Agreed. I just ordered some gloves from them and I think, as was discussed earlier in this board, the students are at the customs again and they nailed me on $15 in items for like $7 (not terrible but very rare).

You may want to either wait until Sept and even then order one tyre at a time so you lessen the chance of paying duty.

Hey tuz, I just noticed now that you have an Alycon CX bike-----is it hanging in the Cherry Bomb coffee shop on Roncesvalles?

Whether it is or not, it is the nicest looking CX bike I have ever seen. I love the old-skool lugged steel with the new components and I want one. Some of the old Pinarellos CX bikes are really nice too...

wow...what a concept...that 'ish is tight!

i saw similar ones on a guys comfort bike a few weeks ago, the ones they carry in cyclesolutions... pretty shaite, they are weak as ass and blink only when the magnet is physically moving past them.

but, geeking the magnets to charge a small battery and hooking it up to a decent lamp would be pimpage.

If you put several magnets it would work alright.

aaronu 08-19-08 03:48 PM

hey gang, anyone have tips on how to remove a stubborn, immobile drive side BB cup? this thing is making me swear.

shapelike 08-19-08 04:02 PM

Meeting up with Fuzzz for a Don ride @ 7pm. We're heading out from the Pottery Road trailhead if anyone wants to join in the fun/mayhem.

shapelike 08-19-08 04:03 PM

Lately I've been thinking that I haven't smoked in something like 10 months ... getting close to the big one-year!

32flavours 08-19-08 04:45 PM

Congrats, Mike!

Note to all: farmer's markets are rad.

Flimflam 08-19-08 05:25 PM

Nice going Mike, keep it up! I hope I never have to quit (never started).

What type of cup? cone and cup...shimano...external?

kergin 08-19-08 06:18 PM

sometimes i like to use the chainstay for some leverage when removing cups. not all BB tools or designs will allow for this, but when they do, that trick usually works.

reminds me - today the mech at labicicletta hooked me up with a free dustcap removal tool and shimano brand external bb wrench. when i asked how much, he says, "just put it in your bag..." LULZ!

apparently, the new external bb cranks start to exhibit clicks when there's any dirt on the spindle... which is odd, cause clicking usually means dead/dying bb with splined/square taper systems.

keith - how's the shimano chain breaker tool? It was a toss up between the park and this shimano and I snagged the shimano on recommendation.

freecycle 08-19-08 06:33 PM

^^ LOL, I am so going to go pick up some tools from there ;)

Aside from total-body hangover fatigue, gorgeous don ride today. I ran it in full gear to see what its like and it rocks, raceface pads, MEC camelbak with my essential tools in it, the bern helmet and my new yellow glasses. Little bit hot at first running fully padded, but once everything is soaked with sweat it breathes pretty well for some reason. plus, the shinnies saved me today on a nasty bit of stump, worth every penny already.

K, the bike is running perfectly, I fine-tuned the tension and it didnt complain at all. I will need new bars as I have been noticing a few dents and dings that arent very healthy, however the rest is pretty indestructible. thx for the brakes/grips, excellent combination, and very comfortable :thumb:

Hey Jet. It's not. They have those Mariposa paintings there as well is that right? I have to check the place. Anyway I got mine recently. It's actually an old 50's bike that was retro-fitted for CX use by bike specialities. Nervex lugs and TA crank, 1x7sp, very pretty :) I loooove lugged bikes.

Nice. Yeah, Cherry Bomb has some sort of partnership with Bicycle Specialities and they hang neat old bikes on the wall, switching them out every month or so. Last month was a sweet Schwinn Apple Kart and now it is this crazy-wicked Alycon CX bike. I took a photo once of this, a Mariposa touring bike that looked pretty sweet to me:

they have 3 models

one that only blinks when the magnet passes
one that has a capacitor and stores energy, blinking 2x per second
one that is a constant light

you can buy extra magnets to add to all 3

my friend had the one without the capacitor on his bike, even spinning it by hand
it was much, much brighter than my MEC turtle that i had in my bag.

My NJS is DOA...

It's been awhile since I last visited...

I got hit by a car last night. I'm fine, but my Makino has seen better days...

Do you think Malcolm or someone other frame builder can repair the damage?

Oh dude, that sucks balls but I'm glad you're alright.

1) Who was at fault?

2) It would be nice to get it repaired but even if you do and the driver was at fault; they should be paying for you to get another Makino, exactly the same if you want it, no matter the cost.

I tried to cross Church @ Asquith Ave. It was rush hour. I didn't see him coming around the bend. It was a miscalculation on my part. I thought it was clear to cut across. Traffic southbound was at a stand still, so I wiggled through them, tried to look around the SUV to the right of me, thought it was clear, and then whammo! The bend that Church makes just north of Bloor skewed my peripheral.

I didn't call the cops. I would have got a ticket for not having any brakes anyways. :)

tuz 08-20-08 10:20 AM

In theory it can be repaired I think. From the biseagle webpage: top tube + down tube = 350$ and who knows what else is needed (headtube, repaint, special order for tubes, fork...). That sucks man glad you're ok.

shapelike 08-20-08 12:19 PM

If Noah repaints it that's probably another $400+ ... Krusty, price estimate?

jet sanchEz 08-20-08 12:19 PM

I've never seen Biseagal's work but for a frame of that calibre, I would put in a call to Marinoni. I know that the Marinoni doesn't work anymore but his steel shop is pretty highly regarded. It won't be much to ship it there and when I have talked with them on the phone, they are very helpful and prices are reasonable.

shapelike 08-20-08 12:20 PM

Ronin, this is awful timing but did I remember right and you work somewhere that sells these: http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php ... if so, any ide on pricing in Canada? I'd like to pick up a pair. Maybe you make commision and my purchase can help fund the Makino repair.

trueno92 08-20-08 12:35 PM

hey guys, im new here and work in the core so i see messengers mashin about all the time, and after getting completely tanked with folder bike modding, now i want to build a fixie of my own.

obtained a fuji track 2007 that is just missing a wheelset, a cog and a chainring...

anyone have any links or have a spare set of weinmanns or deep v's kicking around?

other than that, hoping to ride before snow gets around.. damn cold summer so far...!

elTwitcho 08-20-08 03:12 PM

Nothin here. Good luck with the buildup though.

And whoever had that rad black and silver bike with the swept back handlebars, brown saddle and brown grips that he posted a week ago, I saw the bike locked up today at Church and Wellesley near my work. Looks damn nice in person, rad bike.

I would go a step further and call Hugh at True North. He will give the frame the care it deserves. Not a knock on Marinoni...they do decent work...but Hugh is more of a craftsman than the guys at Mari.

Aaron...if the cup is really stuck in there you will need a BIG wrench (or a small one and a cheater bar) and a crank bolt long enuf to hold the cup tool firmly in the cup. Once the tool is secured in the cup you can really go to town with the torque. If this doesn't work you may need to resort to torching it to break the bond.

aaronu 08-20-08 05:00 PM

thanks a lot for the tips. i should be taking a trip to CBN tomorrow.
