Living with bears over the winter when a cross country ski breaks.

I personally like dragging myself and bike up the side of a ravine with broken, grinding, crunching ribs. That was a good time.

If your going that deep and dont have simple, basic tools, yer own fault for not being prepared. My camelback, that I always take mtn biking, is a magical combination of snacky and repairy goodness. In the city you are never that far from help.

STEEKER 10-24-06 08:52 AM

ohhhhhhhhhh DUDE! lol that sounds worse than when I smashed apart my collar bone and nose

I lost my repair kit after a tumble

yes indeedy that would suck. i would think that you have a link or two left over from when you shorten a new chain to put on your bike, throw that in your tool kit and a cheap chain tool and your off. that said i don't carry one around when i'm riding in the city; it's easier to show up at keith's with food/beer and borrow one of his!
out in the country i'm super paranoid (don't know about the rest of you) so i end up carrying just about everything, even a spare tire (which these days is around my waist).

Warm....

Hey who likes funky hardware? Pioneer SCSI cd-rom changer 6 disk. DRM-604X DualSCSI interface.

Offhoff 10-24-06 10:12 AM

You know there are some very good technical reasons why you have to sacrifice a goat every full moon with a silver knife in order for you SCSI chain to work.

Still one of my favourite lines.

Did you get a chance to ride any of the bikes there? Sweet rides. Nice parts too. Replaced my seatpost for about $2 I think. Of course it was so crappy it bent after about 6 weeks of riding, but still only had to buy 4 of them.

I can't tell weather this was the primary failure, because the pin on the link had been pulled out of it's press fit as well. I suspect the pin came out first, and then the plate snapped in bending. Anyway, I remember I posted a few months ago about never having a problem with these links....well, now I have.

Anyway, skating your bike for 10 km like a scooter is actually easier than I thought it would be, but people look at you funny.

I never could quite understand masterlinks.
I never used one for that fact.
Thus I never had a busted chain. :)

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

1/8 ftw

thanks Keith....you ROCK DUDE!!!!
Those tyres is nice, when I rode the pebbles near my office just below Lakeshore the front was totally grabbbin' . These smoke!

So whose up for a bar ride on friday night? Maybe 9:30ish downtown and work back up or vis-versa? Suggestions welcome

Shiznaz 10-24-06 12:47 PM

Its gonna be the halloween CM on friday. I'm sure there will be festivities to be had afterwards, as well as the hundreds of halloween parties that are bound to go down in the city (I know of 4 so far).

I'm sorry to say that the ETA for our new MEC Hydrocycle Men's Cycling Jacket (5010-578, $115.00) has been pushed back to January 2007, for reasons that are described in the following product note:

06.08.23: This program will be delayed due to major issues with the reflective tape. We discovered prior to production beginning that the 3M reflective tape that we sourced for this garment will not adhere to DWR-coated fabrics, such as this. We sourced another option, NyloLite, which has been successfully tested, and we will be moving ahead with this material. However, this issue has seriously delayed production, as we missed the original production window with our supplier, who is fully booked. We are awaiting confirmation from Production, but at this point in time, we expect to receive our first order in early December."

The current ETA for the Hydrocycle is now January 5/07. Unfortunately, this is beyond the 30-day limit that we require for backorders, so cannot be ordered at this time.

I'm sorry for any disappointment that this may cause you. Our MEC Whoosh Men's Cycling Jacket (5007-952, $175.00) is similar to the Hydrocycle, but uses the 3-ply Dermizax EV membrane, which is more breathable (and more expensive) than the Hydrocycle's Entrant coating, and has a zip-up tail flap, which allows the Whoosh to be worn as a hiking or urban jacket, increasing its versatility. If you would accept it as an alternative, the Whoosh is available immediately, and can be seen and ordered on the following site:

I ended up with the ever-popular SuperMicroft jacket in black because I couldn't wait until winter was half over to have a proper jacket.

Offhoff 10-24-06 04:27 PM

I wish january was halfway through winter ugh...

welcome to the commuter jacket club. those are pretty useful jackets; good as long it's not full on pouring. good even in the snow.

That's sounds so painful ... I'm actually in awe.

One of my best "raw blinding pain" moments happened when a resident had to rearrange my intestines (from the outside) after a post-abdominal surgery mishap. Got an assload of demoral after that one though.

The topper has to be the time a surgeon literally tore open a healing incision in my pelvis (about 5" deep) because it was closing up too quickly and they were worried about infection. Good times, good times.

I've never broken anything "doing stuff," but damned if I don't hate hospitals.

jeremywhitehorn 10-24-06 10:09 PM

i was browsing the fixed gear gallery tonight and i saw a Pake that looked so familiar so i looked at the submitter's name and i'm thinking "who in the hell is mike clark? someone must have bought eyefloater's bike". i'm telling you, these nicknames are bred in the bone!

Yeah, I've had 4 or 5 of those over the years. Really versatile. I wish they would make the cut a little more form fitting though, it catches too much wind for a cycling specific jacket.
