This sculpture was made from several dozen bicycles that were connected to each other at the wheel hinge by a simple seperation of the quick release lever that typically allows one to exchange or remove tires. Pretty interesting structure that somehow manages to balance using the seats as feet.

Before I learned to avoid them like they were shooting fire in all directions, I almost got flattened by just about every wheel trans bus I came across. This is funny to see in print

My nemesis is the blue University Hospital Network shuttle bus that travels along College. That thing has tried to kill me countless times. It used to be a short-yellow bus on Harbord, but I usually use College nowadays.

what's cycle therapy ? never heard of it , I rode around the city after work tonight and out bloor/danforth and saw alot of fixed/single speeds , I gave a small wave to each but just got stares, so much for the next generation of riders f*ck um ,,,,,,, so who's going to the race Sat/Sun

Cycle Therapy is on Queen St. E near ... Greenwood? (side street nearby is Winnifred, I believe).

I finally changed my drivetrain over to 1/8" all round and dropped a couple of teeth from my sprocket.
I didn't bother swapping cranks yet but have a Sugino 46T ring on the front and a 15T (Dura-ace) cog on the back. Took it for a quick boot around the block, thing feels *fast* when I put some torque into it.

A gnats pube over 7500km on that original chainring, it's not TOO screwed, but it's got chewed pretty bad by my negligent care - the wheel/cog was used during winter last year on other bikes, so it's seen way more action and neglect. Looks like the chain was on for all but 200km of those 7500 (installed April 21st :O) - so that's fared pretty well considering the use/abuse.

Can't wait to give it a whirl heading up/down Keele tomorrow.

Edit: forgot to mention... MAN my road bike was fun to ride today :D (it's basically on reserve duty only these days)

hey guys, i just found this thread... see fixed and s/s bikes around all the time when i'm out riding or commuting. I usually blast right down yonge st. On a mid-build blue miele with a red TTP.

I'm running a 52T chain rings... and am still debateing my rear cog. Any suggestions?? I don't really care about skidding, but i wanna go fast. I usually ride on my 52 with the 2nd smallest or smallest cog on my rear casssette.

On a side note... has anyone been to the new Dukes location on richmond??

On my road bike I mostly stick to 52:19 or occasionally 52:17 (4th and 5th cog in my cassette) (72.2GI and 80.7GI respectively) so I tried to go with something similar when I put my fixie together. My original 46:17 was 71.1GI and now I'm running a 15T on the back, giving me 80.6 - so I've matched them up fairly well to what I'm used to. This new ratio will likely kick my ass for a bit but I want the training/speed.
I'd say go as close to what you're used to, or a little shorter/smaller if you're starting out riding a fixed gear.

Use the Rabbit Gear Calculator to figure out equivalent ratios with different cogs (called a sprocket in many instances) and chainrings.

I'll be up in north york again today (Keele/Steeles), I rarely ride around downtown as I just pass through (on College typically - I live in Parkdale so use the whole length across to Carlton/Parliament if going east) but feel free to say hi. I rarely see anyone on Keele on a bike at all, it can be a bit of a "run the gauntlet" ride sometimes, usually southbound is more hectic. I'm typically on my black IRO Rob Roy.

We're at 1114 Queen Street East. North side of the road, down the stairs. At this time of year we're basically a repair/service/special project (bike build-ups, custom wheelsets, etc.) shop but in the main season we sell parts/accessories/apparel to utilitarian cyclists and people who ride a ****-tonne because they really enjoy bikes.

Phil's the owner and he comes from a DH/FR/BMX/XC background and has dealt with and grown fed up with a lot of industry bull**** over the years. He may not be the fasted guy to get things done because he's so busy all the time but he also won't give you any BS sales pitch on something just because it's new. John is the head mechanic and comes from a speed skating/track/retrogrouch background. He can make a fiiine ass wheel (be it 404s on CX-Rays or Open Pros on Competitions) and anything vintage is also right up his alley. Meghan's the junior mechanic but she secretly holds the entire shop together. She's always my ace in the hole for when something needs to happen on an impossible timeline. Also, she's a complete genius when it comes to understanding things in a mechanical sense, as in how things go together to work properly. She just *gets* it a lot more than others I've worked with.

I track down weird **** for orders and obsess about bike tech. I also constantly promote 29ers and cyclocross bikes and singlespeeds to whoever will listen. Eventually when the store has a budget for it I'm going to launch a little e-commerce site as well.

cycle therapy is the sh*t! I just ordered everything for my new bike there yesterday and phil is building me a set of wheels. come spring phil will be building up my big dummy. i can't wait! If I HAD to list a con it's maybe that they are almost TOO thorough. if you can call that a fault:D. all around excellent shop. friendly and professional peoples for sure.
