Anyone ever challange duty?

I put in a request some time ago and have heard nothing back. I had some bike parts marked as auto parts and got charged duty.

Seemed easy enough to do, but thought I would have heard back by now. Now I'm wondering if something gets rejects, if you hear back at all.

I love that my firm owns the office we're in, so I can bring my bike into my office.

How long is "some time"? I had to send a PBK order back (long annoying story) + filed a claim to get the taxes back about a month ago & am still waiting.. I think CBSA is pretty slow to process refunds.

Saw a guy heading north on Bathurst on a beautifully built-up Cervelo track bike last night, nice ride, dude (and nice dodging those eager peds crossing :))

I also love that I don't have to lock up outside for work. Especially when I head up to North York.

I'm going to start some every-fortnight rides on the weekend mornings to try and get myself into a better shape with a view to going to the midweek club rides.

Are there any recommended sites/videos/media to look at/read for trying to get fit/healthy on a bike? I don't have a trainer, so I'm stuck to outdoor riding (farking wind! :)) but have an MP3 player that can hold audio clips, if applicable.

Check out Joe Friel's "The Cyclist's Training Bible" -- tons of good stuff in there

5-6 weeks or so, nothing crazy, but was starting to wonder how long it should take

Ok... funny/boring story.

Rolling along and then some guys stays next to me and says I should have stopped at the stop sign. Can't come up with a clever comeback (like I wish I did) and say "ok" in disbelief. Then I'm thinking "fair enough", but can't shake off his blatant self-righteousness.
Then at the next light, same guy is talking somewhat intensely on his cell phone, and continues to do so as he rolls away.

Hilarious.

I know most of you guys are in the core, but have any of you done the weekend DONUT RIDE fixed?

im heading out tomorrow..!

exhibitx 03-06-09 09:39 AM

I think some guys on here talked about doing it but not sure if they ever did.

The ride gets split up so I'm sure you could find a pack that you could stick with on fixed. The lead pack is pretty serious does a lot of race style stuff and it would be hard to keep up with them even on a road bike.

trueno92 03-06-09 11:30 AM

i'll try to take pics.. cuz hey if i dont' take pics, then it didn't happen, right? hahah.

speaking of which, the humber trail north of old mill station is going to be a little hard to access for a while: http://www.flickr.com/photos/29950894@N02/3332867621/

exhibitx 03-06-09 01:09 PM

there's a trail that starts at yonge and davisville, ends around eglinton and dufferin, i tried taking it to la bicicletta yesterday, as i often do, and it was basically an ice rink, i came off the bridge that goes over yonge street thinking i was going onto gravel but it was just pure 100% ice, you could skate on it

great day for riding today though, although it felt like every road i was on, my side was wet and the other side was completely dry

Has anyone seen these for sale in Toronto? I have bought the no-name ones in the past and they almost always break so I figure I should get some decent ones....

I find agreeing with them usually works the best as far as responses go. I rolled through an intersection as I had space before the pedestians got in my way and an old lady said "you're going against the light" and I just said "yes, thank you" politely and went on my way. It's a respectful way of saying that you're not totally concerned with what their opinion is without being confrontational or screwing up your ride with an angry exchange.

So... I feel bad mooching info from you guys... I would be on more but I'm computerless right now.

How much would a chorus group cost me? Minus the levers.

I'm planning on building a long distance bike... I have some rediculious plans of riding to Orlando Florida in under 12 days along with some other things. I'm thinking of selling my touring bike because it's overkill for what I want. I don't need 60L of cargo space. As I can pack small (think full camping gear and food in 40l of space). So I want a lighter faster ride. And then campy is different to what I'm use to, and I dislike the play in ultegra levers. [/thinking in text]

Anyone here know where I could get someone to pricecheck my bike and/or sell it for me? I hate setting prices because I always feel like I'm ripping someone off.

Rode around downtown after coming back from Keele/Steeles - beautiful riding, shorts & jersey all day and night. Man it felt great and weird to be in summer clothing. In March. :)

Got passed by a guy on a newish Colnago road bike (yeah, I don't know what on earth it was otherwise :p) on the Danforth who was moving along nicely, so I ditched my buddy and rode with this guy until he turned onto Jones - not sure if anyone knows who it was, but man that was a beautiful bike and he was going at a fair old pace, too. Actually, it might've been William who used to work/works at Urbane and was involved in the CMWC main race testing I went to.. I can't remember and I wasn't sober enough last night to tell. Beautiful bike though, jesus.

Stuart, no idea on the bike, but let me know what you come up with - I'm looking for a road/tour/cross type bike - and your trip to Florida sounds very intriguing :D

That 'noni on kijiji above looks just spectacularly nice... I'd be hosing my finances if I did that right now, but GD I'm tempted (it's probably already gone :()

Just about to head out for a ride to Milton and back, weather is way cooler but actually feels really nice out there.

you should check out sram rival, i recently put DA levers on my bike, had a serious issue with the right lever, returned them, got 09 sram rival levers/RD and I'm loving it big time ... the doubletap shifting rules and it's lighter than DA ... obviously doesn't have the same big name as shimano or campy for road stuff, but once contador wins the TDF on sram red this year, people will be all over it

campy is always expensive, but if you already have levers (i assume they are 10 speed?) the retail for the RD/FD for $300/$129 ... you can use whatever crankset, the campy cranksets are real expensive (but obviously incredibly nice)

i was expecting some good deals on the 10 speed campy stuff now that the 11 speed stuff has been out for awhile, but i haven't really seen any good deals, since you only really need those 2 parts you can probably source them somewhere for cheap, you could always mix in some centaur as well

cheapest i've seen 11 speed chorus is $1200 from PBK, but then you also need the $200 chain tool

I haven't sold anything on CL in awhile but every time I did, I got so many emails that I thought that I had priced the bike too low! I think that the demand for a good used bike is really really really high on CL and that is why there are so many ripoffs posted on a daily basis.

I don't know what bike you have but I think that if you price it at about exactly the price that you think it is worth, you will get it, especially at this time of year.

I'm looking to get a complete overhall on my bike. new cables, repack hubs, disassemble etc. Anyone have any recommendations and price?
