Anyone know if Cavern is open on Monday? And when he opens (I know I can phone and I will later, I'm just not able to right now so I thought I'd try the internet)

Hey.. who's the guy I met at CV with the Black IRO? I think I saw you on Harbord today. I saw someone with bare drops and a black IRO anyway.

Oddly enough, i saw him too on bloor coming to work today.

i think i has a visit from the puncture-flat fairy last night. woke up to find my rear tire deflated this morning as i was already running behind. fixed it but it made me 40 minutes late for work. i had to ttip-toe in to my desk, boy.

TJ - yes the midge bars are intetesting, and particuarly usefull if you set them up right (ie- higher the better), particularly on an off road bike or at least one with which you do a lot of climbing.

Anyone else use time pedals and have problems with disengagement? i've accidentally popped out of mine several times recently while grunting up steep inclines.

On a vaguely related note, anyone have experience w/ Time ATAC XEs? I've been debating those over the XSs or other brands (Crank Bros Candy SLs, Shimano M540s, etc.)

I'm pretty sure he is.

TRaffic Jammer 05-01-06 09:33 AM

The only time I've had troubles coming out of my ATACs are when the cleats are worn and need replacing.
I'm looking at putting a cross style setup on my MTN bike. It doesn't go off road too often and I'm starting to run out of gears.

my $0.02 is that despite the issues i'm having with mine (they are a much older set of aliums) i'd still pick time over those other brands, especially crank bros as the spindles develop play in them far too quickly (they use bushings and not bearings), times seem to last longer and are easily overhauled with an allen key.

TRaffic Jammer 05-01-06 09:38 AM

I love my times and will never switch.
Kick to clean them, stupid simple mech, and they last forever.

What is with that fairy??? I got 2 flats this past weekend, and discovered my commuter has a slow leak in the rear this morning. What a pain.

you must be on office time: everyone here seems to be grabbing their lunch bags at ten to twelve. i've barely eaten breakfast by then!

eyefloater 05-01-06 10:14 AM

If I get lunch down by 3pm it's an early day. Decide on your lunch time, I'll wander down for whenever.

operator 05-01-06 10:22 AM

Seconded. I love mine as well. The comment about Crank Bro's and loose spindle's is right on as well. I recommend spending the extra dough on the adjustable tension version if you are going ATAC. I love being able to crank em down and when they get older (mine are 3 years old) the bars do start to get some play. When they do you can just crank down the tension a bit and the play disappears. New cleats would almost certainly help yer unintended disengagement as well.

that's what i was thinking but i understand the general wisdom goes that older cleats make it more difficult to disengage, or is that just shimano?

TRaffic Jammer 05-01-06 11:46 AM

As it wears, it can't hold the bar as well. Ah the simplicity of Times.

i suppose that makes sense; for some reason i rememeber having a pair of times that i trouble disengaging from. the cleats i have on there now i got in the fall and i rode them through the winter. i guess they've given up the ghost.

operator 05-01-06 12:14 PM

Which building are you working in Somnambulant?
