Update on my lost&found gps. I think I posted already (and definitely told some of you in person) that after losing my Garmin Edge 305 at the Canada Cup @ Hardwood, someone returned it and it's being shipped back to me.

Anyhoo... one of the times I crashed there was a photographer about 5' away. I thought it might be Jon Safka of cyclingphotos.ca fame, but no photos of me turned up on his site. It still said "UPDATES SOON" on the site though, so I thought I'd send Jon a quick email to check if it was him who was standing there. His response?

"I think I was there for that, but you were definitely not the only one to go down there! Later races too. It was a good spot. Not everyone wants bad moments captured on camera! What jersey were you wearing/bike etc so I can have a look. I hardly ever get around to putting all the photos up so I always welcome requests! Someone lost a gps unit while having a lie down there. I returned it to the Hardwood office after the race. "

Yaaay! It would absolutely suck to have lost that to the bushes/sticky-fingered people.

*glances at iherald's post*

Speaking of which, fun tales of the 24hr race, anyone? Let's hear 'em!

I am getting tired of people saying they are tired of the term "fixie". :twitchy:

Also thank you Go transit for cancelling two of the last trains out of union. And thank you TTC for having major "service disruptions" the TWO times i've taken it in the last 4 weeks.

**** you, and **** public transit.

Score on the Garmin return, Wes - nice deal for sure.

Took my road bike out for a quick blast across the lake then upto midtown and back. Being able to change gear is a radical novelty I indulge in now that I've both geared/non-geared bikes - the lack of backpedal speed control in traffic caught me unawares a couple of times. Most of all scary was being on the fixie (:p ;)) last night after the road ride, looking back at the road thinking I'd dropped something and trying to coast... I got a much sharper reminder this time and it frankly scared the poop out of me in a pretty serious way.

Re: fixie/fixed/fix/FG - we all know what it means, it's just a term - shortening is the way of the English language *shrug*

I used to always just loathe the term "electronica" ... which has thankfully fallen out of the common vernacular.

There were a bunch of B.F. folk at the 24. Nerdsgirth's team had a really good showing coming in 9th is their category. Our team collectively had many podiums including sweeping the mixed tag-team category. Mine and Wes' team came in 83rd out of 127 teams. I did a 55:52 for my best lap. I had never busted the hour mark in a 24 so I was pretty stoked. It rained on us pretty heavily from 11 till about 3. The course was a super slick mess by the time I got on it for my night lap. Wes came in right before me after his first lap with a 1:02...which was pretty awesome considering the conditions and unfamiliarity with the course. By the time I got 5 km into it...about midnight...the course was completely soaked and really slick. The double track was fine but the single track had tons of rooty and off-camber sections which became really tricky to ride due to the rain. At one point I had both brakes lock up on a little downhill switchback and had both tires completely skidding. Years of riding in the snow kept me from crashing.:thumb: I pulled off a 1:10.
One of the fast kids from our elite team continued the Angry Johnny tradition of doing a lap in the team issue tuxedo thong and circa 1982 pink and white time trial helmet. The thong was waaay to small. Always a crowd favorite. He got the $100 donated from the team and kept his timing chit in his sock.
Maki proved the usefulness of the camp diet. This consisted of various bagged snacks, beer and whiskey. He smoked off a 56 minute lap..at night....in the pouring rain... proving that these food and beverage groups are indeed worthy of consideration.
In his first race ever "24Hr Tony" had his main lighting system go down 1/3 the way in. He struggled on in the rain with his secondary 4 watt LED...woefully inadequate for the conditions. When he reached the next marshall station the guy wanted to pull him off the course. He told the guy that now that his glasses were fogged up because he got stopped, would the marshall be so kind as to tell him which direction to go. He finished in a sparkling 1:48.
Misfits Cycles had a Disco Party in the middle of the woods all night. They were pretty far out on course and had the D.J. spinning and a nice little lighting set-up. Props to them for that.

Next time say "that is" instead...

RE: 24 hrs
Team snow (also known as super consistency) place 8th in the 6-10 team cat. Pulled a 56min (evening),116 (pouring rain 1:30am mudbath),100 (7am nice and fast). We were missing two of our regular ringers. Not bad for more than doubling the amount of times I have ridden off road this summer. The Fisher Sugar is getting retired after 7 years of great service. I will post some pics when someone with a camera posts them.

thinking the same thing! ^^^^

Over-priced but nice Benotto frame/fork with potential for price negotiation

Sounds like good times (or survival, at least) were had by all. I was wondering how you guys would fare in that rain. Congrats on all your respective badasseries. ;)

Very nice! My buddy Sean picked himself up a golden one the other day... Beautiful little bike!

I picked up a set of these bad boys (with chainring / bottom bracket) last night;

I'd been running some cheapo FSA (RPM) cranks since my wreck in October and these seriously make a huge difference in terms of stiffness - very, very nice cranks.

Dude.. I was just thinking about selling my totally unused set of Black 75s. D'oh! On that note, if anyone wants to buy a set of Black 75s that have been installed, but never had a chain on 'em, let me know. I'm not 100% certain I'm gonna sell 'em yet, however.

Doh! What length?

Ah well, I probably paid less that you'd be selling them for anyway. :)

Where has the best selection of MTB/Touring shoes in Toronto? I need something SPD-compatible and that could be okay to walk around for short periods... Urbane doesn't really have much in the way of shoes.
