i think they do the donut on holidays, so if the weather isn't bad i think i'll do it on friday

I think anyone that made it out is hooked and this will be a weekly lather/rinse/repeat provided ppl are healthy and the weather cooperates.

I had no idea so many athletes are riders. I better step up my pathetic game and get my knee looked at. The operator didn't even break a sweat.
Cupcrazy ran with superstar stamina
Sir flimflam owned the climbs fendered out and all.

It was good times you all tempt me to give up the desk-job and train as an olympian.

I tasted the 2x2 formation on the return and it was euphoria - until I got dropped after the climb. Then it was just a bad dream.

exhibitx 04-05-09 08:20 PM

nice recap

did you guys end up doing the 80k or one of the longer ones?

aMull 04-05-09 08:29 PM

I'm definitely coming next weekend, sounds like a fun ride. How bad are the hills for 48/17 gearing?

shapelike 04-05-09 09:01 PM

So, Flanders was today. Do I spy a bunch of de-badged Thomson posts on the Garmin team bikes?

Flimflam 04-05-09 09:15 PM

Yeah, donut ride was fun - rough at times on the fixed (like when the chain falls off starting the nice ride back down so you miss the pack grr :p), but still a good ride.

I think most of us did the shorter route, taking a right from Keele onto King Rd. to head over to Yonge. From my place to Eglinton/Laird and back home was 111km all in, so 80k sounds reasonable.

cupcrazy4 went north more I'm pretty sure.

Just got back from a ride around the east end, man I'm beat... going to sleep well tonight :)

kergin 04-05-09 09:28 PM

Sweet! Just won some NOS square taper Veloce cranks on eBay for $70 CAD shipped.

looks like it, they're sponsored by 3t now as well and i'm quite sure 3t doesn't make a setback seatpost, so that would explain that

shapelike 04-05-09 09:39 PM

Uh, ya they do. The Palladio. I was just getting at the use of non-sponsored products that work better on tough days than the regular blingie stuff. It's the same thing as guys racing on Nemesis/Reflex rims, etc.

exhibitx 04-05-09 09:43 PM

the palladio isn't out, was supposed to be out by now but they re-designed the clamp

exhibitx 04-05-09 09:53 PM

found a photo from tour of california, definitely a thomson, it looks like some of them were de-bandged and some weren't, weird

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3562/...9cb6a15744.jpg

edit: looks like this is their standard seatpost (debranded), guess they aren't sponsored by 3t for the seatposts, they just run the thomson unsponsored

I rode that exact gearing. If you can maintain 400w going up keele you'll be fine.

Ahh, I see. Noted.

kergin 04-06-09 08:20 AM

Well, that was an interesting ride to work.

trueno92 04-06-09 08:26 AM

we passed by some great sights that I didn't photograph, like passing by sunset blvd around Bethesda and stouffville sideroad.

there was one dude on a vintage rossin, we chatted and he sounded french or something. messenger bag and all and he was still hauling.

Indeed. I learned that getting into a deep aero tuck and pointing your head down as far as you can while still being able to see is a great way to keep hail from hitting you in the face...

A healthy mix of snow, to hail, to rain. This weather is bull****.

tuz 04-06-09 11:16 AM

yeah... not to mention the potholes that surprise you because you can't really see thanks to the rain/hail/snow.

jet sanchEz 04-06-09 12:51 PM

Lately, the potholes seem to lie in wait, only jumping out on me at the last second ;)

:crash:potholes arghhhhhhhh!!! theres sooooooooo many more now...its sickening...cant remember the last time I had a pothole free ride! is it just me or are the streets lookin extra chewed up this year?

TRaffic Jammer 04-06-09 01:05 PM

As they haven't been "fixed" but "patched" over the past few years ... yup extra crispy road surface. Watch out on Bloor east of Yogne, the yellow line has a pavé lip in it from two off height paves, that juuust might grab your wheel. Almost took me down at rush hour as I ran the line, was sketchy as hell for a second or two.

cupcrazy4 04-06-09 01:14 PM

yeah, yonge between eglinton and lawrence is just brutal. It's a wonder my wheels are still in one piece.

kergin 04-06-09 01:22 PM

Bloor is ridiculous all year long.

pffff... I do it everyday it's awful. I'm even more nervous these days knowing there is a crack in my rim.

For fun go east on Blythwood just north of Eglinton... a mine field of a street.

I raise you Rushton Rd, between St. Clair & Vaughan.

iherald 04-06-09 01:35 PM

I read something in the Star a few days ago about you call a number and within 3 days the City will come and patch up any pothole.

TRaffic Jammer 04-06-09 01:37 PM

again.. "patch" not fix..have you seen them patching.... shovel black road crap into hole, hit hard with shovel, drive away.

Not saying that the post isn't a Thomson, it definitely looks like one, but that logo looks to be 'shopped on...

exhibitx 04-06-09 04:02 PM

I think I pulled it off the garmin photo stream, so I don't think so, but who knows. I thought it looked a little weird to.
