

I prefer NOT to have wide tires in the snow/slop, actually. I find they just want to float on top of everything. Plus my discs squeal like a banshee when they're wet. :P

I'm actually calling to report the arseholes at the Harbord Petrocanada today because they take ALL their snow and push it into the bikelane where it doesn't disappear for weeks.

i have to say that bugs me too (sorry TJ) - why are you shoveling all the snow on the road that's just been plowed when it could just be pushed to the side?

i still want to try riding a pugsley in this weather...

Plowed? Plowed? These are side streets after all, where does this plowing occur> Not concerned about my precious weed container at all. :lol: It's flinging the crap up and over the fence that comes right up to the sidewalk that I hate. The street is a much more efficient direction to shovel. Man, plowing into the bike lane is evil, that does deserve a phone call. I thought the mains were pretty good this morning, I didn't see any trouble on Queen or King coming in from the East, loads of slush but that's unavoidable.

There's been alot of rumblings of bad/none at all work in the bike lanes, I wonder if it'll ever filter up to the top. Adam Vaughan may be getting involved in something with my daughter's school. It would be awesome to be able to sit and yack with him over a cuppa.
