I agree! was just a point...porsche sux...but true that... Id rather be on tha sooped up custom bike anyday over a stupid car that you can only drive @ speedlimit...and after all that cash it has a limiter in the engine...custom bike has no limiter :D

I'm looking at converting this MTB to SS.... and looking forward to my track/ss ride as well. A full road ride for the charity stuff I want to do I think will more than likely be a complete purchase...possibly a cross in order to take advantage of the well roundedness I think I'll get from a cross bike.

Shiznaz 10-10-06 10:34 AM

Have fun with the build TJ!!

My list of bike things to buy (mostly for the new double cross):

fenders: Preferably british racing green (BRG), failing that, Aluminum or stainless steel (those hammered Hojo fenders come to mind). I'll probably just settle for the boring SKS black ones. They work fine. I could spray paint them BRG.

Racks: Again, preferably BRG, but that will never happen, so black or stainless steel. I'm leaning towards the Tubus Logo and duo front and rear racks but they are stupid expensive. I may try to spray enamel the racks to match the bike, but the BRG on the soma double cross is so dark it looks black in all but sunlight.

portable pump: debating between full size frame pump and topeak road morph. Were I to get the frame pump I would disassemble it and paint the aluminum barrel BRG. The road morph is smaller and easier to use though.

Bottle cages: a couple of those cool looking classic italian ones.

Cross top levers: they seem to range from 30-100 dollars per set and have no noticable differences. I will get the cheapest and most readily available.

Chainstay protector: either e-tape or some cheap neoprene sleeve.

panniers: No idea whatsoever. I'll wait on these. MEC aquanot or Vaude pop to mind.

triple crankset: Need something dorkier for huge tours (probably shimano deore LX or XT)

mountain cassette: again, need something dorkier and more spaced out for touring and hurting myself in the don with Darkmother. (probably shimano deore LX or XT)

Seatpost bolt: I want something strong and fancy because my seatpost kept dropping when I was riding with darkmother at a rate of about an inch every 30 seconds. Very annoying. We swapped my seatpost bolt for darkmother's stem bolt but its only a temporary solution.

tires: I've got 32c knobbies and need something more suitable for road and touring. I'll keep an eye out.

Bike Jacket: My bike jacket is falling to pieces and I want one thats more durable and has pit zips

arm and knee warmers: My elbows and knees are cold

Booties: Aw yeah.

Hopefully it will all be available at the bike show.

Speed Limit?!! Tell that to all the clowns that do 100 k/hr on Queen past my shop. If everyone would stick to the speed limit, the anger/stress rate on my daily commutes would be greatly reduced.

I'm thinking
a) tron/star wars/daft punk
b) dinosaur/shark/fish
c) pac man/A-10 Warthog

Don't ask how I grouped these

A death star gunner would be the most similar shape to go for

Drifting in a Ferrari? Bite your tongue. A Ferrari is where you do 160kms on that curve to go from 427-S to the Gardner wooohooo

Shiznaz 10-10-06 11:10 AM

Uh, NO! Drifting makes you go faster and gives you extra kudos points so that you can raise up your skill level and race on the new reverse night version of Motor City USA.

duppy.conqueror 10-10-06 11:11 AM

hehehehehehehe

tongue bit...I know I know...but the exaggeration was effective...my wife and I were talking about that...she said its funny that this is the crap kids are being sold on...kids used to just want a nice bicycle or sk8 board....now its cars and body kits and stereos that shake the continent for them...weird...

The crazy part is is that parents ARE getting their kids this stuff. Those that aren't, aren't seemingly questioning how Johnny managed to put an 7K body kits on his car. I know McDonald's doesn't pay THAT well. If you a kid working and savin for all this stuff....word....hat's off, how the hell do you doit.

On an unrelated note to the Tokyo drifting...

FUN!!!!

Duppy.... Man, those kids got nothin', what the hell they pimpin'?
There's a speed shop in Woodbridge, near where I used to work, I got some 16v engine bits from him. He tells me this story about this almost complete car in his garage. Dad bought Son a honda DX, nothing special..... Boy spends the old man's money on.....7k kit, as well as full race up on the engine-Incl. NOS. nuts like 12-14K extra on the car.

I'm watching the news a few weeks later and they run a story about mods and street racers.
I see the car and the kid getting busted, ON CAMERA!!!!!
His father apparently sees it on TV as well then, just about beats his son to the stone age. Sells the car, buys his kid a MTB. hahahahahaha

Offhoff 10-10-06 11:35 AM

Seeking advice on full-fingered riding gloves, would like to spend less then 50 bones....

TRaffic Jammer 10-10-06 11:39 AM

Offhoff...cool...cold....coldest?

Hey anyone know who retails the Troy Lee Design stuff, I saw a few things I wanna look at.

I just got some thin X country ski gloves from MEC. 25 bucks, snot rag on the backs, comfy. I like em.

Offhoff 10-10-06 11:55 AM

When I was in school my girl had a sick and twisted S4, more fun then a car should be. That was one of the more fun street cars I ever drove. I never understood the reasoning though the insurance alone on it must have been astronomical, and the backseat was almost as uncomfortable as the back of a volkswagen...

Anyways back onto the topic of gloves I'd like something that will get me to -5 or -10 I don't think I'm going to do a full winter of biking on account of not wanting to fux0r my miche hubs. Though I am in the market for a cheap fixed/free or even just a freewheel that I could throw on and ride through the winter.

Gloves first, then bag god I need a new mess bag so badly

TRaffic Jammer 10-10-06 01:50 PM

Well then, why not check out the BIKE SHOW!!!!!!!!
As of 5:30 ish this evening Cavern Cycle will have up to 8 passes that can be given away at his discretion. Yes, the wiggly fingered secret BF handshake is in effect. That is all.

Shiznaz 10-10-06 01:54 PM

I'm so there.

TRaffic Jammer 10-10-06 02:02 PM

I just noticed on the ticket it is now called the Direct Energy Centre (formerly The National Trade Centre).
If you can't cut it on a National Trade Level, SELL the LOGO SPOT!!!

Offhoff 10-10-06 02:05 PM

If I wasn't so damn poor

:(
