Wow, I bought my first serious bicycle off of them years ago but yeah, they suffer from a bad location for higher-end stuff. If any of you guys do go up there check out High Park Cycles, just down the street from McBrides, to have your mind blown by the old track stuff and old Italian frames. Just don't take anything the owner says at face value, he is a nutter.

So what do people think of moving this thread to a regional subforum? I've emailed 165 and he suggested a locked sticky in fixed/ss so people in the big smoke could find us (which was my concern). I'm wondering if there's a down side and what exactly the upside is apart from the 500 lb gorilla the thread has become and trying to keep stuff organized er what. hey?

operator 09-26-06 08:05 PM

I'm against moving it. The regional subforums has zero traffic.

eyefloater 09-26-06 08:21 PM

I'm against moving it, so sayeth my PM.

oh dear lord that guy in high park cycles is crazy and truly frustrating to deal with if you actually need work done (you should watch him run to his bench vise to get a lockring off). also creepy: i didn't see a single repair stand in his shop. i live around the corner and i'd still rather cross town to work done at cavern or urbane.
but yes it is a museum of cycling lore to marvel at. a while ago he had an original raliegh carlton track bike with 27" sew ups and a fully campy track kit on it. was it for sale? who knows...

STEEKER 09-26-06 08:30 PM

jeremywhitehorn 09-26-06 08:34 PM

Man, if it was a 54,53, or 52, I'd snatch it right up.

Sounds like a Pro frame. Was it Alu or steel? That is full retail for the complete, entry level bike. I have 2 Pro framesets left from this season...a much better price than that.

Yours for the bargain price of $3999.99. That is if you can actually get him to give you a price on anything.

If you're looking at motorcycles the prices are pretty good! :)

that was plain creepy

somnambulant 09-27-06 09:27 AM

track update: I was talking to Mike and he said that starting Oct 9 the Winter schedule will be in effect. That includes track 1 sessions every Saturday morning, except the 4th Saturday of every month (when he holds the Track Combo session). That means that it won't be possible for us all to go and do the combo stuff in the morning and track 1 in the afternoon because the track will already be in use in the morning. In addition to that, the track combo session for October only has 1 open spot at this point.

The only thing he could suggest is that we all play hookey on a Friday sometime, and as long as we can get at least 4 people for the combo and 4 for track 1 then we could have the place to ourselves for the day. I don't know how likely that is though with everyone's schedules. HOWEVER, I imagine if we could do that we could actually do Track 1 in the morning and then the combo in the afternoon (instead of the usual, which is the other way around). That means the newbies among us could get totally caught up in 1 day.

holy moley.. i never even knew there was a regional subforum. i just checked it now and there are some toronto-related posts..mcbride cycle sale in particular. i wonder if the posters there know there's a slightly larger toronto thread. op's right, it has zero traffic. i'm against moving this thread. i like 500lbs gorillas. this thread's T.O, but it's also fixed-gear specific.

Shiznaz 09-27-06 09:37 AM

well it is now that rob is on a fixed gear. I feel like we are leaving out oscar though, he's the man.

I don't really care where this thread is anyways as I have it bookmarked (for page 900)

Any of you guys actually buying those nashbar hubs, click on coupons at the top and use the 10% off. That should definitley get you under the $20 for the order. Sadly I only remembered this morning after I placed teh order.

That would be this coupon code here: http://www.bikeforums.net/showpost.p...29&postcount=2

Edit: Looks like the page for teh hubz is gone already. GG.

orguasch 09-27-06 11:13 AM

I am still alive, still around, giving a very seriuos though about acquiring a single speed bike, I am on the look out for a Road bike Tandem though

Does anybody have one or two of these 26.0 cross levers that they want to sell?

it can be tektro, cane creek, salsa, or whatever just as long as it's the same design.

Thanks again!

What with having sticky status and all, I think this thread is pretty visible right now. New members chime in regularly and the community is growing. Having said that the thread is serving a worthwhile purpose. I'd hate to see that momentum lost by parking the thread in a different spot that may or may not create more exposure.

just one opinion
