I can see someone who doesn't bike thinking this is a funny joke. "I wasn't ever going to hit you". I can see a misguided person not realizing the danger they were causing, but not meaning any harm. Or, they could just be a jerk to cyclists.

Drop kick.

He's just an aggressive moronic driver (trying to pass traffic by squeezing into half a right hand lane for instance) so I doubt it was anything specific to me as a cyclist, I'm just incredibly irritated by peple who seem to be under the impression that smashing into a cyclist will be as inconsequential as a minor fender bender would be if they were tailgating and drove into the back of a car.

I'm still contemplating calling the traffic offenses unit with 55 division and reporting him. Nothing is likely going to come of it, but if he just gets a phone call to the extent of "it's the police and someone called because you drive like a moron" I'd feel like it balanced out...

So yeah, dropkick at the water cooler it is :D

The things people will do when they think they're anonymous... I'd just ask them to be more courteous around others on the road. Wait... how far do you think they commute from? Ask them to join you on a ride in!

That's actually probably the best thing. I think I'll find him today and say "dude, you almost killed me a couple times yesterday and that's not ok".

Followed by a drop kick ;)

somnambulant 12-03-08 10:29 AM

Why don't you just tailgate him around the office?

That could lead to an unplanned pregnancy.

Well if you know where his desk is, you can probably find out his extension. Then YOU can call and be the police!

In other news, am I the only one to just find out there was a new KITH sketch?
It would appear that they've still got it :)

In your single occupancy commute along #### street this morning you were observed driving in an aggressive and dangerous manner in so far as the cyclist you were shadowing is concerned. You might not be aware of the danger you were putting the cyclist in. Please consider this email a formal warning to modify your on road behaviors to be aware of others around your vehicle. Failure to comply will result in the authorities being notified of your indiscretions behind the wheel, which may result, but not be limited to: being ticketed, being summoned, having a law enforcement officer visit you at work. Other possibilities might include being U-locked to your desk and having your clothing cut off, or receiving a very embarrassing ***** slap and accompanying beatdown in front of the rest of your co-workers.

You have been warned.

Love

The Cyclist you've been messin with.

Priceless!

I'm going to take everyone's suggestions and compile them into one big hideous revenge plot...

On an unrelated note, anyone have a MTB threadless (duh) stem for sale? I've got a buttload of spacers on right now so I don't really care what angle it is, if it's cheap I'll rock it. I've got the winter bike fully put together except the stem is this idiotic FUJI adjustable monstrosity that's gotta go. After that I'll be able to proudly boast that I'm someone who wisely invested about 600 bucks into a hybrid bike converted to single speed for some rationale that now escapes me...

You know, back in the day when you were just a youngun all mountain bikes had quill stems! And rigid forks! And thumb shifters! AND it was uphill both ways and that's why everything was purple.

shapelike 12-03-08 02:54 PM

Umm ... length? Clamp/steerer tube diameter as well, just to make sure?

A mountain bike with a quill stem? Madness, I won't believe it!!

I checked the website and product specifications and it had such useful info as "Fuji MTB" for handlebar specifications so I can only assume the common 25.4 diameter.

I was able to figure out the headset is 1-1/8 though.

As for length, anything normal sized is fine (between 130mm and 90mm) since I've got risers I can reposition to put the bars as forward/back as I need, and I've got tons of spacers and room to cut down the steer tube so angle doesn't matter much either.

Basically any old stem (in 1-1/8 and 25.4) will pretty much do

there's a traffic offenses unit now?

when i've asked about making a traffic complaint in the past i was told i had to go *in person* to the division in which the offense occured to file the report. which i've done, and received no follow-up. (although it was pretty amusing to see them freak out when i showed them a picture of the driver flipping a badge at me.) it's one thing to have the plate #, but they also ask you what make/model the vehicle is, which is something i'm completely usless at knowing...

keep us posted!

Forcing him to ride with you for a week is by far the best punishment. Bonus points for making him ride on a street like Queen or College with streetcar tracks.
