i've always thought that about most MEC stuff: it fits a bit like a hefty bag. i have one of their wool jersey/sweaters and the cut i really loose in the chest but skin tight in the arms? who do they cut their stuff for, humpty dumpty?

That sounds most unpleasant. How exactly does someone "rearrange" your intestines from the outside? I'm kind of scared to ask, because I think I know.


Ok, that is way beyond nasty. I hate hospitals-the whole set up is not really designed to allow you to recover. I spent 3 weeks in Sunnybrook after a nasty head hits pavement kind of event, and it was not an experience I'd care to repeat. The technical care (surgery etc) was excellent, but they need to think more about the psychological side of recovery.

Speaking of which, I dropped by the new LA Carrera location yesterday after work. It's super nice. Albert was showing me how he's going to have a patio out back that anyone can just ride right up to, and there's a french door leading into the mechanic area. Very swank. I love the wrought iron work in the front window. Too bad I'm out of town Saturday/Sunday or I'd swing by the opening party.

ps. switching back to narrowish drops after riding my silly cruiser bars for a while feels really really awkward.

The reason I didn't get the whoosh (apart from the high price and loud colours) was that it felt like I was wearing a sail on me. I could have fit 2 of my torsos inside that box. I may as well wear my ski jacket at that point.

The supermicroft is really the only one that came halfway close to fitting my tall skinny self. I even tried on all the women's models just in case the cut was better for me.

That would be the semi-pear shaped computer office user they are selling to. If they cut for only fit people, they'd be out of business in a season I think. Gotta leave room for a gut....

Exactly. If you want stuff more fitted, it's as simple as buying a different brand. :) That's the exact issue I have with one of my MEC cycling jackets actually. It's warm and functional, but it's definitely shaped for a gut. I get severe jacket *****/belly when I'm wearing it.. :P

My goretex one fits great however, but that might explain why they don't make it anymore (if you use TJ's logic).

The problem with other company's bike jackets is that they are too expensive, not heavy-duty enough or I can't try them on. And they are hideous...

At least MEC is somewhat focused on commuter functionality, and not just on racer types who want a glorified wind breaker, and total noobs who just want a a crappy ski jacket for on the bike.

indeed.. and the partay is this Saturday, Oct 28. It's worth stopping by just to check out the space. Also, they've apparently ordered an espresso machine from Italy. I warned them that while they're happy I was there yesterday, they may be sick of seeing me once the espresso machine goes in. :P

Oh, and the Mercx in the display case is pretty fancy pants also. :)

i don't think that's the only reason you wear women's clothes...

despite the odd fit issues, i do appreciate that the microft jacket comes in tall sizes...

another reason i dislike the suburbs: getting yelled at from a car in oakville. "get a car!" they said. what? it looked like they were driving mom's minivan...
