So brampton to metro hahaha here's hoping that the rain holds up!!! I'm comin south to steeles, and across where it meets finch, then east on finch FTW to yonge... So if you see some poor ******* of a blue miele with a blue/gold/blue bag about to fall over and die... say hi!

tdot-miele 11-11-08 09:59 PM

oh ya, and that ride's gonna be on my 52x14... 100.3 GI is gonna kick my ass all over the place

1. Are you nuts? re: GI
2. If you're going to/from b-town, its much safer to take Clark across to Devon, then Intermodal to Finch. Depending on where you need to get to, you can take Finch (death trap), or the Humber trail and a bunch of side streets. Heck, even Wilson would be safer than Finch.

jet sanchEz 11-11-08 11:40 PM

I don't think he is riding fixed at 52X14

jeremywhitehorn 11-12-08 12:27 AM

i hope not.

i know there's lots of options out there for the dough - i was more curious how $85 shoes performed in the winter.

Riding that fixed will be nuts, let's hope you're not ;)

Also +1 on Wilson over Finch - less rollers and just generally a better ride - I take it eastbound between Keele and ~Bathurst or Avenue unless I bother to cross Yonge - with my current 80GI I really don't fancy that yet though ;).

If you can pre-plan your route (in the dark might be tricky) - the Humber trail is definitely really nice, though IMO it's something more for a daytime ride, I don't like MUPs at night (short of having some serious lighting anyway).

I'll likely be up at Keele/Steeles for the rest of the week - If you want some company for some of the way, that's cool - let me know/PM me - I usually leave that area at 5-5:30ish. I'll take the opportunity to ride east over to my buddies.

They locked it up in front of Bikes On Wheels a few days ago and now it looks like this.

If anyone knows the owner, you might wanna let them know...

That is/was Rob (Bikeophiles). He had an accident and left it at BOW. I was under the impression he left it IN the store. The front wheel was toast. But he did have Record Pista cranks that I see are no longer there. SO SAD!!!

And for the record..he doesn't hate his bike...but riding it with a busted arm and sprained wrist wasn't a possibility. Thanks for the usual kneejerk response.

shapelike 11-12-08 08:14 AM

You're welcome?

I wouldn't call it kneejerk, but whatever, you're sticking up for your friend who was hurt so there's no sense arguing about it. Hopefully he heals up soon. Someone get his damn keys and bring the bike inside though!

yep, levels, open pros and all... i don't know what it had in terms of cranks and stem / bars, etc. but apparently one of the guys from the shop went out and put some sort of cover over the brooks to try to diminish the attention to it... didn't work, i guess.

i don't get this.. they have a shop.. they have a bike which is one of the nicer ones that toronto streets see.......... and they leave it parked outside?

i've been to BoW numerous times and they have more than enough room to park customers bikes inside while 1. waiting for parts or 2. if its going to be left there for more than the business day..

odd... hope that guy gets his bike in working order with the class parts he had before all this..

TRaffic Jammer 11-12-08 08:30 AM

I've taken WIlson up to Highway 7 from Dundas, not too too bad, though granted it was at 6:30 in the morning and then back down about 4ish.

STEEKER 11-12-08 08:58 AM

Finch ave is a crap shoot

my understanding is that it was in the shop for a few days but when they couldn't fix what needed to be fixed the owner came to pick it up at which point he locked it outside... the guys from the shop were all surprised when it was still there the next day and after a few more figured that something must have happened to the owner but i guess no one knew him to be able to get in touch with him...

keith - that sucks... i hope you didn't think i was trying to cut on the guy, i really just thought that someone should get in touch with the owner and let him know... if you can get in touch with him let me know... i'll go get his keys and get what's left of the bike for him...

He will be going by there today to grab whats left. He was pretty seriously injured and hasn't had the opportunity to pick it up. I didn't know it was on the street or I would have gone up there and grabbed it myself...he is using my Krypto Chain which I have the spare key for.

