Hi

I have few things im curious to see what the interest in is....

One is a event planned for October friday 24th you can see the post on craigslist, sorry I just posted it so the link is not up yet. If there is enough interest I will secure the venue and how you say "Party on?"
I jsut thought we could use something fun for a change, since this year has been kind of sucky doom and gloom.. The title of the posting is ALLEY CAT RACE/BRAND LAUNCH PARTY/AUCTION/HALLOWEEN COSTUME EVENT

The other thing im looking at doing is offering a group buy on some fixed gear frames and parts
The frames might be $180-$150 with forks, and I would possibly offer a discount on parts as well.

However
As you may know however when you do a group buy on an item (frames especially) you may not see the item for a few months (3 to 4 perhaps)

If you are interested in either or both drop me a private message on here or email me via polly@cyclescanada.com

I hope everyone is well.. toodles

1. Can you elaborate on the type of frame, specs, etc.

2. Call me jaded and cynical but why does this event feel like a thinly veiled excuse for selling something? Correct me if I'm wrong (hopefully I am)

Coaster brake? Ai yai yai!

TRaffic Jammer 10-15-08 11:14 AM

death trap death trap death trap... I'm picturing getting all wound up in traffic and then trying to skid to a stop on 23's, with no help from a front brake,... in the rain.

iherald 10-15-08 11:35 AM

TJ: 60% turnout? Wasn't it 59.1%? :)

TRaffic Jammer 10-15-08 11:40 AM

Traffic Jammer rounds up to even numbers to be able to do the math.

:) and speaks about himself in the third person apparently.

First time for everything, wanted to try it on , it felt weird so I put it back on the rack.

to answer 2: the email address sounds errily familiar to the guy that actually already has a bike shop (or had) and is selling off a lot of gear, occasionally rebuilding bikes for sale, and recently had a few brooks saddles up on craigslist for $89.99, flyers, b77, etc.

i'd hope he is going to be launching something, or relaunching his shop, cuz toronto could always use another LBS, but i have seen more than 1 conversion, fixie, numerous fixed wheelsets all from the same seller on craigslist.

not that its a bad thing, but im just sayin

TRaffic Jammer 10-15-08 11:53 AM

I know Polly has been wanting to bring the shop back to life as it were, I hope this is the Brand Launch he's speaking of.

It looks like it could be fun but yeah, a front brake would be a good idea. I have an old Raleigh cruiser with a coaster brake and I love riding it, but only in good weather.

Yea, a cruiser is a whole different beast in terms of position and just how hard it would be to wind up to speed comparable to that of a track bike. I'll coaster brake on a cruiser with nary a concern. Nice lookin' 'Noni though.

"NEW. Just finished build, rode 3 kms. On to next project. No tire kickers." I see.... 'I built it, scared myself sh*tless, and am selling this thing.'

Wild that someone would put so many nice parts and spend so much on a bike that fundamentally sucks because of the way it's set up

tuz 10-15-08 12:06 PM

And I think you can get a new 'noni pista with a Miche group for the asking price.

Heh, sounds about right.

And, for the record, I go damned fast on my cruiser ;)

jet sanchEz 10-15-08 12:22 PM

Yep, I saw a 'Noni for $1350+taxes, so that is pretty much $1500.....

Tuz, what is your new yellow bike? The seat cluster looks interesting...

TRaffic Jammer 10-15-08 12:25 PM

 I was about to add that you Jet, most likely do scare the poop outta yourself on the cruiser.

tuz 10-15-08 02:03 PM

Hey Jet, it's a Gios Compact. Cool details of construction and interesting geometry (it's... well compact: steep angles and short chainstays/wheelbase. We'll see how it handles)

Here's the seat cluster :p

and those weird dropouts

Take it easy on that bike. My buddy had the same frame, used it only as his "Sunday" bike...and busted the drop-out off. He still has it if you ever need spare bolts.

Speaking of which.. my friend Tom's new build: http://www.flickr.com/photos/negativ...7607650635241/

It actually started life as a road frame, but he had it modded with brazed-on canti bosses, custom paint+decals, internal cable routing, and a bling build.

Oh... at least I hope only the dropout broke instead of the frame. Perhaps the only advantage of this silly contraption. Thanks :)

It's Polly and the house brand he wants to start up are the Zombie frames that are on CL everynow and again. I bought a Flyer from him a few weeks ago and he was telling me about it.

kylehutton 10-15-08 04:03 PM

does anyone have an 18t cog they'd be willing to trade for a 15t?
