Im having a beer with what seems to be a chipped shin and a happy sense of all being well with the world. Trail season is the best time of year, I just need greaves. search for some of his posts - you will be entertained. |
He was crossing Canada after a long ride from Vancouver to San Francisco then Van to Toronto when he was struck and killed by a motorist who drifted onto the shoulder of the road at Brooks, Alberta
His blog is up here: http://thedoublecross.blogspot.com/ |

It's either that or I'm just going to go out and punch a cabbie in his honour. |
i think that's a great idea. i wasn't there last year because i was coming back from a trip out east -- missed the ride by two hours.
|
I'm obviously in. And yeah, I'm pretty sure Thoby and their parents live in the UAE.

Damn, the beaches used to be so cool. There used to be a Coney Island style amusment park complete with pier out there. i'm in for a ride for charlie, never knew him, but we should keep his memory alive for sure. |
Well that was a pretty nice ride. Caught flimflam along Queen E, giving a tow to some guy on rollerblades, then rode all the way out to Rouge Hill & back. 75km round trip. Kingston rd is really very nicely paved after Birchmount, but watch out, because between Victoria Park & Birchmount, the road looks like it hasn't been paved in 15+ years...
Oddly, there were more than a few cyclists around Kingston & Lawrence, some riding real high end rigs - Look, etc... |
A ride for Charlie would be nice.

Thanks so much to all of you who've volunteered to help me out with my research (especially without confirming that I'm not doing some sort of crazy electroshock torture thing first!). I'm not sure if I'll need all of you, but I have certain exclusion criteria (i.e. musicianship) and am usually only in the lab during work hours, so I'll do first come first serve based on those factors. I'll get back to all of you in the next week or two. Woo.

I'm currently in the upper Ottawa Valley visiting family for a few days. I went for a cool flight in a friend's plane last night before getting ripping drunk at a great outdoor concert. I've found I can do a lap of the town on my track bike (~10km) without having to deal with a single car most of the time. Pure heaven. I even took a blast down some bad dirt logging roads today - kind of a challenge at speed on a fixed gear. |
Wasn't sure if you recognised me there kergin ;) My buddy/brother-in-law and his girlfriend and I were out, once he let go in that traffic I just had that "race the streetcar" urge ;)
How was the donut? Sorry I flopped on it but booze/incidental happenings/booze happens. I'm definitely in for the Charlie ride, keep us posted. |
didn't go! Rob was out after you, and I'm not one to go in with Roadie scum alone :P Maybe next weekend?
|
i'm sure this has been asked here before but a question to you tech guys: is there a simple way to convert files in itunes to windows media files for upload to a non ipod media player?
|
never met charlie but i would be up for a ride for him.
only if everyone would be ok with that (not sure if you wanna keep it to just his friends or not) |
