So that's the answer to the seatpost size mystery at urbane today

i thought of that, but the cracks (there's a few of them) sit below the binder assembly (on either side of the vertical slot) and there's another one that's developed on on the seatstay welds. can you replace an entire down tube or is that just lugged frames?

Besides the different ergonomics of Campy...which i love....you can't overlook the fact that Campy ergo levers can be very easily repaired when they get worn out or damaged in a crash. *****mano better come out with something special next year or they are gonna get left behind in the Road wars.

Seat tube? Its not easy on a tig frame but can be done. A nice gusset around the offending area is probably the way to go.

BTW my vote would be for the kona from sweet pete's. just my $0.02.

60! 60! 60!
The JTS comes with pretty nice, albeit SPD, pedals as well. I loved mine. Sorry I sold it.

Okay...the 3 post thing is annoying.

hm, i'll give malcom a call in the morning. failing that - perhaps on the lookout for a new frame.

oddly enough, when i was in urbane today talking to one of the mechanics about it, a guy starts looking the bike over and says "hey - did you buy that off keith? that's my old frame!" small world; forgot to ask him his name.

Matt...your wheels are done.

You sir, are amazing. New wheels and a half a billion posts all in one night? :D

I hope they weren't too poorly started for ya!

If you haven't already taped 'em, don't sweat it, I've got some veloplugs here but if they're already taped I'm obviously not gonna complain. hehe

I did a quick test tonight and it looks like I'll be able to get the 18t and the 15t on without any chain mods from my current setup.

Can I pick 'em up tomorrow evening?

If the crack isn't too big (=<5mm) maybe you could drill a hole there to stop the crack from going further and alleviate a future stress riser. I noticed something like that on the Rivendell we're building up right now.

Edit: Oops, that sounds like a nastier crack than I initially thought.

I recently read that Campy dealers will be facing a price increase in the neighbourhood of 30% for 2008, at least for the North American market. The US dollar has fallen so far and so fast that nobody is expecting it to recover anytime soon and Campy (and all European companies, likely) is adjusting accordingly.

Shimano is expected to raise their prices by 10% or so, we shall see. Perhaps Shimano is going to win by default.

But yeah, the gap between the Euro and the USD has grown very wide. It is an unusual time, this is unmarked territory.

Not that I want to spam the forum buuuuuuuuut anyone remember this Marinoni?

http://www.makergo.com/shutup/images...7/adidas02.jpg

Well, if you like it and want it - owning it is now a possibility. The guys decided to auction it off and give the proceeds to the MS Society of Canada so if you're at all interested go HERE and bid to your heart's content.

I can't wait to watch this! bid this up- good work guys!

nerdsgirth 04-02-08 06:22 AM

Woo I'm the winning bidder- only 9 days to go!

operator 04-02-08 06:42 AM

With shimano '09 coming out with eDA and mechanical and not a peep from Campy. They may already have lost, price increase or not.

somnambulant 04-02-08 07:05 AM

Yeah, actually the ergonomics on the prototype DA brifters looks vastly improved. But, with that said, you can pry my Record brifters from my cold dead hands. :) The eDA stuff doesn't really interest me that much at this point. I'm bad enough with remembering to charge my phone, I wouldn't want to be out in the middle of nowhere and have my drivetrain run out of battery power.

I'll be back living in Toronto for the summer. Around Spadina / Harbord. Hopefully I'll see you guys around.

That's a hot bike.

I love the way Shimano tries to make it like a competition between equals....hahahahahahaha.
Poor misguided fools. They could be half the price, covered in icing sugar, and come with a bag of free trade coffee, and they'd still be trying to catch up. Sponsorship deals aside, there IS only one... and Campy is it.

The options reflected in this post are those of the commentator ONLY and do not reflect those of this board of any of it's sponsors. :D:rolleyes:

somnambulant 04-02-08 07:56 AM

Well, the SRAM stuff is pretty damn nice too. It definitely has a lot going for it. The one thing I really like that's now only on the Record/Chorus level shifters is the QS feature, which lets you shift through multiple cogs per button push. With Shimano you can go up 3 gears at a time, but you can only go down 1 at a time. With Campy you can totally dump the thing into an easy gear. Nice for 'cross in particular I find since you can hammer towards a steep hill and then dump the thing down a bunch of cogs in one go as you lose momentum.

TRaffic Jammer 04-02-08 07:59 AM

I'm picturing the release of eDA wireless shifting causing garage doors to open and close, car alarms to arm/disarm across Suburbia as ppl shift while riding by. *snikker* Then we'll find out it causes the same tumors as cell phone usage.

As of late last week it was a write off, I doubt it is now based on how much ice melted yesterday alone on my street. Fuel party was pretty cool but I think I showed up after most of you guys left.

I think I might take a spin over there after work today and check things out. It's amazing how much snow/ice melted yesterday. There's a huge lawn spanning several houses behind my house and yesterday morning it was still about 75% covered in snow. When I got home there was nothing left except for a big pile (snow fort!) right in the middle.

If anyone wants to take a little spin through there avec moi, fire me a PM.

zippered 04-02-08 10:20 AM

i don't know about the don, but as of monday the humber still had a lot of ice on the trail. i forgot to post a couple photos i took. i actually turned back before old mill station! it's only fun riding in the pouring rain to a point... but it sure does help to get rid of the snow.

LordFoo 04-02-08 10:34 AM

The Lakeshore / Martin Goodman trail is also icy in patches around the beaches area.

somnambulant 04-02-08 10:53 AM

From some new census stats that just came out today:

"20 — Percentage increase, from 2001 to 2006, in the number of Canadians (195,500) who biked to work."

Also:

"17,025 — Number of Canadians who identified their ethnic origin as "Newfoundlander" — far more than those who chose "Nova Scotian" (1,875) or "Ontarian" (1,650)."

hehehehe..
