Well, I took Kingston Rd up to just before Lawrence, then ducked south into a very affluent neighborhood. After that, I meandered along MUPs and dirt forest trails until I found the #4 east bike route, then followed that all the way out to the Rouge Hill trail, and then onto Port Union all the way to Pickering. Nice ride, but I took the GO train back.

Port Union to head east on Kingston Road, I assume?

The wind is often a pain in the ass coming back west, but it's not a bad run - just a bit boring on Kingston Rd/Hwy2 in places. If the wind is still out of the west as harsh as it was this morning I'm probably going to ride the full journey into work. On the way back into Toronto I skip the rouge hill (it's not quite as bad going east) and go through Petticoat Creek park across the water and onto the eastern end of Lawrence.

Donut looked fun, and another asking what the general speed of the ride was. If it's worth me getting the roadbike in shape then I'll take that instead of my fixed.

the average speed is around 25-30km/h I think. It really depends on the winds and hills. once ur so north on keele i think my average speed along there and king road was say 20km/h.

The ride really took a lot out of me right at Rutherford and keele and a small pack of riders passed me, however one of the few coaches on the ride caught me and had me drafting another rider to stay in the game. about 15 mins of this along the really long but not that steep hills on keele and i was a bit more composed. I ended up passing that same pack of riders before getting to kirby road.

so you can see with the hills and wind, speed really changes and can be all over the place.

i think if ur a way stronger rider than me, u can hang with the main peleton.. once on keele i'm pretty sure they are around 30-35km/h + for about 40 mins.

the way back is way easier and the main peleton kicks up to 45km/h in 2 line formation and just bolts back until major mac or so.

assuming nothing comes up, I'll be riding the donut this weekend. This will likely be the closest thing to competitive riding I've ever done. Time to get reamed out.

I'll likely ride over to Eglinton/Laird (I think that's where it "starts"), unless anyone in the west knows where to hook up on Keele and we'll meet there... I don't mind either way.

I'm game for Saturday, and depending on how that goes, Sunday too - sounds like a good time.

Also: I'll likely be riding fixed (46x15 @ 80GI) unless I can not be a lazy ass in time to get the old beater roadie ready.

Where/when?

I'm fairly close to eg+laird, so I'll be there at 8:45 probably. I'll be riding my Jake the Snake.

im partial as to what the weather will be.

i want to be out on sat, ideally. but with NW winds of 30km/h.. thats like twice of what i had last sat and if ur travelling 15-20km/h (realistically with that headwind), well.. im thinking it will suck pretty hard.

eh, could be worse: wind + rain. Look on the bright side, too: it'll be wickedly fast coming back.

at least we'll all be in the same boat with the wind saturday. It will be warmer and calmer on sunday, and I'm free all weekend, so I'll do whichever day everyone else is riding.

The main group turned left at Teston Rd. and then hammered up Jane St. to Aurora Sideroad including the hills coming out of Kettleby. So you caught up with the stragglers "C" group.

The donut ride is harder with a wind from the south, the headwind going north on Keele keeps the main group together. With a tailwind the group spreads out and is usally 45-50 km/h steady going uphill on the rollers north of Teston Road until the sprint coming down towards King Rd.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. so thats what happened. see, the main pack was so out of distance by the time i got to kirby, that i just decided to turn on king head towards yonge. it was my 3rd try so getting dropped north of rutherford was okay.... windbreaker pants, toe-clips, vintage steel bike and all!

ok, yah lemme correct you for the physically not quite physically capable!

* provided you can keep up with the main pack.
** but, if you can't keep up for 45km/h for 20mins, uphill, however, I think riding with any of the smaller packs, it may be easier as ur basically getting a tailwind for the uphill parts and a headwind for the downhill.

Averaging 30 over rolling doesn't sound too too bad on a geared ride. I can very easily avg 30 on flat here in the city.
70 max on a downside, again easy -with gears (personal max is 95). On the SS, ah, not so easy, heck I can hit 55/60 going down Greenwood on a good night.

oh btw, there was some serious kick ass roadie with some carbon bike, but had his training rear wheel on.

training rear as in single speed. still had his front 2 rings, but he could keep up with the main pack. i drafted him from bathurst to langstaff... looking at his legs was like looking at 2 spinning weed-wackers.
