Wetting it up with tri-flow helps, but is a horrible way to deal with a dirty chain... I've just been lazy. Reminds me I need to head to MEC for cleaning fluid.

I'm actually considering gearing up a little bit, 46/17 right now.. Either go to a 47/16 or drop right down to 46/15 (I'd prefer more skid patches and I know I'm too lazy to shift the tyre around). Haven't put much thought into that though. Maybe 48/17 would be OK but I don't want a big jump.. eff, I'll see.

Coming across Lawrence in that wind last night made me glad I hadn't changed it to be honest.

Pyze, hope you heal up fast man, sounded really brutal

Who's got the bestest Kool-Stop for road prices? I need some new brake pads. Barry 9th, coolio!

Flimflam 08-09-08 09:45 AM

I guess that this is true, the only reason I was considering anything other than 3/32 was because the bike came with a track chain. Now that I run a front brake, there really is no reason not to use 3/32----I had always figured that the thicker chain would be better for strength but that is probably not true either.

I'm also interested in any shops that stock Yokozuna pads. They're now using the old Scott-Mathauser formula. I know I can get these online, but if anyone stocks 'em let me know.

kergin 08-09-08 04:59 PM

someone find me last summer. this weather is killer.

cavit8 08-09-08 05:02 PM

No doubt. I was out golfing on the island of course, without any rain gear. I was able to scoop a garbage bag from the Rectory Cafe (thanks guys) so got home relatively dry.

On the way home (of course the rain had stopped but I still had the garbage bag on), I passed a gaggle of fixed gear riders with some of the shiniest bikes I've ever seen. The rims were all different colours, etc. There were probably colours there only bees can see. And they had such a fresh scrubbed look about them. It was great to see young folks who enjoy their bikes that much. I'm sure their nervous look was about the rain getting their bikes dirty than me riding at them wearing a garbage bag.

Lawl, bees.

I have nothing else of note to offer. Except that I am suddenly much poorer. Goooo bike build!

shapelike 08-09-08 05:55 PM

I spent 20 hours laid out in bed with stomach cramps and vomiting. Gooo, Crohn's Disease! WOO!

</feeling better now>

So did anyone check the DNF list (http://velonews.com/results/81485) for the olympic road race? Apparently the temperature/air conditions made for brutal racing.

And WTF is going on with Georgia/Russia?! Did Russia seriously plan an invasion to coincide with the olympics in hopes that the world wouldn't pay attention?

32flavours 08-09-08 06:05 PM

Yikes... burns and vomiting. Not a great day for BFSSFGTO. Heal up, dudezorz!

~Stuart~ 08-09-08 08:08 PM

why do people box? "here lets punch each other, but since we might hurt eachother lets wear pads... but that pads mean we have to punch harder"

come on, man up, i want knife fights. first to draw blood from the torso wins

:D

I think I'm going to start making a point of riding my bike at 3am at least once a week. One of the nicest rides I've ever had.

kergin 08-10-08 09:33 AM

enjoy the light show?

shapelike 08-10-08 10:02 AM

I was up at the time and heard it from College/Ossington.

Are you at the store this week? I want to get the bike 'fitted' before I get the steerer tube cut.

Strangely enough, I rode home from DVP/Eg at 3:30, getting to the west end for ~4 and home for 4:15, I didn't hear/feel/see a single thing, had no idea about it until my buddy in Ottawa told me via TXT message later on. I was on College so might've just been below the sightline or something, plus it's not like I was looking north west for anything :p

Also +1 on bringing last years summer... I seriously feel shafted, things looked so promising at the start of July, and now it's just been crud. I come from the apparent land of rain and ****e weather, and I've never had a summer like this even back home... Boo-urns to you, Al Gore! ;) :p

Work for me today, I guess I'll roll out soon.. fenders firmly on still :(

You could see the meteors in the city? That is surprising, I figured the lights would make them hard to see...I am sorry I missed it, will they be visible tonight too?

The earth plows through a stream of debris, so meteor showers peak at intensity on a certain day, the days leading up to it and after are increasing/decreasing in numbers as expected. Around a week before/after is typical.

Light pollution just makes it harder to see the faint meteors - there are plenty of them that are bright enough to be seen from the worst metropolitan areas in the world.
