"How come Bart gets a therapist? I'm the one with stigmata!"

I've come to accept the fact that my floor pump isn't accurate (my last two rides in the Don have been at "20PSI" front and rear on tubed clinchers). I'm guessing there's no way to adjust the guage on the pump (one of the Topeak Joe Blows) so my next option is to use an accurate pressure gauge and compare that against what the pump is reading. So ... anyone have a pressure gauge that they know/think is accurate that I could borrow sometime?

By the by, does anyone want to make 80 bucks participating in a completely non-invasive EEG psych experiment? Lemme know.

When would it be?

I'll do it. It'll have to be the week after next if you're still putting electrodes on people's heads then i'll do it! Things sure have come a long way. Man when I was your age we thought that inside a person's head was an actual melon! :50:

cavit8 08-01-08 08:19 AM

I'll do it too. PM sent. And you are a *real* doctor. MD is a first professional degree :p. Yeah Dan, I can hear your joints creakin' from here....

Flimflam 08-01-08 08:39 AM

I'll do it as well, depending on time/day.

Donut sunday start time? I might have another rider who's interested... what's the pace likely to be like? He's in shape, just not 'bike' shape so much.

32flavours 08-01-08 08:39 AM

Schedule's flexible. Probably first and third week of September? Or second and fourth. It's two 3 hour sessions 2 weeks apart. And I kind of misspoke on the 80 dollars, it's actually 70. You get paid 10 dollars for every hour in the lab (plus transportation) and I've been getting faster recently. :) My first lucky (unlucky?) participant took me 5.5 hours to run, but I'm now down to 2.5 hours/person. Woo!

Uh.... bikessssss?

Flimflam 08-01-08 08:43 AM

Only $70 now?! IT'S A TARP! ;)

Should we be PMing you, or are you going to deal with that? To be on topic - is there good bike parking available? :)

Also, 'grats on the PhD too. I couldn't stand University long enough to even go for my MEng.

edit: lol shapelike ;)

32flavours 08-01-08 08:45 AM

It works just like that ^, except with more knives and less care.

Err... yeah- if you're interested PM me some contact info and I'll give you more details.

BOOM!

MattRennick 08-01-08 09:54 AM

PS - I know that I just posted a flyer for it yesterday so I'm not trying to spam the forum but in case anyone is on the fence for hitting up that race tonight - it seems like it's going to be a really good / fun time... the race is really designed for cool guys, not coolguys. Y'heard?

Here are some details from Ben:

"I just want to reiterate that this thing is really all in the name of fun, there are going to be prizes for the typical things like first, second and third, but we will also be giving out some good stuff to people that fulfill other objectives too, ones that the typical racer-types may not want (or be able) to. I've gotta say that riding in a race like this is way more fun that sitting around waiting for people to cross the finish line, so if you're thinking about entering - please do!"

Prizes:
Bikes on Wheels is supplying a nice PAC bag, some tires, tools, grips, and other stuff.
Crumpler threw in at least a bag and some radio, er cell phone holders, and probably some tt protectors
Manic Coffee has given some product
I have an original team Peugeot/Michelin wool jersey from the 60's I will be giving up if there's enough racers to warrant it.
There are also a ton of other little things.

Oh, I don't think so... I can find out but I don't think any of the guys organizing it would care either way... i think they just want people to come out, ride bikes and have fun.

Hrm, the psychological test is interesting, is he going to play the insanity card? For what it is worth, he always came off as completely freakin' insane to me....but I'm no doctor. 32flavs, any input on Igor's mental state of being? ;)

Sounds good. I just checked the weather and as per the rest of the summer there's a chance of rain, but if the weather holds I'd like to come out and ride.

Just got word today that my uncle, age 66 (Mom's younger sister's husband) died this morning from lung cancer. Time between diagnosis and death = 15 days.

Don't smoke, kids.

freecycle 08-01-08 11:12 AM

condolences krusty, did you know him well?

Flimflam 08-01-08 11:16 AM

15 days, holy crap... Sorry to hear that, krusty... that's brutal. My condolences. :(

Thanks. Yes, they lived in Ottawa and we were only about 2 hrs away. He had 4 daughters, about the same ages as my brothers and I, so we did see him frequently. One of his daughters is the same age as me (45), and she has been a grandmother for 6 years now!
