It's a trap!

Just came across this on velonews, rolling resistance of various tires. Obviously not an exhaustive list.

http://image.bayimg.com/maepmaabd.jpg

Michelin PR2, ftw. http://www.velonews.com/tech/report/...s/12493.0.html

Rolling performance is 29w @ 110psi for the PR2 vs the hutchinson at the bottom of the list at 48w @ 110psi.

Roughly, the average rider power requirements on a course with a zero net elevation gain is broken down into 60% rider drag, 8% wheel drag, 8% frame drag, 12% rolling resistance .5% wheel inertia forces and 8% bike/rider inertia.

In summary, wheels account for almost 10% of the total power required to race your bike and the dominant factor in wheel performance is aerodynamics. Wheel mass is a second order effect (nearly 10 times less significant) and wheel inertia is a third order effect (nearly 100 times less significant).

Who was that man, and what did he do with Rasmussen? :P

No *****! What a great ride for him today. Vino also looked pretty impressive. The next few days in the mtns will be awesome. Maybe Leipheimer will actually do something instead of being nearly invisible. While I picked Vino to win at the start I will be cheering Contador on. What happened to Valverde? Maybe he had a little chicken bone in his breakie? Choke!!

Danhalen 07-21-07 10:53 AM

Keith I believe the correct spelling is "Ciocc"

P.S. **** I thought the time trial was tomorrow morning!

Then you can always use the Pulp Fiction line "Bring out the Gimp"

Ha ha! Say hello to my new little friend (the one on the left).

A new acquisition from the junk shop down the street. I paid four times what he asked because due to my good nature I couldn't rip him off that badly...

Crazy day running around with Toby picking up all the prizing for the race tonight. Should be lots of fun. If you're not doing anything, remember:

shapelike 07-21-07 06:20 PM

So what in fact is "the dilly" for tonight? Open race, any other events? The Tosca's back on the road (omfgyay!) so I might head out.

somnambulant 07-21-07 06:34 PM

I'm headin' down to the Gladstone in a few.. I'll be inside with the missus enjoying a beverage if anyone cares to join.

nerdsgirth 07-21-07 07:15 PM

I'm going to head down early and grab a coffee. Should be fun. To the maaaaaax.

Cable shots had come up in conversation awhile back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxTS4...related&search=

SamHouston 07-22-07 08:16 AM

that was a nice vid, I only watched cause I had no idea what a cable shot was. I quickly figured it out though. The log...

If you wanted a ride destination tonught, 850 Dundas West The Press Room 6pm, drawing around 7-8 or so, hope you all came drop in. Tickets on sale online til 4pm or so, on sale at the bar b4 the drawing. I totally skipped a groove on Tobys race, had intended to go down and get a video of the start, maybe roll to the finish, but a CMWC meeting and a beer visit with the landlord put my head in a different space and the next I knew it was midnight.

canice 07-22-07 09:25 AM

Danhalen 07-22-07 09:39 AM

I'm sorry to hear that. Might as well report it. Couldn't hurt I'd say. Are you okay?

Not reporting is not an option. Glad you're ok

TRaffic Jammer 07-22-07 11:53 AM

Report him ....call the company and let them know what happened. Glad you're ok too. It was nice putting more faces to names last night....damn that was a good time. Keith is a monster on a bike that is all. Mike/cavit8/offhoff/Keith I'm lovin' the Pake.... it's feelin' good. 9th...wooohooo not bad for an old timer, Shamil 11th, and Keith 2nd!!!!..... good thing Keith wasn't there to race  Shamil and I were with him to the first check point and then *poof* Keith was gone...as in I didn't see hide nor hair of him til the finsh line. Daaaaaamn. Shamil and I played wingman to each other. With practice come some higher places....I hope. Lookin' for a top 5 now. Thanks for a great alleycat Toby and all who helped him... Thanks for use of the pump and thanks to Keith for the tips... I've changed a lot of tires in my day but never even thought of using the schrader / presta adapter as an extender. Sean was happy to be able to continue riding for the night after his spill...

I didn't get many great photos but I uploaded what I did get in the wee hours of the morning HERE

Great to meet you as well! It's always awesome to put faces to names.

Big arms? Maybe a year and a half ago... I'm all flab right now, baby. :)

Sounds like a fun time was had! Too bad I missed it...

Today I went riding somewhere I'd never been before- mimico creek valley loop (up the humber and across Eglinton to the 427 and then south and back across to old mill and south on humber again.)

It's a fun ride and the bike path along eg is a superspeedway :) Kind of a short loop though.

jeremywhitehorn 07-22-07 05:18 PM

agreed - that section of the city (mimico beach) is really nice. i went riding through there on the way home from mississagua one time and really enjoyed it. isn't there a brewery somewhere along there (perhaps on missisagua road)? sorry, i can't remember where exactly, i'm a bit drunk.

PS - Cam, i hate you a little bit for finding an espresso maker of that quality at a yard sale. i have an ice cream maker my parents bought me in my basement that i'd love to trade for an espresso machine.

We never actually went down all the way to the lake along mimico:

http://www.stridemaps.com/maps/view/97

Mimico beach is where we went for the ride of (no) destruction a while back though (I think? It's where the creek meets the lake though so makes sense), it is definitely nice along there.

Not sure about the brewery... I do remember seeing a brewery while out riding recently, but I think it was way up on king road so obviously not the one you're thinking of) Out at 427/Eg is the big labbats or whatever it is too.

Jeremy or anyone else who has done the hairshirt- what's a nice 80km stretch along the lakeshore? I want to do a century along the lake this week but I'm thinking perhaps taking the GO out a ways before starting. Also, anyone want to join me? Not sure what day it'll be, but it will be during the daytime.

the brewery is rear the lakeshore on missisagua rd. forget the name... if you want to do a nice century i have a nice route archived that runs from mississagua to glen williams. much more interersting terrain that the service road from hamilton...

yes, i've done the hairshirt twice; it doesn't get interesting until you get past vineland.
