Has anyone here ever requested a locking post from the city? I'm moving into a new place April 1st and the landlord was talking about getting a bike rack for the house(everyone that lives there uses a bike as their primary means of transport, even the landlords).

Also, can anyone recommend a storage system for bikes in my apartment? There's currently 3 soon to be 4 bikes in a pretty small place.

I am using one of those De Vinci hooks on the wall, but depending on the place and what type of walls you have a better solution would be one of those racks that runs from floor to ceiling.

This is Cams (Cavit8) solution.

Yes, we had some installed at both of Cycle Therapy's location. It was an entirely painless and fairly quick process. I'm not sure if that's because were were a bike shop (bike-centric/commercial business) but like I said, no issues. We had ... three/four installed at a time.

Went riding in High Park last night ... three other people riding there. Last time there was only one. Come on spring!

I live on the 2nd floor of a small house. Above the stairs mi-way there is a large unusable space 1.5 floor tall. I put some pulleys and hooks and it holds two bikes weeee!!. It's pretty specific to my place though...

that's pretty sweet

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-09 08:55 AM

hmm that would totally work in my house..... now if I can convince the others in the house that's is safe to walk under those..... Though, I will still need drip dry time before hanging it up. Cool.

a few years ago i requested that a couple posts be installed outside of my apartment at the time, and it was indeed a quick and painless process. i wonder if the city is using double rings for all the new posts? of course it's best to keep your bikes inside (with a pulley!!) but if you're in a building with stairs then it's nice to have a quick place to lock up outside too.

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-09 09:05 AM

Locking outside.... *shudders*... *pats his bike* "No baby, she wasn't talking about you....*

zippered 03-05-09 09:13 AM

i wouldn't dare!

also, yesterday was a good day to ride...

Yeah you can be sure I used a stud finder! For the heavy 30lbs touring bike there is another hook on the wall so the rear wheel is held at two spots. I admit it's not quick to move the bikes from there but those are the bikes I use the less and not in the winter.

The hardest part in the installation was to bring the f'ing 10' ladder inside (no way a 12' would fit btw learned the hard way).

Hello City of Toronto, I'd like a couple bike parking rings installed on my front porch.

Haha, I'm the same way, although now bringing the bike in you get to start worrying about condensation too.

I'm lucky enough that work has indoor bike parking and I can always find a spot to stow the bike in my apartment. It happens so infrequently that if I lock my bike outside for over an hour I start to almost expect it to be stripped

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-09 10:06 AM

I'm sooooooo grateful for my underground parking here at work, I'd never leave my bike outside all day down here.

elTwitcho 03-05-09 10:11 AM

I work at the welfare office at Jarvis and Wellesley. My bike wouldn't last a week if I started locking it up on the street, Krypto Fahgetaboutit or not...

An new infill home that I pass on my way downtown got 2 or 3 of them installed back from the sidewalk on the private side of the property line; the first such installation I've seen.

They could put em on my front lawn if they wanted to, but not sure if that would be too far from the house.
I have a wrought iron fence now ppl can lock to , but we might be cutting it out and selling it for recycling. It's UUUUUUGLY and makes the yard feel, well, boxed in and confined.

Anyone ever challange duty?

I put in a request some time ago and have heard nothing back. I had some bike parts marked as auto parts and got charged duty.

Seemed easy enough to do, but thought I would have heard back by now. Now I'm wondering if something gets rejects, if you hear back at all.

I love that my firm owns the office we're in, so I can bring my bike into my office.

How long is "some time"? I had to send a PBK order back (long annoying story) + filed a claim to get the taxes back about a month ago & am still waiting.. I think CBSA is pretty slow to process refunds.

Saw a guy heading north on Bathurst on a beautifully built-up Cervelo track bike last night, nice ride, dude (and nice dodging those eager peds crossing :))

I also love that I don't have to lock up outside for work. Especially when I head up to North York.

I'm going to start some every-fortnight rides on the weekend mornings to try and get myself into a better shape with a view to going to the midweek club rides.

Are there any recommended sites/videos/media to look at/read for trying to get fit/healthy on a bike? I don't have a trainer, so I'm stuck to outdoor riding (farking wind! :)) but have an MP3 player that can hold audio clips, if applicable.

5-6 weeks or so, nothing crazy, but was starting to wonder how long it should take
