It cracks me up sometimes when I recount how much stuff I've eaten during/after a ride.
Before ride:
-1 banana
-0.5 PB&J sandwich
right after:
-1.5 PB&J sandwiches
-1 can of root beer
-1 slice of banana bread with chocolate chips
-some misc fruit/berries
when I got home:
-1 glass of chocolate soy milk
-1 banana
went out for a walk with the missus:
-2 veggie samosas
-a waffle cone w/ 1 scoop of 'caribou tracks' icecream at The Big Chill
-an iced latte
dinner:
-some dill pickle potato chips
-a ribeye steak and a "baked" (on the grill) potato w/ cheddar & sour cream
-1 can of coke
while watching an episode of Dexter:
-a bowl of vanilla icecream
and a whole lotta water.
Now I'm hoping the rain dies down so I can do a road ride with Daniel-san.

It would seem that if you have had a bike stolen in Toronto, it has passed through Igor's hands. Pretty sad, when you think about it.
No problem. Sorry I haven't replied to all PMs. The list so far is:

we need pics of the cranks mounted on a bike in the next 48 hours... no squirreling parts away... *stern look, that slowly turns into Blue Steel*
Ourys, wondering if anyone who works at a store has them in White (or knows if they come in white) I have them in black here at mec, but i want some white ones (i know they wont stay white)
Yup, a whole pack of those things... then an omelet my neighbor brought over (parental units out of town for a couple weeks, and she thinks i will starve if she doesn't feed me... i'm not gonna tell her i can cook
), and some home made bread (her again) then some sausages, then a nap... followed by some apple juice, a steak, a salad, another carb bar, some M&M's, and 2 beers and a game of risk... and some chips... and some pasta... world domination really takes it out of you
so... i went to get breakfast today, and the girl behind the counter was having trouble getting a bun into a bag, and as shes doing it she says "its too big, it wont fit".... and i was gonna say "thats what she said" but i started laughing too hard.... instead i just said "relax, it will fit"

urbane usually has a good selection of colors for the oury grips, i think curbside and bikes on wheels also carries them
i got my white ones at urbane, but that was last year

Indeed. Live feeds have been a lot better this year so I've been able to keep up with things on a daily basis. As for the race and today's stage, I definitely like where this is going. *wink, nudge, etc.* I'm still a bit bummed about Robbie not taking any stages so far, but I'm still rockin' the "OFFICIAL SUPPORTER: ROBBIE MCEWEN" jacket (well no, but I would).
PS. I was out shopping for magazines w/ the lady friend today and saw this across from the bike magazines:

How awesome is that?! And ya, that's the rider's face.
PPS. New purchase - Crumpler Mahoubar backpack:
My initial impression is that it's pretty nice ... sternum strap, removeable waist strap, 6 or so pockets, easy to do shoulder checks even with it's stuffed full. It's not "messenger" sized, but for my day-to-day use/commuting it looks about right.

Mechanically inclined people: how did you learn to wrench? Just bit by bit? Did you learn from others? Trial and error? Or did you find a good book or website (besides Sheldon's site and parktool.com)? I want to learn more.

I am not mechanically inclined but there are a lot of Youtube videos that show most of the major things that you can do on your own. The Parktools site and Sheldon's site are great but it is easier for me to do it if I see it being done the correct way.

take it apart, figure out how it works. Fix the broken part, put it back together. remember what you learned.

1. Park Tool website/Big Blue Book
2. Barnett's Manual (available in .pdf form)
3. Manufacturers' documentation for the components on your bikes
4. Years of experience and an innate mechanical aptitude
5. Ability to separate good advice from bad
6. A mentor who is good at being a mechanic as well as being a teacher

I regularly check out Parktools website for basic things. Barnett's has some demo chapters available on line https://www.bbinstitute.com/manual.htm

i like the park website and all but i'm inclined to support the brad method; at least that's how i leaned to do a lot of repairs. just spend many hours in the garage taking crud apart and making sure there's no extra crud at the end...

try it, lefty loosey, righty tighty, the rest is taught by experience, and mistakes.
many. many mistakes.
IGORZ UPDATEZ!!!
So Ive made a friend of one of the cops cleaning out the shop, I met him as they were hauling some out this week when I went by to see whassup with the shop. Tomorrow there is to be more viewing at 9 Hanna Ave, same times. They are going to pull all the bikes from his shop over the next few weeks, so keep checking back, showings every weekend for a WHILE are in order, this batch was just the immediately more expensive looking ones, our beat up fixed rides may be yet to come.
Ill let you know as I find out more. Oh and with wrenching, if you dont know, ask. Its easy to break **** when you start diddling around inside more complicated parts. And keep a white sheet of paper handy when disassembling things with little tiny parts, helps you see them, find them, and you can use a pencil to make notes beside them! Saved my ass so many times. Damn ball bearings and their crap.

but i did see 5 or 6 people as they ran over and exclaimed "this is my bike!! yes!!!" and that was pretty awesome.
