Hey, can anyone recommend a good rain riding jacket to get? I need one with a hood, pref one which can fit a helmet if possible, and not too expensive.

You all laugh now, but wait until I start cruising around on a kids supercycle with busted brakes in a full length parka. I expect to have lost most of my teeth by next weekend.

I would rock this so hard.

I think I was, as Wes would say, breaking wind at that moment.

cavit8 02-08-09 09:28 PM

Ah, I was wondering if Mike had judiciously cropped the photo

Back from Kearney and a fantastic weekend of ice racing. We were a "Demonstration Sport" as part of the annual dog sled races which have been held for 15 years. The Mayor came out to officially open our event and welcome all the racers to town. Tons of good racing and carousing was the order of the weekend. I set up my 29er fixed and after tuning my tires last week I was Giv'n Er. I ended up second to my bud Barry after we decided to have a coin toss to decide the winner. We had an awards ceremony with the Mushers after all the competition was over with prizes for everyone who took part. The locals loved it and we had tons of questions about making tires and bike set-up. We were asked to do an event with a huge snowmobile racing event next year. They have promised us a banked ice oval to race on! Good Times!

p.s. Wes...you suck!

My roommate came to me yesterday and said "I want to by a road bike". Once I wiped the look of surprise off my face, I got that she had a budget of 1000-1500 (lower is better) and wants one that she can use as a beginner but will be ok as she gets better. She won't race, but she wants something relatively light.

I was thinking that an 08 is likely fine, does anyone know of any stores with good deals on 48-52 cm road bikes in that range?

Is buying a used bike out of the question? I have seen some pretty good deals on Pinkbike.com and CanadianCyclist.com, this is the time of the year when racers get rid of their old rides as they upgrade for the '09 season...

i hate all of you that are not posting because you are outside riding right now.

I'm stuck inside now too, but I did get in 120km yesterday after all was said and done - was blissful, and today is beautiful as well - I'm strongly considering just riding home from Whitby (with a tailwind, I'm *very* tempted!)

Enjoy all! :D

kergin 02-09-09 02:18 PM

I'm inside, writing awk scripts and grep'ing... :(

somnambulant 02-09-09 03:09 PM

Go grep yourself.

I think she would only be comfortable with a new one. But good idea!

I would but it would be too awk.

somnambulant 02-09-09 08:04 PM

Anyone know a person with a white frame, green rims (deep v's?), risers and a front (and maybe rear) disc brake. It definitely wasn't fixed. It might have had an internally geared rear hub, or it could have been a SS.

I_bRAD 02-10-09 04:19 AM

Its a shaft drive internal 8sp. Neat to look at. Heavy. Rides ok.

Flimflam 02-10-09 06:06 AM

Only seen that dude once from memory, at Critical Mass. Took me a few glances to notice the lack of chain but no idea who the dude is, this was more than a year ago I think.
