Rofl ihearld ...

tdot-miele 04-25-09 08:11 PM

that's too bad.. i've had nothing but good things to sat about SP... they're usually pretty good. But i've only ever dealt with them for parts/acc

tdot-miele 04-25-09 08:12 PM

so i was late for CM last night and ended up riding past everyone in the opposite direction at yonge and dundas ha ha ha... then some crack head pointed out "all my bike friends are going the other way"

jet sanchEz 04-26-09 09:50 AM

That sucks about the poor treatment at Sweet Pete's iherald, I hope it didn't turn your friend off of spending her cash on a bike. Definitely try another store, I cannot think of who else sells Konas but has she thought about a Specialized Dolce? They are women-specific and Sporting Life has a pretty good stock of bikes and they have a pretty good reputation for service...

No, but we were told that Kona makes crappy road bikes. So we were shown a Giant which we were told was much better (same price). The Lisa has Ultegra/105 this bike had Tiagra/Sora components. So I bring this up, and the guy says "well this bike has a better geometry".

Obviously, geometry is based upon each riders body. So I don't know how one bike necessarily has a 'better geometry". So I say "can you order in the Lisa? What's the lead time?" and was told "they don't make that bike anymore". I handed over the print out showing the 2009 Lisa RD, and he walked away (not to go check stock, just walked away).

I am not saying Sweet Petes is a bad store, but holy crap I was shocked at that. I've worked retail and sometimes it sucks. But when a customer comes in with a specific request, and you sell that bike, it's hard to imagine an easier sale. Needless to say, she decided she won't be buying anything at that store.

This is really surprising. SP is the second closest shop to me, so I go there for parts and service pretty regularly. The only "issues" I can think of are: 1) going on a sunny weekend; 2) not dealing with one of the permanent/regular staff. Neither of these are your fault and don't excuse the crappy service...

The only other Kona shop that comes to mind right now is Solutions. Maybe Dukes also sells the odd Kona model here and there?

FWIW, that Kona is a great value, so I hope things work out for your roomie.

I had a weird bike-thing happen as well....

Last night I rode my Fuji down to meet some friends for drinks in the club-district (don't ask me why but my friends love people-watching and, as cheesy as club-land can be, it is crazy-good for people-watching) and I locked it up within eyeshot and we sat on a patio and had some pints. At about 1am, a whole bunch of very hoochy'd-out girls were taking photos of themselves in all sorts of "sexy" poses just near the bike rack and one of them had the awesome idea to pose next to my bike. And then she had to take it to the next level and straddle the bike and then all her friends thought it was a great idea too so at least 3 girls wearing next-to-nothing were rubbing themselves all over the seat, top-tube and, believe it or not, even the front wheel (:twitchy:).

It was a little odd and if I thought they were going to damage the bike, I would have stopped them but yeah, I think my bike was sexually assaulted last night.

Sounds sort of like to action that went on at the Feminist Porn Awards I was catering friday night. Lets just say that when one girl won her award two of her friends decided to show their support by joining her on stage and pay some lip service to both sides of the fence, so to speak. One of the better events I've worked.

The LISA is a great deal for a road bike in that price range. The Dolce is also a good pick but in my opinion (and we sell both brands) the LISA is a far better value. Kona doesn't make bad road bikes....they just don't focus as much on road as Giant or Specialized. Give me a call tomorrow and I will see how much time it would take to get one in...if we don't have one in stock. What size?

jet... get some anticeptic wipes for that seat my friend... they could have left presents depending how much rubbing was happenin hahaha

shapelike 04-27-09 10:57 AM

So ... does anyone have a:

- MTB rear shifter
- MTB rear derailleur
- MTB cassette (11-32 or 11-34)

... that I could make use of for a couple of weeks? I'm toying around with the idea of keeping my singlespeed as my "fun" bike but also building up a geared bike for races. I can 1x9 my current bike and I'd like to do so for the race at Albion in two weeks. If it goes well, I'll start putting things in motion to get a geared bike but for now I just need a few parts so I can experiment and see if I like riding geared and end up any faster.

I have all three you can borrow. No name cassette, deore der and shifter.

pyze-guy 04-27-09 01:14 PM

Correction, I have an 8 speed cassette, 11-32, an 8 and 9 speed shifter and the deraileur which I am pretty sure came with the 8 speed. Anyway borrow what you need.

shapelike 04-27-09 02:08 PM

If there's a working trio of shifter/derailleur/cassette in there I'm in. I just realized I need a longer chain, too, but I can just buy that if you don't have one.

kergin 04-27-09 02:26 PM

I can't believe I just ordered a 7 speed SunRace freewheel... in 2009...

shapelike 04-27-09 05:48 PM

+ slotted cleats?

kergin 04-27-09 05:53 PM

Cinelli widowmakers to go with my Kashimax saddle.

operator 04-27-09 07:49 PM

I have a full SRAM X-9 set-up sitting unused in my bin. But you may not borrow it as I will not contribute to your escape from Hell....I mean S.S. MTB Racing. Yours Truly, Buzz Killington.

P.S. I guess I should edit the props? http://www.csajracing.com/news/viewNews.php?p=277

shapelike 04-28-09 07:37 AM

Hahaha, you ass. ;)

shapelike 04-28-09 07:45 AM

PS. "The Hammer"?! That's even worse than "Killer" that Briana stuck me with. :P I'm burying those two deep in the pile of shame, right underneath your (unmentioned) nickname.

Oh, Keith pulled off a top ten finish. Pretty great effort if you ask me, considering how deep the field was.

TRaffic Jammer 04-28-09 07:56 AM

Woot! Props to Keith and The Hammer™!!! *snikker*
Oh yes Mike..... The Hammer™ is it.. Keith said so.
Great going you guys!!!!

Hey guys, in trying to rid myself of the TTC, im attempting to join the elite ranks of cycle commuting:

I scored a beater frame and want to build it up into a usable bike.. possibly single speed so the wife can ride it as long as she doesn't think its too ugly!

sooooo im looking for a rear wheel 700c, fixed/free

AND cranks + 80's style bottom bracket... can someone lead class on these older style bottom brackets? I need to get schooled on them as it looks like its just held with 2 notched rings on either end of the bb shell?
