Hey any luck finding your bike?
The book sounds interesting as well.
Cheers

Contrary to what it says, it's not flip flop but fixed/fixed. Lockrings both sides, real track nuts. $25 shipped. Win.

They look identical to these hubs: http://www.speedgoat.com/product.asp...t=260&brand=70

Completely unrelated note: what happens when faulty software causes fatalities

Maybe I'm wrong, but I think a bowl of pho is probably cheaper than a beer and a crack rock. :P

whereabouts for ramen? haven't had much luck with find a good bowl in toronto.. $15 ramen at izakaya on the esplanade..HAAHAHAHAH i'm surprised that place is still in business.

somnambulant 10-16-06 09:34 AM

I don't know about a *good* bowl of ramen, but I was thinking Konichiwa (sp) in Baldwin Village.

Offhoff 10-16-06 09:36 AM

Not ramen but soba saturdays at Hiro remain the only reason to go to that place. The noodles are glorious. I wish we could get ramen like they have in Little Tokyo in NYC...heaven.

Also if anyone is interested in a 416 cell phone number I have one with the old city fido plan (unlimited incoming and outgoing calls anywhere in toronto for 60 a month everything in) its not going cheap but I'll give you guys first strike if anyones interested.

I think there would be, and just think of the opportunities for picking up feminist chicks! (Calling Rob) ;)

No luck with finding the bike yet, but Mike's offered some cool discounts on some bikes I might be interested in.

more reason to have pho after.

about hiro.. really underwhelmed with that place. i can't say i'd recommend it to anyone. the handmade soba is good if you don't mind spending about $30 to be a high class nooodle boy. it might not be as fancy but tokyo grill on yonge/wellesley has a similiar soba special for about $7. it used to be the last saturday of every month but this was years ago.
for better kaiseki: sakura, hashimoto or kaji is a better bang for the buck and experience. if you just want fish, sushi marche all the way!

and for bike content: is anyone thinking about getting their winter beaters ready? ready=dusting the cobwebs off.

somnambulant 10-16-06 10:38 AM

bahahahaha.. looked up "pho" on wikipedia (I'm a wikipedia addict, what can I say?) and it says:

"There was a restaurant in Vancover, BC Canada named "Pho Bich Nga.""

I remember seeing that while I was there in 2000 with my band and we all totally lost it. It was a catch phrase for several months afterwards.

Offhoff 10-16-06 11:19 AM

Myeh I've heard good and bad regarding Hiro. I tend to only go with people who are serious regulars there and get seriously preferential treatment, plus I'm rarely complaining. My experiences have been good to great but I can definately see that some others who dined there have had problems. Such is life in the restaurant business one person's perfection is another's nightmare. Anyways hope some of you are enjoying the ridiculous weather today. Damn 12 hour days...

I've been thinking about what to do for a winter beater. My suzue hubset is on it's last legs, so it will likely be relegated to beaterdom shortly. I don't have a beater frame, unfortunately. I do have a couple of mountain frames, but I dont' want to build up a fixed hub just for that. I sort of think fixed rather than SS would be kinda handy in the winter.

mines ready...same thing im riding now cept with fenders...hehehehehe;)

TRaffic Jammer 10-16-06 11:44 AM

I guess I should get my DIY fender materials ready. *watches the skies for snow*
are we gonna have any flippin' snow this year? Do I bother with my knobbies?

gokiburi 10-16-06 11:54 AM

so... no one went to pho? PHO BICH NGA!!!! yeah, i'm going to chuck the faux-race blades and getting full fenders for winter. snow ain't dat bad.. it's the -30C before windchill that kills me.

TRaffic Jammer 10-16-06 11:57 AM

I actually want some snow this year, I made fenders a couple years ago, total waste of time.

SamHouston 10-16-06 12:03 PM

It snowed a few days ago, but the wind & hail was far more impressive.

I left my winter beater by the curb when I moved recently, a rusty urbanite that I was never particularly fond of. I bought it out of need. I'd just paid off a new Devinci, had it a month & it got ganked. Had to get something cheap & on credit at Urbane to keep working. It was a great ride with those qualifiers, inexpensive, solid & available on credit. Fabulous beater for 5-6 years and 3 solid work winters someone else has it now, it was only by the curb for an hour or so. If I hadn't let it rust solid after jacking up my knee again I'dve kept it, but I'm lazy, I gotta have real love for a bike to treat it right.

...I bet it doesn't miss me[/wistful]

how did you lock it? the sheldon method???!! hahah.. just kidding sam ;) i use sheldon's method to lock up with my onguard-mini for short periods of time with no problems. knock on wood.

somnambulant 10-16-06 12:19 PM

I think that was a "gave it away" version of "left it by the curb", not a "stolen" version.

And no, nobody joined me for pho. It's alright though, I had William Gibson to keep me company.

this'll be the first time I ride thru snow w/out knobbies...

Shiznaz 10-16-06 12:48 PM

I usually use inverted tread tires for the winter. Works nice in snow and clear roads.

darkmother 10-16-06 01:49 PM

I only busted out the knobbies once last year. Usually, you don't really need them-it is way too soon now for sure. Slick tires are a good time.
