I got my "application" turned around to me in like, a day. The only question is are we to leave this thread and it's 16 thousand posts for a new forum? :S

somnambulant 07-03-08 10:18 AM

Why bother? I'd rather use a public forum that allows for people to lurk and eventually join in on the posting/fun. Having a private forum with an 'application' would greatly reduce that.

Plus, yeah, nearly 1650 pages in it seems wrong to abandon this thread. :)

Yes, you would. The best part is that the fancier the bike you buy, the huger the discount percentage off retail. It'd be stupid NOT to buy the SL version! :)

Thanks for the segue I don't post much here but enjoy reading for the perspectives on urban riding! Plus, I was going to ask if anyone here knows a messenger that rides a geared KHS. Yesterday that guy went all in, head to head in a game of chicken against a bus in the northbound diamond lane on Bay near Gerrard, and won. Bus driver hit the brakes hard. Normally I always contradict knee-jerk opinions from motorists about renegade cyclists because by and large the cyclist usually finds a legitimate gap in the traffic, but this move really took the cake. I have never seen anything like it.

*fingers crossed for test ride action*

Yes, we get enough new folks here to warrant keeping this thread running and lurkers abound, I'm sure. Although I did sign up to check it out, I'm less inclined to make any real contribution to it. Besides, all the cool people are already here.

Agreed. I like the idea of new people coming into the fold (I'm still really ****ing new compared to a lot of people who've been posing here for a couple YEARS), and lurking a public forum is a great way to glean helpful information without having to double post stuff in multiple locations. Plus, this forum already rocks so why switch it up, right?

duppy.conqueror 07-03-08 11:10 AM

OT: Metal Gear solid 4 is pure badness

shapelike 07-03-08 11:10 AM

Maybe Rob's just feeling like he needs a back-up forum after his recent bannage.

I'm fine w/ the thread we have. BF.net pulls in a lot of people to begin with and I think that's an easy way for new riders not "in the know" yet to find the rest of the Toronto locals. If a new site was started, how would you go about advertising it to people? "toronto fixed gear" (sans quotes) doesn't return this thread with any efficiency so if someone wants to get their SEO on with a new domain maybe that would make it a more viable option.

Pssh, I've been posting in the Toronto Fixed thread for years w/ no fixed gear bike.

nerdsgirth 07-03-08 11:36 AM

Who set it up? (the new site?) oh rob?

cavit8 07-03-08 11:45 AM

The confirmation email I got was from Gerald Gaunty

Flimflam 07-03-08 11:46 AM

Paging Dr. Freud! lol

I signed up, but as there's little action there and this place is what it is, I'd still come here anyway so *shrug* I also thought the closed registration process was a bit odd/elitist.

Watched Breaking Away last night, quite fun even with the terrible acting in places :) SS with only a coaster brake looked like danger, though ;)

aren't the somas (rush) made with 631 tubes? that would be a selling point if i were in the market for a new frame.

Yeah I think it is called the "P6" or something. It's kind of weird that when the R3's came with FSA seatposts, they had a reasonable amount of setback. When we started shipping 'em with Syntace posts, all of a sudden no setback. It does make a difference! I guess it's a preference thing anyway riding style/bike fit/saddle choice etc.
