once a year i do a "month of sobriety" (I smoke a lot of pot and drink casually, quit smoking cig's 3 years ago). I started my month on the 8th. Since then I attended the "safety meeting", i've been invited to two keg parties, beers at friends, poker night (we all know what that leads to) and now bike forums turns into drug/alcohol stories!

Someone's trying to punish me!

Ah, smoking, my cross to bear. Watched the movie "Thank You for Smoking" last night. Brilliant. Absolutly hilarious. Was laughing out loud at some of the stuff in that movie. Wicked satire. Best line-if you want an easy job go work for the Red Cross.

So I'm in the process of figuring out how to move tunes on/off the ipod. Decided to put everything on the hard drive and then clear the ipod and upload the stuff I want. Sharepod works pretty good. Don't really need 1000 clasical tunes right now. Still can't figure out itunes. I'd like to have a great story why, but basically I'm stupid when it comes to electronics and computers. Making hollandiase sauce, can do that with eyes closed and both hands behind my back. Install a printer thought, I'm ****ed.

Get me drunk and take me home. I'll fix your iPod and we'll make babies.

if you want to upload music from your computer to your ipod using itunes do this:

1) mp3's should be stored on your hard drive already. if not, open itunes, insert a cd and a window will pop up asking if you want itunes to import it for you.

This is where people that are new itunes often get confused:

2) even though the files are already on you computer's hard drive you have to import them to your "itunes library"(click on "file" in the menu bar, click import..., select mp3's you want, click ok) before you can drag them over to you ipod. (this step is done automatically if you import a cd using itunes.)


3) connect your ipod to you computer, select music from your library, click and drag to your ipod icon

So... Here's a tip for everyone: Before you spend several hours building a studded tire, when the thought crosses your mind to check to see if the tire you've selected will actually fit your frame-- don't just skip that step and assume it will. Grrr. Now I have a very nice 700 X 38 studded tire which is pretty much useless! :mad:

I guess I'm gonna use my mountain bike instead. Any thoughts on how well "city slickers" perform with studs on the ice? ( I've got 2 sets of those laying about) or should I go out and get some knobbies to start with?

iBrad - i remember once seeing a DIY tire studding process with MTB tires on makezine.com. searching through there can be treacherous though. and i always end up reading about how to make battery packs out of altoid tins and portable 8-bit nintendos, hours later i can't remember what i was looking for in the first place.

I'm just undecided as to whether slicks with shallow rain grooves (26" still) would be a good start, or if I should just go out and get some knobbies. I really don't want to do this three times!

MEC sells them but it kind of takes the fun out of it.

Shallow rain grooves and snow suck. I have tires with that tread. Awesome, except in snow. Packs in and doesn't come out I've found.

I agree... I had those tires on until CM last month and then swapped them out immediately afterwards (first real snowfall). These are for the ice race in a couple weeks though... so no snow just ice. I suppose if I'm going to the trouble to build them then I might as well make a set I can take for a tear out on the lakeshore trail or grenadier pond though.

I actually had a set of those MEC studded tires once, but my girlfriend at the time was more into neat and tidy than cycling and convinced me to give away a large portion of my tire collection. She's gone now, but unfortunately so are the tires!

I did the model from scratch, but I already had the tire and screws I was using. I measured them to make the model and play around with the location and spacing of the studs.

Sweet, I briefly had a Clause Buttler in my possession. I had it shipped to me from England, but couldn't give it the love it required (ie. didn't have the money to build it nice). So I sold it to an older gent who had a farm with lots of land to play on, and he promised to walk it daily.

Wow! I saw that frame and thought about taking it for the BIN but I just have too many bikes so I let it go. Still, that is one of the best deals I have seen recently plus you saved a ton on shipping. You'll love SL, are you sure you want to go fixed with that bike? It would be a fantastic bike with a 9-speed 105 groupo on it but yeah, you will enjoy it however you build it up.
