One of the guys I met at Critical Vacuum does, but I don't remember his name. I've also spotted one on Harbord recently and posted about it.

The guy at CV was Olaf. He's a messenger from Montreal, and he works as a mechanic at Bikes on Wheels.

edit: I've also seen a guy on Harbord with a black IRO. *Mystery!*

Somna, that rear brake won't fit - I need a bolt long enough to make it through my fork. Thanks though.

In all honesty though I think "anyone on a fixie = anyone-else-on-a-fixie magnet"... or perhaps "fixie = interest". I've never talked to so many strangers on the street since I started riding fixed last year. Both other fixed riders as well as just curious people. Not to deflate your head. hahahaha. Being a girl obviously ups the ante though, that's for certain. :D

Until recently most "citizen's" didn't know what a track or fixed gear bike was. A cursory explanation of the working's, garnering only slack jawed stare's. With the "hipster" popularity and spinning classes being so popular as well more regular folk's know what it is. Year's ago I had an old Japanese fellow.. he had to be 75 at least...motion to me while I was trackstanding at a light. "Keirin...Keirin!!" while pointing at my bike and smiling. Still one of my Favorite......Moments......Ever!!.

...and he has gladly given up his digits...:p to the girl on the fixie

STEEKER 05-05-06 04:22 PM

is there going to be a night ride tonight ?

jeremywhitehorn 05-05-06 04:22 PM

the girl factor probably works for any sport that one is interested in. for guys who play baseball, say, girls who play baseball have that tomboy factor. works for anything that is usually a sausage-fest. the girl at the poker game or star trek convention. geting numbers for her = shooting fish in a barrel.
