You know, I *saw* all the road shrapnel out there today but did I move away from the curb and just take the lane? Nooo ... and now I've got to walk over to BoW and buy a tube before I can get my ass home. Booourns.

11/11:30pm, I'd just come onto Sorauren from Galley to head south, other person was going north and had the blue windbreaker jacket, I thought it was you but was kinda too out of it to clue in/recognise you properly, so I just called back "hey! Is that Brad?!" *shrug* :)

Anyone know where I can find a hard-travel case for my bike?
Heading to New Zealand in 2.5 weeks and the guy I was planning on borrowing one from fell through.

Thanks!

I_bRAD 12-15-08 12:30 PM

waren't me. 11:30 is way past my bedtime.
I think a couple other folks in toronto might have the blue mec jacket though! :p

something else to share from the icebike list:

Boulder, Colorado has "DO NOT PASS BIKES THROUGH CIRCLE" signs posted at traffic circles.

Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) will post "Bikes in Lane" signs in Santa Cruz

http://www.flickr.com/photos/bike/2494281938/

We also wear those signs on our shirts:

San Francisco has a couple of designs: A yellow warning sign and a white regulatory sign.

The "Bikes May Use Full Lane" sign will likely be in the 2009 edition of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices in the United States. The MUTCD is the manual used by State transportation departments for signs and controls installed on public roadways.

I was planning purchasing because I'll be using it for a little over 6 months and didn't think renting would be that cost effective. What's your rate? Or should I just call in?
thanks!

jeremywhitehorn 12-15-08 02:31 PM

you're right guys it wasn't too bad out there weather-wise. it would have been nice if my left side crank didn't snap off mid-ride though.

Rent a car, go down to Buffalo and buy one there. I saw them on Performance's site for like $199.

jeebus! what happened? just riding along and snap?

10% off everything at urbane right now. got me some kool stop pads and a pair of schwalbe marathon plus' today. and i picked up a pair of cork grips at curbside for 5 bucks! woohoo!

jeremywhitehorn 12-15-08 04:04 PM

i should post a photo of it. yes, pretty much pushed off to a start and bang! oddly enough, when i heard the crunch i knew exactly what it was. i should have bought a crank when i was out today, i was shopping for one and left it.

Danhalen 12-15-08 04:21 PM

Oooh name dropping. I sold gloves to this guy I recognized from a commercial last week. I can't remember which one though.

Hey Pyze I came off lunch the other day and heard you had just dropped by MEC. I paged you to the cycling department but you didn't show. I'm guessing you left already?

Yeah...renting would surely not be cost effective. They are quite expensive locally so you may want to take I-heralds suggestion of picking one up in Buffoonalo. The least expensive one locally is likely to cost ya at least $300.

2wheelsgood 12-15-08 04:24 PM

to continue the name dropping, dan drank beer on my porch a couple times. it was awesome. I was in mec today, where the heck were you?

~Stuart~ 12-15-08 04:45 PM

And rather than help some poor dude who built himself into a shed he just sits there looking all self-satisfied while drinking said instant coffee. *******.

Colin, I had the day off today. So I was either sleeping, eating or playing guitar. That is all that I did today. It was great. Now I am bored though.

Quick question: Anyone know any shops carrying 29" studded tires?

I_bRAD 12-15-08 06:17 PM

Urbane maybe? I've heard the MEC is out of them.

Any schwalbe dealer should be able to order them if they're still available.

Jabba Degrassi 12-15-08 06:26 PM

Yeah, MEC only has 26" and 700c in stock. Duke's and Urbane are the closest to me, I'll check them out when I get a chance.

I know Cyclemania on Danforth has at least 2 of them, but.....they are the kind I have. Innovas with 106 studs. $50. Basically a tire designed for snow and smooth ice. I find them fine for riding in the bikelane and slick side streets, once the roads get rutted they are pretty useless though. I have them for days when the roads are still slick/frozen from the night before as my ride in to work is in the dark and its hard to see the icey spots. For that price of them I would get them only if I really needed some and couldn't get them anywhere else.

Forget what I said, Cm only has 700 tires. I don't know anyone who makes studded 29er tires.

I_bRAD 12-15-08 06:30 PM

700 and 29 are the same size.
