Damn, I cannot recall and the bike is not here. I will have to check it when I get home....and hopefully when I get home the cranks will be here so I can put it together and go out for a ride.

How did you get into the Kids 12 and under category? :)

Did y'all see this?

The Toronto Police issued the following news release today:
"Safe Cycling - Share the Responsibility" campaign results
Wednesday, June 25, 2008 - 7:30 AM
Traffic Services
416-808-1900
On Sunday June 22, 2008, the Toronto Police Service concluded their one-week "Safe Cycling – Share the Responsibility" campaign.
See previous release.
Officers issued 6,671 tickets to motorists and cyclists who were found committing offences. Of the tickets issued:
  • 3,691 tickets were issued to motorists for offences such as opening vehicle doors improperly, and failing to yield to cyclists,
  • 2,076 tickets were issued to cyclists for disobeying traffic signals and failing to yield to pedestrians,
  • 904 tickets were issued to cyclists for bicycle equipment offences,
  • 113 parking tickets were issued for parking in designated bike lanes,
  • 1,891 motorists and cyclists were cautioned with respect to a variety of related offences,
  • 89 bike rodeos/lectures involving 3,410 participants were held across the city.
The Toronto Police Service reminds motorists of the dangers of opening car doors in the path of cyclists, and the importance of checking blind spots prior to making a turn, especially for large trucks. All road-users have a responsibility to share the road equally by driving safety, riding responsibly, playing smart, and obeying all the rules of the road.

That's what I'm sayin!!! Everybody loves a rodeo!!!

I will say, I'm super annoying knowing that a good number of those "bicycle equipment" infractions means "no bell" which is obviously total horse**** but I was surprised to see how many tickets were given out to drivers. What would be interesting to see would be whether or not those were actually for infractions that put cyclists at danger or if they just attributed any old ticket to that number.

Well, this driver ran a red and there wasn't a cyclist there but had there been a cyclist passing through the intersection he/she'd have gotten smoked! Put that in the "our blitz wasn't just to target cyclists" category.

exhibitx 06-25-08 05:29 PM

more importantly, now that this blitz is over, we can get back to unsafe cycling

The *best* news is they didn't catch the ones who ARE actually riding at unsafe speeds blowing stop signs/red lights. They caught all the slow people going through residential/slow areas for stop sign infractions etc. One of our customers got a ticket on a test ride.

Oh the irony.

lol - harsh, but still funny :p I was at Big Fat Burrito when an older dude on a mountain bike got hauled over for going down Augusta the wrong way (like *everyone* else does) - the cops were in an unmarked minivan.

Would be interesting to see how skewed the numbers are, but I guess it's encouraging nonetheless, too bad they can't/don't enforce the stuff as more of a routine.

I also wish I wouldn't have to read "Senior in hospital after being struck walking against a light late at night" stories that seem to be ever so popular now  I jaywalk like everyone else does, but **** people keep your wits about you - you don't walk against a light at 10:30pm when you're 75 and traffic is evidently still flowing.

Nice going Wes! :D

Bahahahahaha, how did I not DFL?! I missed the start, stopped and chatted for 5 minutes about some guy's worn out cassette, hit up the porta-jon after a lap ... hell, I went back to the van and refilled my water even! My lap times speak a lot more to how I rode than my placing does.

11th, woo! Next time I'll do my best to crack the top 10 in my cat as well. ;)

A friend of mine was in BFB and saw similar events. Personally, I only saw one cop hiding behind a post on Queen West. And yeah, heads up for some folks. In the last couple of days I've seen young teens swerving and grooving around in front of traffic that made me cringe. Not particularly good riders, just totally oblivious. I thought one chimp was going to get greased.

Speaking of which, you were in a category racing against geared guys. Although the singlespeed category is apparently FAST!

Well, I don't have calipres but I snugged the cranks up purty good and went for a quick 15km ride and they are quiet, quieter than the 600 road cranks that I was using. So I am a happy camper.

Just curious, but if my rear wheel/cog set-up makes noise as I pedal, is that a bad thing? I thought it was supposed to be quiet... Got a new FG build and it sounds noisier than I expected, but then again, it's my first fixed ride.

jet sanchEz 06-25-08 09:39 PM

Hrm, are the pitch of the chain and cog the same? I think that may have a lot to do with it. My Miche wheelset has a Dura Ace cog with the 3/32 pitch and it makes more noise because the chain is 1/8------or do I have that backwards? One is thicker than the other and it can create noise, that is my point :)
