In an attempt to reduce the number of items in my personal bag of excuses, I am in need of a 100mm 17° rise stem with a 26.0mm clamp. I currently have the same thing but 110mm in length. If anyone in the downtown-ish region has one and wants to trade, do speak up. Otherwise I'm just going to do some bargain bin scrounging later on today.

I was at 60" (single speed) last winter (42x18 on 26"). I'll try 63" (40x17) fixed for this one. My commute shortens to 4km x2 in winter.

I have my doubts that my "big" winter boots will fit into any kind of straps, except snowshoe straps. Most of the time I wear garrison boots though, and they're not that much bigger than shoes. I think I'm gonna go with the powergrips.
Thanks for the tips everyone! |

I never see used Cyclocross bikes on CL and they are few and far between on eBay, has anyone got a source for these bikes? CanadianCyclist and PinkBike is good but most of the CX bikes are newish, I want something old and steel like a Marinoni or a Pinarello....
Also, isn't there a MEC bike swap in the autumn? Or is there only the spring one? I wonder what is going on with all those bikes that the cops confiscated from Igor? They must be up for auction sometime, has anyone heard anything lately? Lastly, someone just told me that Johnny Depp will be playing The Riddler in the next Batman. I didn't think they could top Ledger as the Joker but this is a damned good casting choice if you ask me....Phillip Seymour Hoffman is pegged to play The Penguin too, hopefully not in the same movie, I think each actor could carry the movie on their own. |

Anyone have a recommended path to take from York Mills and Leslie to Spadina and Queens Quay? My last trip down Bayview was a nightmare, so I'm planning ahead a bit this time. I was thinking of just shooting across YM to Bayview, down Bayview to Lawrence, down Lawrence to Mt. Pleasant, and then a straight shot down Pleasant to the Quay. Thoughts?

I wouldn't recommend Mt Pleasant as a southbound descent, particularly. It's pretty hairy descending from St. Clair. And Mt Pleasant changes to Jarvis, which isn't the most fun I've had downtown. I'd jut off off west from Mt Pleasant at St. Clair then across to Russell Hill Road. Descend then rIght onto Dupont, left onto St. George and down through Beverly which ends at Queen, I think. You can jump off to Spadina at Dundas or somewhere. They've had some transit work around St. Clair and Avenue so I'm not sure what it's like. An alternate would be to jump off Mt Pleasant at Davisville, head west then turn left into the Park at the stop sign, through the park and down to Kilbarry then west to Russell Hill. If you don't like waiting for the light at Oriole/Avenue (it can take a while), you can skip Kilbarry and head further south to Lonsdale which also hooks up with Russell Hill Road. |
And Russel hill is the most fun way down that hill IMO.

Anyone got an opinion on what a 32h black open pro, laced to a black IRO hub with silver dt comp spokes might be worth used? It's got <3k kms on it.
Edit: Front wheel. |

Has anyone ever had different dropouts welded onto their frame? Was it expensive? The dropouts I have now are really short and it's limiting my gearing options.

anyone notice any GR-9s at any stores lately? Urbane tells me they haven't had em all summer and have no idea when they'll get em again and I want to replace these semi plastic pedals on my bike
|
Anyone have a s/s chain tensioner they want to get rid of?
|
You can have my other doofer if I find out it doesn't work with my new chainring. I'll keep you posted. It is orange.

+1 to Russell Hill Road (grab a copy of the city cycling map, the route Cavit8 mentions is basically the southbound city route from up that way - I've used that and variations of it get up to Yonge/Sheppard and Yonge/Eg a bunch) - it's a great way down, sweet descent. I also like Dupont for traversing the city in that area. I've not much experience specifically with Leslie or York Mills or that particular area.
I came down Dufferin a bit tonight (from Eglinton to St. Clair anyway) - man that stretch is wild and not particularly smooth. Went across St. Clair to Lansdowne and south all the way to just under the bridge south of Dundas - the hill coming down toward Davenport is good practice for braking sans-brakes (and a bit of skiddy skid fun ;)) edit: I ran 42/17 last winter (with platforms, aieeee!) and it was really nice - I think 46/17 as I have now will be fine, but I'm going to hope I can grab a cheap beater and convert it and run a lower gear depending on how the winter seems to take shape. |
that's route 35, i like it a lot
if you go along merton instead of davisville you can hook up with the old railroad trail (cool trail that goes all the way from mount pleasant, almost to dufferin) and go across the bridge and onto killbarry ... from there it's an easy and fast ride into downtown |

wouldn't have known that was your first time, you were doing good you must have me confused with someone else, cus i missed the open net from like 10ft, what, 3 times? lol WAIT!!! pizza pizza now named "Pizza 73". just saw an ad and it had "pizza 73" in like the same style banner as the "pizzapizza" sign, just a different colour (even had the same saying) |
what's wrong with the bayview extension? i understand if the traffic puts you off but i always liked riding down that hill - in fact i hit my all time (recorded) and speed record -76km/hr- going down that hill. however, i would second the suggestion of taking either avenue road, or rusell hill road and heading west in dupont, then south on st george, bike lanes and all
|
any of you dudes have a 130bcd crank you're looking to part with? i need a little something for a winter bike...
