Heheh, it was a very weird transaction....the guy didn't speak English nor did his wife and I was in their garage trying to explain that I didn't want all this stuff that he was giving me but he kept insisting so, what's a guy to do?

Campy 10 speed isn't compatible with Shimano 10 speed, although works fine on Shimano 9 speed clusters. I guess you'd have to set your limit screws to prevent the chain from being thrown... .

Fuxj yeah!!! I've heard the Shiftmate isn't that great, but would be curious to know from someone who's tried it. |

Fuxj yeah!!! Let me know if you want the wheel, I am downtown but pretty mobile... Holy heck, the wind was nuts last night! I was on my single-speed at about 1am on Richmond going west and I swear that I was standing still at times....crazy. |
2nd the winds ran some Leslieville to Kensington errands, windy woot! Coming home was a blast!!!
Going west was face to stem in the drops riding. |
that's one crazy tailwind. Not much to be said for riding west or up yonge though
jeeze |
Went to get a haircut @ Lawrence Square, and as I was heading back along Marlee the winds through those apartments on the east side were causing enough turbulence to throw me off my bike and nearly onto the ground. It's friggin' miserable out there!

I've heard the Shiftmate isn't that great, but would be curious to know from someone who's tried it. On another un-related note. I happened to be working on a Giant road bike yesterday that had been in a collision with a car. After a very thorough cleaning, inspecting the frame and fork for damage and checking all the frame and dropout alignments, I tuned it up..trued the wheels and readied it for a test ride. We test ride everything that comes in for service. As it was torrentially raining I decided to forgo the usual around the block ride and just run it through the shop until I could take it out for a proper shakedown. As i got to the front of the shop and went to turn the front wheel, I heard what can only be described as a loud crunch as the left fork blade shattered right in the middle of the tube. If it was bigger than a 50cm bike I would have hit the floor of the shop...if it hadn't been raining I would have been picking up my chicklets off the street with busted fingers. I went over this fork very carefully and it showed no outward signs of damage. I don't know what the moral of the story is but it scared the crap out of me. Tour of Pelham was a muddy mess today. I very much enjoyed toodling around on my ride and taking pics rather than racing. Mike...fix your alarm clock pronto! |
Hmm how well would that jtek work older shimano 105 6-speed downtube shifters?
Maybe campy wheels are in the cards for late later this year... Who is up for tmrw? Gonna be colder tho. |
I assume that was a carbon fork keith?

I try really hard not to think about broken forks. There are certain riding situations that scare me (which I superstitiously don't discuss) but as far as mechanical failures go a broken fork has always spooked me the most.

I'll be at Eglinton and Laird around 8:50ish. Blue Jake the Snake + Blue top
who else is going? We'll be going to Eglinton/Laird, I'm aiming for 8:45. Ran my road bike today, insane fun spinning the hell out of my legs - really missed that. Wind was intense, and I only went to St. Clair/Christie - was nice being able to crank it out into different ratios to mitigate the godawful headwind going back west. |
I'll be blacked out, save for a red/white limar lid.
My left knee has been inflamed all of today, so I'll be on my road bike - blue tires. I'll take that busted wheel, Jet, we'll hammer out a time that works best for you. I'll be with a buddy of mine on his road bike as well |
I am opting out tomorrow, because family is coming from out of town. See you next weekend, I guess?
The honeymoon with my Miele is over. Started cleaning it today when I discovered the BB is notched. Next, I noticed a hairline crack emanating from the bolt hole out to the side of the drive side arm. I cannot get the drive side arm off the BB... Keith, I suspect this bike will be getting a trip to you fairly soon... like, tomorrow. Got any suitable cranks in stock? |

I'll see you guys at yonge/steeles on my crack'n'fail. |
how'd the donut go?
i think they do the donut on holidays, so if the weather isn't bad i think i'll do it on friday |
You might think that being the most expensive lock on the market, a NYC lock that is stored indoors wouldn't just suddenly seize up and become impossible to open.
You'd think that, but you'd be wrong of course. EDIT: Somebody add "seized kryptonite lock" to the long list of things you can fix with a hammer. A bit of phil wood grease should hopefully prevent this from happening again, especially god forbid if my bike is stuck locked to something |
Use graphite spray. Also, a NY lock is far from the most expensive lock on the market
|
Also, got out for a bit on the fixed today and also had my first cherry beach cheeseburger of the year. The guy uses cheap patties... but he cooks 'em up good. Maybe it's just 'cause I'm always on a ride when I go there but I always really enjoy his burgers (and I am a total burger snob). His fries are top notch too.

Icebreaker was epic today. Best weather and course conditions in years. Our team absolutely killed it with 18 podiums. I was one of em with a 3rd. My bike is the most incredible piece of white awesomeness evar! That is all.
