Hmm... maybe I'll buy me some Formula hubs, since they have a fixed/fixed version, they're more durable, maintenance-free, and cheaper, but still a smooth hub. What do you think of Suzue hubs? Or do they still make them?

Suzue Promax "Disco" hubs are quite nice...if you can find em. As Jeremy pointed out they are no longer in bi-ness.

If you have your heart set on fixed/fixed then any of Formula, IRO, Surly etc are decent and very similar. If you are o.k. with single fixed I would go with the Miche instead. They use a 6001 bearing which is substantially bigger than the 6901 that the others use and the price is pretty much the same.

ronin2046 06-12-06 01:45 PM

Maybe I'll get a pair of new school lo-flange Dura-Ace hubs with a fixed/fixed rear.

TRaffic Jammer 06-12-06 01:52 PM

Goki: ghacks good for MACs at work?

boroSS 06-12-06 01:52 PM

That should read "it came from MY Cavern" Echh!!

TRaffic Jammer 06-12-06 01:54 PM

We did tees for daughter's school for 6-8 bucks, with one colour.
I'll price out American Apparel, you sure you wanna ride with those..... flimsy

operator 06-12-06 01:56 PM

I was thinking just a small logo patch that says "BikeForums" maybe "BikeForums FTW!" :) Not that hot on the T-Shirt idea. Jersey yeah.

One other sweet feature about the new Dura-Ace is the inner hub locknuts.....they are freakin HUGE!! The rear one is like the size of a quarter. What this means is far less chewing of the fork and track ends.

i guess they'd be worth it if you're handy with the cone wrenches...

Cool, cool...

So Shimano makes a fixed/fixed rear Dura-Ace correct?

TRaffic Jammer 06-12-06 02:05 PM

yo masterless samuri... thanks for the keirin images.... *sigh* Too bad the jpg'ing is too great or I could remake the logo into something usable.
 they're not even together in the on bike shot. All shot at different times. just noticed.
And yes 32flavours...you win, organize away

i'm on a mac at work as well but a bit too busy to try it. how come no one has thought of a world cup ride?
ride from bar to bar between matches! if we can collect enough hooligans along the way, we might even be able to start a riot outside of cavern.

TRaffic Jammer 06-12-06 02:11 PM

is there a flip flop version?

i'm trying peercast at work on my mac right now and it might take a bit of fiddling to get it to work. channels aren't preloaded like they are in tuvplayer. click the "yellow pages" tab and search for CCTV1, CCTV5 and probably Shanghai Sports. these 3 channels seem to be showing all the games live. i've had luck with cctv1 and 5.

i was really close to ordering satellite or cable or some other crap for a month just to watch the games

It's not the worst thing you could do. for years i ordered cable every july and cancelled it in august just to watch the TdF.

I would be much more in to bike forums jerseys rather than t-shirts... the last thing I need is another cotton t-shirt... plus we would have an excuse to wear matching jerseys. Anyways, my idea I just thought of for the design... it seems everybody and their dog has thought about using a cog, and its become pretty clicheed. So why not combine it with another overused cliche (albeit still cool) image: Hokusai's Great Wave. I can't really portray it in paintbrush at work, but what I envision would be a cog unrolling into a curl like a wave. You could also incorporate other things like a chain to accentuate the movement, or little cycling dudes trying to escape the cogwave and then the text. Either that or my other idea was just an old school graffiti throw-up tag filling the chain paralellogram shape of a fixed drivetrain. Lets hear some interesting ideas here

WTF? What kind of raw deal is that? Oh well...

Formula fixed/fixed hubs are looking more and more attractive now...

cavernmech 06-12-06 03:07 PM

Can I have my shirt say "My Nuts Are NJS"?

gokiburi 06-12-06 03:09 PM

this shows all the games and what channels are streaming them:

http://www.boxtobox.co.uk/competitions.php?choice=6

i'm not going to devote any more time to mucking around with peercast at work but people have got it to work.

i think the best bet is to check out omni1 or 2 for those without cable/satellite. they show 2/3 games daily. not bad, but you might miss the match you really want to watch.
