The thought of spinning at 120rpm in the 16x34 and only going 28.6 km/h kinda scares me!

It seems that most stock SS MTBs come with either 16 or 17 cogs and 32 or 34 cranks, so I'm definitely in the 'traditional' zone.

I may have to copy you and do your nifty double chainring trick or something.

I'm running 32/14 right now, and it's ok. Not as fast as the fixie of course, but it does have big chunky tires, and it's intended for sloppy snow riding. That's about a 2.29:1 ratio. If you want faster, maybe go 34/14 or something.

Sirrobinofcoxly 12-11-06 06:20 PM

P.S. [Shiznaz] Are you running fixed, SS freewheel, or converted freehub body with spacers?

I'm 42/14 for the street, going to try 38/15 for the snow, or go 38/13 if needed.

For some double chainring s/s bling 38/35

Two things: regarding Suntour, has anyone seen their crazy downhill "gearbox" setup? Looks pretty interesting. Also, the Surly Mr. Whirly cranks look like another really interesting design idea. I'm still trying to figure out what type of bb they'll use.

And yes, I was jerking off to the thought of Rob's legs while my cat watched. It's a family affair.

Pretty sure it takes an external BB, like you find on most the new Shimano MTB and Road cranks. Sweet!

And yes, I do want several of these.

I'd like to say that I took the photo, because I've been hording this crank for months before unveiling it on my new super bike...but no.

easy, mr fancy pants, i thought we were breaking in the machine. eventually work your way up to fresh roasted i deal blend. speaking of which: if i haven't said it before, i highly recommend their "prince of darkness" blend. as smooth and complex as operator's legs.

350 dollars for a new quality steel bike spec'ed to my liking is pretty crazy... didn't even have to get my hands dirty!

edit: all I need to complete it is switch the triple to a single crank. Anyone have a spare mtb crank (single double or otherwise)? The one that came on the smoke has the rings riveted to the spider.

Niiiiice. Super stoked! Should be wicked fun for the snow ride. Time to get messy drunk...and messy.

As far as I know, we're waiting for the snow. I guess it should just be a spontaneous thing. I'll try posting the ride poster tonight!

Converted freehub body with spacers, so I have the option to run more than one cog at the same time.

Awesome, as long as it doesn't snow Wednesday night. Don't think I can blow off an exam to ride my bike in the snow. The prof might not be too sympathetic. Have to get the fixed wheel for the snow. Don't really want to go s/s with only a front brake.

I don't think it's going to snow for the next week or so anyhow. Rain rain, warm and more rain. It will probably be after x-mas before this thing is able to happen. But it's fun to dream (and make posters) isn't it?

Also think I might order a pound of I deal - prince of darkness if the shipping isn’t too crazy. I now have a grinder.

If the Mr. Whirly ends up w/ this sort of finish I am so ****ing sold:
