It went into the muddy sinkhole and never came out. 1/3 through the first lap even. D'oh!

single speed cross here we come!

TRaffic Jammer 11-17-08 05:51 PM

Yes to Cam re the wheel covers, though I do not do want to use corplas as it's simply too thick for what I want to do.

Yeah, considering that I was *HOPING* for nasty slop to ride in, the SS probably was the better choice. Especially since it also has disc brakes. I'll be bringing BOTH to provincials on Sunday!

I_bRAD 11-17-08 06:26 PM

so what time do these provincials you speak of start at? I assume it's on the east side of the park?

TRaffic Jammer 11-17-08 06:33 PM

I was told 10am and 1pm, though I do not know where they are racing.
The map in Wes's link has them on the Broadview side.
Big plastic cups for the Beer Ups™?

Caira, my 11 year old wants to come too, I'm stoked. We'll more than likely both come on our SSs.

10AM is Master3 Men, Senior3/4 Men and Under 17 M/W 40 minutes. Mike and I race this one.
11:30 is Master2 Men, Master/Elite Women 50 Minutes.
1PM is Senior Elite Men and Master 1 Men. 60 Minutes. All the fastest guys from Ontario plus Wes. :D
We will be working/riding/partying at the park all day and well into the evening on Saturday. We have tents, heaters, BBQ, beverages on site from Saturday morning if anyone wants to stop by. There is talk of a few "Loonie Races" on Saturday if yall want to try a real Cross course for kicks.

Nashbar right now has Campy Centaur carbon cranks on for $150. A good deal I suppose.

If you like square taper, afaik.

tuz 11-18-08 06:47 PM

Any of you fine gentlemen (or ladies) have some North Road/Nitto Albatross/VO tourist handlebars, or know where to get them locally?

something like this:

I have some moustache bar knock-offs from Urbane for trade if interested.

Nothing wrong with square taper. I actually prefer it to External BB. Those cranks with a good Campy BB would last a long time. If I run external next year it will be a Chris King BB or nothing.

somnambulant 11-18-08 07:07 PM

Oh yeah, for sure. I ain't judgin', just uhh.. raising awareness. :)

From my experience with Shimano outboard bearings, I found that grit easily got between the arms and bearing covers, making clicking and/or grinding noises. I haven't heard anything like that from my Campy outboard bearings yet, but that's not to say it won't happen.

Personally, I really like square taper BBs because they seem to spin nicer, and they're easy to remove, clean, etc.. Just like anything else, though, you get what you pay for - OEM RPM BBs are nothing compared to good Shimano or Campy BBs.

While I was coming back from Home Hardware this morning, I got a look at someone riding Surly Cross Check. Those are much nicer bikes in person, IMHO. Wonder how heavy they are.

using this id until my ban is lifted... ssshhh

~Stuart~ 11-18-08 08:19 PM

chris king bb *droooool*

my shimano *external* bb was working great *till the frame died* no noise, and the bearings are still clean (about a year of riding, half of which was in the winter/snow/slush/grit/bsblacksnowgrit****tystuff)

shapelike 11-18-08 08:21 PM

BB30. Do it. Do it.

~Stuart~ 11-18-08 08:39 PM

/\ you pay for my new frame, and i'll buy the bb

somnambulant 11-18-08 09:13 PM

*huffs some fine Italian tubular glue*

i've got a pair of northroads that i got at urbane but i'm keeping em' 'cause they work real nicely on my city bike. they weren't cheap but they are finished so much nicer than cheap bars i couldn't resist (plus they accept bar end shifters!). just buy them man you won't regret it.

shapelike 11-19-08 07:22 AM

Apparently I'm now racing at 1pm on SUNDAY.

Edit: wrong day.

cavit8 11-19-08 07:58 AM

60 minutes of hell, here you come!

somnambulant 11-19-08 08:02 AM

"Night: Periods of snow. Amount 5 to 10 cm. Wind becoming east 20 km/h overnight. Temperature steady near zero."

Considering temps are supposed to stay low, I'd say we'll be having a snowy CX provincials again, too.

Haha I went to Urbane but they didn't have them (although I didn't ask). They had some Nittos (without the slight forward bend) but they are 50$. Aouch. A friend in the states might bring me the VO ones at 20$.
