The Beginner class run's on a slightly shorter (usually one big really tech section) than sport. I would suggest starting in Beginner, then if you are doing well you can do the try an O-cup Class which is the full course and distance. If it proves too much you can jump back to beginner. It is open but you wont find too many sandbaggers there...certainly less than S.S. Class.

Cool, sounds good. Do you know if any of the Earharts or other C.S. people I may know race at that start time? I noticed a car pool forum on the Chico site but if possible I'd like to hitch a ride w/ people I actually know.

I hadn't touched my mountain bike or visited mtbr.com since the first CX race of the season. Now that CX is basically done I've flipped right back to lusting over fine singletrack. :)

Logan, Michelle and Arden all race the first start. I usually go early as well to set-up the camp with Barry. Hitching a ride wouldn't be a problem I am sure.

Where are my Stan's 355 29'er rims?! :twitchy: :)

Also: What do wheel bags tend to sell for? The Continental double-bags on PBK are ~$50. Is that decent?

32flavours 12-02-08 08:48 AM

You ok, Tam? What the heck happened?

Wha' hoppond?

zippered 12-02-08 10:09 AM

other than feeling really stupid, and a banged up knee think i'm ok: i had been moving slowly this morning, and was running late, so i thought it would be a good idea to race across an intersection while traffic was stopped waiting for a train crossing. i even blared my new air horn, just in case, but somehow a car made it through just in time for me to t-bone it. i managed to brake enough to cut my velocity, so i didn't flip. he was really shocked, and concerned for me, but it was my fault and i told him so.

today's lesson boys and girls is... keep the rubber side DOWN.

thank goodness i work somewhere with a nurse, a counsellor who does auricular accupunture (and then drives your sorry ass home), a manager who allows you time off without a guilt trip, and clients that rage about what a bum rap cyclists get!

"never do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics" ... i need to listen to my own advice.

Speaking as a lawyer, never do this! :) You'd hate to be sued for property damage to his car (I've seen it happen).

But, I'm glad to hear you're ok!

Could that kid stop ****ing growing already?! I'm going to have to start doping next season just to keep up with him. *attaches electrodes to leg muscles Bruce Lee styles and goes back to work*

TRaffic Jammer 12-02-08 12:54 PM

Zippered, glad to hear your OK.

Is Logan that early teen who's Dad is on the CS team as well? He has grown a fair bit since last year if it's who I think it is.

shapelike 12-02-08 01:48 PM

That'd be the one.

kergin 12-02-08 04:09 PM

Is it wrong to lust after the Van Dessel Country Road Bob? That thing does it all: track ends, derailleur hanger, fenders, rack mounts, canti or disc brakes.

Zippered - it must be nice to work in a place which is sympathetic to cyclists. Where I work, the matter is just avoided, because all you garner are blank stares and confusion.

My co-workers are still shocked that I ride in to work on days like this, they think it is too cold. I found it pretty warm today and didn't even need my hat, only the gloves. But my commute is pretty short, about 15 minutes.

I am glad you are okay zippered, it sounds like things could have been much worse...

Watching Harper squirm on TeeVee today has been great....

shapelike 12-02-08 05:28 PM

Maybe this is a dumbass question but does anyone know how the Don is looking these days - covered in leaves, total soup bowl, etc.? I'm thinking of doing a road + off-the-beaten-path ride on Saturday and then maybe hitting up the Don on Sunday if it's not too sloppy in there.

you're asking *us* about bike lust?!

yes, it's very nice. i've worked in enough places like that to garner this appreciation. i also have a secure "private" indoor parking spot!

if i can arrive at work all schwetty at -10, then today is still "warm".

i'm thanking my lucky stars... and everyone here for their kind words. this is not the kind of attention i relish, but it's still nice to have some empathy.

ps. iherald: i totally get your point, but i did that mostly for the benefit of the other drivers who were watching because i didn't want to play into the "reckless cyclist" stereotype. taking responsibility for one's stupidity is mature... right?? :o

Anyone know where I can buy road levers for v-brakes? I know Dia compe make some, amd I believe tektro does as well.

The same place as mine.....en route with our booking order. You can have em Friday if you want to pay extra? I would guess sometime shortly after X-Mas....too late for twitchy?

$50 is fair for a double...padded?

Flimflam 12-02-08 09:25 PM

Wow, glad to read you're OK Tam...

Came across this craziness tonight:

Huzzah! Yeah, after X-mas is fine.

Also, yes, padded. I said eff-it and ordered one yesterday with road tubs.

Let me know how it is. I've thought about buying a bag, but haven't yet.

elTwitcho 12-03-08 08:00 AM

Un****ingbelievable. Charcoal Pontiac license plate ABFP 109 tries running me off the road twice last night (trying to pass traffic on the left using the right lane occupied by parked cars and me on my bike) and then follows me (half in my lane) about 6 inches from my rear wheel. It's dangerous and stupid enough that I take down his license plate and consider making a report to the cops about aggressive driving, and I'm genuinely angry over the whole incident.

This morning I see the same car going in towards work, I keep up the pace and it turns out the guy pulls into my work and is actually one of my coworkers who sits about 40 feet away from me each day...
