i miss you bike. so so... so much.

I took this picture because i had just came out of the movies and found a martini glass next to my front wheel with a tire lever in it. My friend and I went out for sushi after the movie and I locked my bike up outside of the restaurant. Halfway through dinner this guy walks in (eating a fresh avacado) and says "hey man, did you get that lever?" weird.

I rolled the dice a few times and I lost :p

Quick question: why are Velocity Aerohead rims built of fail? I've got a road wheelset built on Aerohead/OC rims running 28/24 with radial in the front and 2X in the rear, and they're nothing but crap. Constantly out of true, FFS.

I guess there's a reason people always gravitate towards Mavic rims and Ksyrium wheelsets: its a safe bet. Everything else is just too sketch.

Anyone considering the new MacBooks: just do it up. They're better in every way that matters. Now for 4 hours of sleep.

I've heard nothing but good things about the aeroheads. I don't think a rim would necessarily cause a wheel to go out of true. Who built 'em?

Initially, Mike Garcia @ Odds & Endos in Pinellas Park, FL. That was less than a year ago. Shortly after getting them, I had one of my Rubinos un-hook from the rear rim, and that hoop went completely out of true, so I had John at CT do what he could with it. It still has a slight wobble, and the tension isn't uniform, but it hasn't gotten worse; kudos to John for that. Later on, I was mowed down by a car, which destroyed the front wheel, but I tried to re-use the hub. I had Odds & Endos send me a new Aerohead rim and 24 Wheelsmith DB14 spokes and took the thing to La Bicicletta for wheel build. Since then, the thing just hasn't stayed true. I would fault La Bicicletta, but given my previous experience with the rear rim, combined with their caution against the strength (they essentially said the rims are too weak), and I've got to throw in the towel on Velocity...

At this point, I'm riding them in a "manageable-untrue" state, but in the future, I'd seek some Mavic or Fulcrum wheels. If I were to co custom again, it wouldn't be anything less than 28 spokes, 2X or 3X.

and the look of amazement re: iro frames.. woah.. totally makes me wonder about that dude with his for sale for only $1400...

DT hubs, spokes, rims, or whole wheels? I don't know if this set is salvageable, but if I'm getting it re-built, I might as well shell out for John's or Wil's work.

I just pulled apart my D.T. hubs the other day....with zero tools...after 1 1/2 years of constant use....as good as it was when new. Their rims are top notch as well....the 2 sets I have have taken all kinds of abuse but have never been trued and are still perfectly straight and round. I have never heard a bad thing about anything they make. A bit more coin but well worth it.

Word. I'll soon have my 3rd DT hubset. Two of them built on Mavic OpenPro rims, new ones on Mavic Reflex rims. All with DT spokes. I ride the **** out of them, on and off road, and they've all treated me well. 32-hole (2x/3x) for all, except for one front wheel which is a 28h (that I bought 2nd hand).

That said, all the Mavic factory built stuff is pretty bomb-proof as well.

so im taking the bb out this morning (its a hollowtech II) and the left side pops off no problem. then i go for the right side, and after reefing on it for 30min (bb tool in vice, frame on bb tool and hanging off the frame... im 170lb and i had about 60cm of levrage on it) i started to take the vice out of the work bench. i broke an 8mm allen key (for one of my hollowtech tools) and bent the other tool. and the frame is still holding on tight. looks like the whole bb casing is rusted out, and the bb was cross threaded AND no grease. -1000x10^99999999 to broadway for that less then classy performance.


any store in town got a hollowtech II road bb in stock for cheap?

I don't want to sound like a ****bag, but this is why I like doing work myself, except when its just out of my technical abilities (wheel building). Sure you may not have some tools, but I'm sure anyone here would gladly lend you tools.

Perhaps stating the obvious, but you know the right cup is left hand threaded, right? It threads in counter-clockwise and out clockwise.

this may have been brought up before but does IRO sell frames and forks seperate?
