gokiburi 01-20-06 10:12 AM

wow.. the weather's screaming "GO OUT FOR A FACKING BIKE RIDE" today.

eyefloater 01-20-06 10:21 AM

You know what it's screaming to me?

"Haha, ****er! Your crankset's still busted!"

Stupid weather ... mocking me ... oh well, that will get sorted out soon enough.

i'll... actually be driving. (please don't stone me.)
unless someone wants to lend me a beater bike, or just a wheelset to ride on tomorrow :D
I'll be picking stuff up from urbane.

somnambulant 01-20-06 12:49 PM

I was thinking we could meet at 12:00 at uhh.. what's that cafe? Something moon? I can never remember the name. :P

darkmother 01-20-06 01:23 PM

Moonbean? That works for me, I need to hook myself up with some fresh beans for the week.

somnambulant 01-20-06 02:21 PM

0perator: you should come down! leave the bike at home!

sr20det 01-20-06 02:30 PM

darkmo, do you roast your own beans? a buddy of mine introduced me to home roasting recently.. it's pretty fun and yields a great batch of beans. for small batches, we used a pan roaster over a gas stove. he's got a pretty big roaster for large batches but says a regular hot air popcorn maker does a great job too. your kitchen'll smell great afterwards too!

I've wanted to do that for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Freshly roasted beans are the secret to good coffee. I'll have to troll the value villages for a hot air popper-sounds like that would be the easiest way.

somnambulant 01-20-06 03:48 PM

yeah, I've been wanting to do that for a while too. I need to get a new coffee maker as well. I've only been drinking espresso at home lately (I've got a couple different sizes of stovetop espresso makers), and my only other option is a Bodum french press. Makes good coffee, but it doesn't help if I need/want more than one cup. :)

I've heard good stuff about Dark City Coffee too, especially for freshness. But I've never bought any for myself.

Damnit.. I want to go riding in this weather! Not only am I stuck at work, but I'm having dinner with friends so I stupidly took the subway this morning. I wish I could even just dink around for an hour after work. Oh well!

Arghhh, the problem is bus service ends at 11 here.

:(

Edit: I can't read. I'll be down for Sat. Where are we going for lunch and are we biking..?

eyefloater 01-20-06 05:14 PM

Moonbean?! That's way to far! Pick some place closer to my apartment ... that place has got to be at least 30 feet away from where I live.

- eyefloater

PS. Okay, I'm cancelling tonight (gotta take care of the missus) and I'll see you all at the Moonbean tomorrow at noon.

i picked up a stovetop espresso maker for pretty cheap awhile ago but noticed the o-ring had dried out. does anyone know where to get replacement rings? i've checked department stores and the coffee supply shops at st.lawrence but nuthin'. you should get a larger bodum.. they come in a lot of sizes. i've got a single-serving press myself... i find that the filters aren't that great for espresso on the bodums. i think they're better suited to a coarser grind.
ok, so to fulfil the bike quota part of this post.... rode to kensington for lunch, picked up some empanadas ($2.50 each and they've got a HUGE selection).. then rode to cavern and it was closed! a sign on the door said they close early due to illness but will be open on saturday. holy smoke it was warm.

There's a stinkload of places in my area. Down around Oakwood and Davenportish.

somnambulant 01-20-06 08:47 PM

I have a crappy coffee grinder and generally grind my own regular coffee.. I buy ground espresso though because I can't get a consistent and fine grind with my little $20 doodad. :P

And as for a place to buy a new o-ring, I really like this one kitchen shop on Yonge Street (West Side), just North of Bloor (between Yorkville and Cumberland). The prices are great and the old guy who works there is super helpful. He actually mentioned to me about replacement o-rings when I bought my 3-shot one a couple weeks ago.

operator: I think we're going to get some buns somewhere, but I don't know where.. I'll leave that up to others as I'm a bun novice!

sr20det 01-20-06 09:05 PM

I can pick up some buns before I leave.
but they won't be steamy hot by the time I get downtown.

SHIZNIT!
ALERT:
damn, I woke up at 7 this morning to steal the fam. car.
I got it and after eating some mcdonalds.
I remembered I didn't have a map of the downtown area.
So... I took my chances to sneak back home to pickup the map.
To cut the story short, I woke up my parents and I'm grounded at home.
damn.
Its only 10 rite now.
I may still have time to try to sneak out and take the TTC.

Sorry guys.
Hope you have fun.