As for the comments... I am just tired of people here who just arbitrarily make judgements without knowing the situation. That someone must hate their bike because they left it locked up somewhere. That someone without brakes is reckless or stupid....etc etc etc. Most of the time I can't be bothered to respond to this thread anymore but when a friend is involved I couldn't resist.

TRaffic Jammer 11-12-08 10:33 AM

Maaaan that sucks so hard.

That really sucks. When I was out in the ambulance, we picked up injured cyclists all the time and, being a cyclist myself, I would insist that they not only lock up the bike but tell a family member or friend where the bike was (when they were calmed down and at the hospital, obviously). More often than not, I would get the cops on scene to throw the bike in their trunk, insuring that the person could get their bike at a later date.

I can only imagine the suckage that occurs when you are released and then you go to get your bike and it is stripped or gone. I wish I had some decent parts to offer up but it sounds like it was a nicer build than I have on hand...

elTwitcho 11-12-08 12:07 PM

Well, for something a little more uplifting...

http://newsimg.bbc.co.uk/media/image...beer_ap466.jpg

From the BBC "German cyclists Robert Bartko (R) and his teammate Iljo Keisse enjoy a victory beer in Munich after winning a six-day tournament."

Damn

AJRoberts 11-12-08 12:33 PM

The beer+glass probably weighs more than their bikes!

TRaffic Jammer 11-12-08 12:54 PM

mmmmmm beer.

Wow, that does look refreshing. I am a Guiness man m'self but sometimes a Hoegartten (sp?) or a Corona is really nice, especially on a patio just as the sun is goind down. Dang, it isn't even cold yet and I am already longing for the summer...

Though Guinness is a perfect drink for the winter time, IMO. Hoegaarten is good, too. I love a splash of (ruby) port in my Guinness once in a while, too... mmm, Guinness...

Mmm, port.

Keith at Cyclesolutions on Parliment or Phil and John at Cycletherapy. I have handbuilt wheels from both that are indistructable. The one Phil built is a rear fixed wheel I've abused for 2 years and is still perfectly true. And Keiths work is very well know for being top top quality.

went for a ride tonight, met up with some longboarder friends and raced them down russel hill rd. we were hitting 50-55km/h (GPS) which means on a 42:16 gear ratio thats 160 rpm-ish... :D

exhibitx 11-12-08 10:23 PM

that's funny, i "raced" some skateboarders down russel hill maybe 3 weeks ago

i was riding by them and one of them said "wanna race?", i said "yeah let's go", and 5 seconds later all i heard was "you win!" from way behind me ... i was on my road bike but i guess it wouldn't have mattered .. i'm sure we both got a kick out of it

didn't he used to have a spicer frame or something? i remember him riding a nice oversized frame last time i saw him. actually last time i saw him he had a bike in your shop with a broken frame i believe. what luck...

Flimflam 11-13-08 07:39 AM

Rode east last night, going east up York Mills from Yonge definitely sucked as much as I thought it would, but I didn't walk it at least :) The wind did a good job of kicking my ass most of the way south/east, but damn .. spinning high with 80GI available is scary quick (35mph down that hill Wilson toward Yonge - 145rpm?) - the difference is there's still plenty of "go" in her, man I love that - can just keep feeding it to the thing and I don't spin out. I love that work, the hill up from Bayview on York Mills was really nice to hit - the one from Yonge is just a bit too much for my comfort, I gave it what I could be bothered, then let it sag and just mashed the rest of the way (thank Dog for clipless/foot retention)

tdot-miele: What say you? I can ride east to Yonge-ish with you if you want company on Wilson. Other than some hairy pothole-ish areas, it's decent enough. Lemme know, else I'll be flying straight south down Keele.

somnambulant 11-13-08 08:02 AM

Blargh. I never knew tool chests/cabinets were so expensive. I went to Canadian Tire looking for something to help tidy up my 'bike room', but wasn't really prepared to spend hundreds of dollars on something with a few drawers in it. *sigh*

TRaffic Jammer 11-13-08 08:54 AM

Wes... check out the pawn shops, tools and such are some of the first things to go in tough times.
