Today I used my Gordini gloves, which I think are from MEC. They're regular ski gloves basically - very warm but useless for trying to use fingers/any kind of dexterity. For slightly warmer temps, I wear a pair of those really small/tight wool gloves (cheapo things you see at Canadian Tire, etc.) and wear them under either my neoprene diving gloves (if it's raining or cooler) or some crap leather driving gloves. The wool helps my fingertips keep warm under the windchilled leather.

The ski gloves are pretty well overkill until it gets a bit further below 0, but I've worn my wool gloves into fingerless on most digits, so I need to replace - and this wind is cold in just those leather gloves :)

the CM halloween ride is this friday and so is a bike polo match around the same time, which one are peeps going to ,.

omg keith as lil jon just screams photoshop mashup!!

anyways, i was just at MEC yesterday to look at gloves and what they got for cycling isn't all that hot.. i mean, kinda exp and don't look/feel all that warm. there was a pair of what felt like neoprene's that i thought would be ok, but the palms aren't padded and i think the wind would rip em after a while.

^^ not what i thought would hold up to winter..

i went to the upstairs section and got a pair of other thin, but a little more robust nylon (claimed windproof) fingers/knuckles and the palms are padded with another textured cloth. i think they are for cross country skiiing..

they fit ok.. will see how they last for the donut run on sunday..
hmm they dont' seem to be listed on MEC's site, but they are thin lined and $29.

i have a pair of descent gloves and they are very uncomfortable

i think they tend to make the thumbs too short and they have those seems right at the tip of the thumb ... maybe my thumb is just too big but i've never had issues with other gloves and if i got the XL's they would be too big

STEEKER 10-29-08 11:20 AM

Velotique at Coxwell and Queen has some nice winter gloves http://www.velotique.com/glove-winter.htm

iherald 10-29-08 12:04 PM

I've always gone with the idea of true winter cycling gloves are either the lobster type or look the same as 'normal' gloves. I've always wondered whether the type of gloves that construction workers use would be good for cycling. They would be good for the cold and they would need good use of their hands.

I don't know where a construction worker would shop, but markswork warehouse?

just another question.. does anyone here run the sunday morning "donut run" from north york to king city? im gonna go for the first time on sunday, weather permitting - any other fixed-riders want to join?

gotta look for warmish clothes now...

STEEKER 10-29-08 01:25 PM

do this group still do night rides around the city on single/fixed

Flimflam 10-29-08 01:51 PM

I'm likely not into the donut run for this weekend.

Steeker, the Devil Strip Rollers still do their weekly cruises/rides I think - http://www.devilstriprollers.com - if it's going ahead, it'll be tonight at 9 at Victoria/Gould - Lake Devo I *think* - there's a Facebook group for them too.

STEEKER 10-29-08 02:16 PM

is just a big ride around on cool routs or tricks or racing or all the above and food later

Flimflam 10-29-08 02:31 PM

I've not been for a couple of months, but the Wednesday nights were just rides around different areas for fun, no racing (Sprints were a feature, but seemed to have taken a backseat).

"Track tricks" was something started on Tuesday nights by Tom Mosher at Trinity Bellwoods (later they started going to the Polo at that park at Dundas/Bathurst I think) but I've only been there a couple of times and it might have died off with the weather.

all of you looking for warm gloves, and want to be able to move your hands, look at ice climbing gloves

pyze-guy 10-29-08 03:11 PM

I am using some MEC windblocker gloves right now, very thin and comfy. They seem to be good to amout -2/3 degrees. I like the lobster gloves in the real cold times. I used the Swix brand before, very comfy but not warm enough. The MEC ones are better as I can weat thin liner gloves as well.

~Stuart~ 10-29-08 03:12 PM

oh yea and they cost like 100$+

kergin 10-29-08 03:40 PM

Hey, does anyone out there have interest in trading my Brook B17 CS for a Specialized Toupe / Avatar or Selle Italia?

Jabba Degrassi 10-29-08 05:19 PM

Dayum, those Traverse gloves look like just what the doctor ordered.

~Stuart~ 10-29-08 06:20 PM

Or these

STEEKER 10-29-08 06:30 PM

just got in from a small loop ride along danforth ,, that wind was every where and cold too, forgot my wallet so no pizza slice stop

Craigslist.

I picked up a frame (and fork, headset) of extreme hotness tonight for an excellent price. Of course I have no real need for the frame per say, but can't pass up a good deal.

for that price, if it's just the frame and fork you'd be better off just buying a new one.
